  • Good price

  • What’s the best price these have ever been… realistically not the lucky one or two eBay shifty ones…

    • +3

this is very good for a known seller. (VideoPro are very trustworthy).
You can get them cheaper (I got a pair for ~$325 the other week, from someone who got them dropshipped from Bose). But for under $350, it's a great deal.

They are good, but the only disappointment is the noise cancellation of voices isn't great, it's more noise dampening. e.g. on a plane, the plane noise is gone, people talking, kids screaming/shouting/etc is softened, but still noticeable. I could hear the flight crew asking others in front what they wanted from the menu, whist listening to a podcast.

      • +10

Building on this comment: the ANC cant cancel voices because a person's voice is a varying wavelength of which the headphones can't quickly create a wavelength of opposite magnitude to cancel it out. This is in comparison to something like a plane engine or air conditioner where the noise is constant - and the headphones can cancel it out. Something I wish i knew before i bought these headphones, they are still a great buy for this price.

        • +2

This is how all active noise cancellation technology works.

The only way to avoid all noise is with passive noise cancellation.

Some of those huge ear-muffs they use on the tarmac would probably do it.

These Bose have the best active noise cancellation of any headphones on the market.

        • +1

          @MeateaW:

Bose QC35ii are a combination of great passive and active noise cancelling.

I love my pair, everyone in the family has a pair.

        • @Drew22:

I love my pair, everyone in the family has a pair.

I see what you did there. Giggity

      • +2

I will also comment on this. You want to cancel out the noise you don't want to hear like an engine. If you don't want to hear anything, get earmuffs

        https://www.seton.net.au/peltor-deluxe-earmuffs-a41138.html

Just another tip. People use ANC headphones without listening to anything to prevent damage to ears when they are travelling on buses daily etc…

        • Yes it was suggested that these + in ear earphones are the best of both worlds. I wonder if the cordless airbuds or whatever those apple ones are work inside the ear muffs?

        • Doesn't anc just blast the inverse of the noise it's cancling? So it's just fighting fire with fire, cancling out rather than blocking noise and preserving hearing.

        • @TheOneWhoGotAway: Half right… it does cancel out the ambient noise effectively reducing the decibels you hear, which helps preserve hearing.

      • I use a white noise soundtrack on my flights. Good for sleeping

      • +2

"The only disappointment is that it doesn't do something it's not supposed to".

Sorry, that's how that comment came across. ANC cancels out consistent noise like an engine or air conditioning, not voices.

        • +4

Thats nice you knew that, but I'm guessing most people don't. Its not like it's written on the box. And its been a comment from most people who've tried mine on.

It's meant to be a heads up comment, sorry you didn't take it as such and hope you're day gets better :-)

        • @supabrudda: Your comment reads like "these don't do ANC as well as other headphones" - ie it could mislead. That's why you're being corrected.

        • @fredblogs: Not sure how you can construe that. I don't mention ANC at all, until this thread I've not known what ANC is.

Most people would expect Noise cancelling headphones to cancel most if not all noise, because that what the name implies. These are my first noise cancelling headphones and I'm disappointed that noise from people/kids/etc, are sort of dampened rather then cancelling it. Going by the comments here obviously ANC don't cancel voices very well. I'll bet the vast majority of people who buy noise cancelling headphones for the first time are also surprised.

Good for you if you already knew this, but as I said most people who've tried mine have expressed surprise that you can still hear people talking/kids screaming/whineing, that's a sample of 20+ people aged from 10-75yo. So again my comments are for people like me who expects Noise Cancelling Headphones to cancel all noise, not just just some.

        • @supabrudda: then one could argue that if you are spending $300+ on a pair of headphones that they do their research about said product before hand. Not like the bose and sony anc headphones lack reviews online. Plenty out there.

          just my 2 cents.

        • @xoom: i agree. Hopefully my comments aid someone's research in the future. They're great headphone, as I said, but IMHO its helpful to know that these (and I assume others) don't cancel out voices & screams, just dampen them. If I'd known that before I purchased, I wouldn't have been disappointed by it. I'm puzzled why stating this is an issue. I'm not the only one who believed noise cancelling meant noise cancelling across all noise.

I didn't realise Bose had Apple/MS Surface Pro type fanboys where any hint of criticism must be howled down loudly and immediately.

      • For some reason, my Sony 1000XM2 also cancels voices, probably my imagination

      • In audio editing terms you would say the noise cancellation works for the sustains and not the transients (the abrupt start of a new sound, like a drum being wacked). Noise is a major problem in the modern world with so many people living so close together, plus all the noisy machinery (I have hyperacusis; it's the pits except late at night when 'normals' are asleep and the world is hushed.

    • +1

This is very good for guaranteed genuine stock. The best ever price from a local retailer of comparable size was $325 from Amazon. I wouldn't wait longer to get these - you will get an extra $20 in use from them in the time you wait for the price to drop further.

    • Got a pair during the 20% off eBay US sale (AU stock) for $327 or $324 after cash back

  • +4

Thats if the price doesnt change by 10am..

    • +1

This is their normal price during these sales, price won't go up.

  • -2

Bleh It’s still outside if 60 day TRS…

    • +3

Just check in early and wait in the terminal….

  • uggh I am so torn as to if I should buy these or not - Have a two month Europe trip coming up but buying these will essentially render my ATH-M50's useless which is annoying :P

  • +4

These are much better and beat the bose in everyway
    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/SONY-WH1000XM2B-Flagship-Wireles…

and with the 20% discount using the codeword proxy youll get them for $279.20

    • You're only half right… I have both and the Sony headphones sound much better for audio. Noise-cancellation is still a win for Bose.

      • +2

I've tried the Bose QC35 on flights before and the noise cancellation gets uncomfortable as the altitude changes.

Sony is the only one that automatically adjusts the headphones for changes in atmospheric pressure so I could wear them throughout whole flights without taking them off. Switched to the Sony and haven't looked back since.

        • Didn't have that issue at all flying to India last year.

    • +4

      This is refurbished though?

      • +2

Not sure why you were negged. Yes, Sony seems refurbished.

      • They are. I bought these a couple weeks back and they basically feel and look brand new. The only thing wrong was the box was scuffed up.

I wouldn't recommend if they were crap.

      • Sony has been known to mark scuffed boxes as 'refurbished' when the actual unit is still brand new. Even so you can still return it if you do receive a used unit.

      • Plus if it refurbished by manufacturer is usually check by an actual person.

    • this is perfect actually. thanks!

    • The 4 left went quickly, been waiting for a good price on these! Thanks for the heads up.

      • I also got 1 of the 4.. 10:00:01 i was applying code and clicked checkout.. refreshed after checkout and all gone. Happy days :)

        • you won't be disappointed. These headphones rock!

  • Good price.Thanks op

  • -1

I'm not sure this price is good enough for me to sign up ebay plus. Ebay needs to do better than this.

    • +1

      1 month free

  • -1

    price jacked!

    edit: no it's not..

  • I'm thinking of these, but how do the in-ear NC Bose headphones compare, specifically for flying?

  • +1

Finally bit the bullet on a pair, thanks OP

  • Just bought mine for 345 :)

  • Finally jumped on board. Bought one for me and one for missus for an upcoming trip. She can have the silver!

  • Just be warned that due to the size you can’t use a neck pillow and the headphones at the same time.

    • +1

I used both successfully on my last trip, didn't have any comfort issues whatsoever.

      • You must have a shorter pillow than me :) I’ll try an inflatable one next time!

        • Try the MUJI one.

  • Thanks for the deal.. finally bit the bullet :)

  • Pairs well with 2.5% cashback

  • Anyone else getting "This code can't be applied to your order." msg as I did?

    • +1

Is your eBay account registered to Australia?

      • There could be the reason! I changed to US during the US promotions, thanks for reminding!

  • Best price I have seen on OzB!

    Don't sleep on this people.

Best item I bought last year handsdown, I just love them.

  • Thanks for the find.

  • Great deal. But I wonder if I can wait another few months until Christmas …will I have a better deal? How about last year anyone?

  • which seller out of the two will send the airline adaptor?

    • Neither because Bose doesn't include it in the new QC35 II. It was included in the old model of QC35. You can get generic airline audio adapter for a few bucks but I don't know how good the quality it is. I've an old noise cancelling headphone from panasonic and the airline audio adapter looks exactly the same as those generic ones.

Thanks @TightArse for the code and @doweyy for replying my posts on the original ozbargain thread. I didn't check which of the two sellers have a better reputation. I just randomly picked one seller to buy from, which is instyle hifi. I hope that there isn't any drama. instyle hifi has certainly increased the price from $415 as i was tempted to buy it last weekend with the 10% code but missed the deadline. Overall, 25% is still a better deal than the 10% code despite the price hike.

I quite like the Sony because it seems to mask out the talking noise when i tested it at JBHifi. This could also due to the music that's being played which is bass heavy. I also like the Sennheiser PXC550. I chose Bose because i am old fashion. I am worried that any touch feature might break easily than physical buttons.

    • Neither will.

Qc35 version 2 dont come with airline adaptors. If you need one… You have to buy it.

  • Can't decide buying this or QC30. Any advice? I mostly use them on buses.

    • It is a personal preference. Do you like in ear or over the ear? I prefer in ear because it is less bulky. I grab a pair of QC 35 because QC 30 doesn't have plug in option. I mainly use NC headphone on flights. If i buy QC30, i will have to use a BT emitting dongle for in flight entertainment. I don't know how well the dongle for QC 30.

How are people getting $345 on this? It's coming up with $368 after PROXY. Price Jack?

    • +1

Plus member discount is 25% off, you're seeing the normal 20% off. You can get a free trial to eBay Plus to trigger the additional discount.

    • -1

      $460 by 25% off is $368.

      • Derp. $460 / 1.25 is $368. This is clearly not how to work out 25% off. :/ My bad.

This deal is outstanding, even more so with the latest price drop down to $329.25 for ebay plus members!! Thanks OP.

  • +1

Too good to pass up. Thanks op nabbed a pair

  • Are these good as a gaming headset?

  • +1

Thanks OP, purchased for my father in law. We all put in and he will be rapt !

Been debating between this and the Sony WH1000xm2, and finally purchased the Bose QC35 ii. Went to JB HI-FI today and the salesman was super enthusiastic about both but unfortunately they didn't have the sony's available for demo. From the info i've gathered this is what most seem to say in favour of each.

    Bose:
    - Buttons (can be good or bad)
    - Iconic looks and less bulky (might be opinion)
    - Extremely comfortable

    Sony
    - Touch controls (can be good or bad)
    - Higher sound quality
    - Stronger noise isolation
    - Larger battery life

Maybe if I'd tried the Wh1000x and I felt the sound quality absolutely killed the bose my decision might have been different, but as I've come to understand, headphone comfort is such a valuable and underrated aspect to these products and I found with my current headphones, the Monster NPulse, even though they sounded great, i just couldnt wait to get them off after a 40 minute session.

    • I got to try Bose and Sony. They didn’t have Sennheiser on display. I immediately noticed better noise reduction with the Sony at JB Hi-Fi. I went back and forward when someone was talking. Sony really stood out for masking the conversation, although it could also due to the strong bass music being played on the Sony. When I was at the airport trying Bose and Sennheiser. Sennheiser stood out as comfort and nicer sound. I was tossing out between the 3. From the review, it seems to suggest that I won’t regret on any one of these. Bought the Bose on this sale because I prefer physical buttons. Hope we all enjoy it. :)

  • I cannot believe that instyle hifi drops the price during the sale period (after they raised it the day before the 25% off sale). $439 rather than $460! Limit one per customer. A bit annoyed……

    • Wow you're kidding! You could order the cheaper one and ask them to cancel the more expensive order, or if they continue, you could return it under eBay plus, that's a substantial difference.

I'm going to update the pricing in the title.

      • They have shipped mine out…… :(

        • That's terrible :( The second option is always there if you want to deal with the hassle over $16..

        • @doweyy: Oh well…..before the 25% sale, they have it for $415 with 10% coupon. I see the final price being good after 25% discount wit $460. I just cant believe that they would drop it during the sale period. Amazon has it for $415 still. who knows…..if they would have the 25% off prime day sale. That would make it even cheaper. Anyway, probably not worht the hassle over $16. I don't see them having the ebay plus logo on their site. Are they ebayplus affiliate?

        • @koala9:

Trust me I can't believe it either, I've never seen a significant drop on a product that popular during a sale like this.. I'm not sure what Amazon will do, I heard they'll have a sale on them but it's unclear at what price.

And nevermind about that, I didn't realise they weren't part of eBay plus!

Ahh well, enjoy the headphones anyway, they're awesome :)

        • @doweyy:

It is a bit strange that they get to be on the ebay plus sale but not affiliated? Yes, I should stop looking at prices. But we all like ozbargain, right? I just happened to check my item shipping info on the ebay site……

        • @koala9:

Yeah I guess the eBay plus part is just eBay's footing on the bill for the extra 5% and the stores themselves don't really change.. I completely agree, and it's really frustrating.. I'm sure you'll pick up a killer bargain in the future to compensate!

      • Anyone manage to successfully cancel/request to cancel their more expensive order and purchase again at the lower price?

I purchased mine last Thursday and haven't received any shipping info. Contacted the seller this morning to cancel my order so I can re-order, but not sure the likelihood of them doing this for me lol.

EDIT - Instyle Hifi literally just cancelled my order so can repurchase lol. Think I'm lucky that my item wasn't yet shipped!

  • would have preferred silver

  • Alteady have QC35 Silver, cant resist and bougjt another :(

    • I have now 2 blacks… Anyone want to swap with silver? New in box.

  • what are the odds of having jb to price match?

    • Pretty low I'd say. A mate went into the Bris CBD to price match. Best they could do was $450 lol.

  • +1

I can’t understand why there is no competition in this segment after all these years.. surely there is a company that can compete with Bose

    • Sony are competing with their 1000XM2, but I guess the Bose name is just really strong so it's hard to compete when they've been such a strong company in the market for so long.

  • someone knew about the amazon promo yesterday already

  • So…with Ebay Plus I can return this for free right? :P The Amazon one has the silver and might just grab one off them with the 7.5% cashback. Sorry OP.

    • If you bought it from videopro, then yes. With instyle hifi, then no as they aren't ebay plus affiliated. :(

  • Can someone who purchased from InStyle verify they’ve received their headphones? I purchased one and they never got delivered, InStyle saying nothing they can do apart from refunding me through eBay but will not honour the sale price again…

    • +1

Yes I did. Not sure what’s worse…I received it but was before they dropped the price to match amazon prime day during the same sale period.

      • Thanks! Same here. Bought on the first hour of the sale! Now I just want the headphones at the price I paid for it. Hope you’re enjoying them!

        • +1

There might be sale again. eBay does that quite often these days. Didn’t take advantage being a prime member as I couldn’t cancel and go with te lower price. Someone got lucky and cancelled it before they shipped. Anyway, it is still a good price for the sale so better luck for me next time. As for bose, yes, I enjoy it except it is too big for my head. I apparently have a very small head! It explains why I feel a better fit and comfortable with Sennheiser 450. It is smaller than bose. Bose still works but it just slides down if I tilt my head.
