  • With 0.75 Qantas Points for every $1 spent on eligible purchases, i guess this has to be the highest FF point earning for a non-Amex card?

    • No, the NAB Signature VISA has $1 for 1 Qantas point up to $5000 per statement

      • ANZ black is 1 for 1 up to $7500 in a statement period, too.

      • But Westpac Black is unlimited 0.75 points per $1, not just $5k or $7.5k

        • Yep, aware of that, but it's in reply to a question about whether it's the highest earning non-AMEX card, which it isn't, but it may be the highest earning uncapped non-AMEX card :)

        • @trotsky:

          https://www.qantasmoney.com/credit-cards

Qantas Premier Platinum is 1 point per $ up till $10,000 per statement.

        • @trotsky:
Sorry i was not very clear in my question. I meant to ask what is the highest earning FFP non-amex card uncapped?
I spend 20k per month so need to find the best card out there. Thanks

        • @Spizz: HEAPs of exclusions though. Lucky to get 0.5 for an average month spend

  • Have scoured the T&C's but wonder if someone in the know could clarify a couple of points for me please?

    1. I've read elsewhere previously that these two cards actually link to a single account. Is that still the case or are they distinct from one another with separate balances and separate monthly payments to each?

    2. Has anybody successfully added an additional cardholder to both cards as part of the initial application and without any fee?

    3. GetCreditScore has also been unable to give me my score since I moved address a couple of months ago and I'm concerned this might result in a declined application. Anyone been in a similar situation and had an application approved regardless?

    • There is no fee for adding a card holder.

I added additional card holder after you get the main card, done via internet banking.

Both cards link towards your total credit limit approval

    • I want to know the answer to question 1 too. Is spending on either card tallied against a single account? Or is the MC separate from the AMEX account i.e. two monthly statements to read and pay??

      • +1

I've now got the cards and can confirm they are completely separate accounts with separate institutions. Dealing with Amex is ten times easier than Westpac too.

  • Is paying my rates bill considered an 'ineligible' purchase, therefore not considered part of the $3000 spend for the bonus points ?

    • I want to know too.
I have asked before but no one answered.

      • I paid rates with the above card and it’s definitely counted towards the $3000 min spend. It still counts as an transaction.

        • I'm not sure that would even help them. Different councils, different states, different statement entries. It's very possible some would be detected as Government spend and some not. They are going to have to try a payment first before they will know for certain.

        • @trotsky:
so how would you know whether it do counted towards the $3000 min spend?
is there anyway of checking when do we reach the $3000 spend for mastercard and $3000 for amex for the bonus points?

    • +3

Generally, paying via BPay is not counted towards points. There's no Visa/Mastercard/Amex interchange fee from the merchant to the issuing bank to pay for the points.
Paying direct on the billers website as an online e-commerce purchase is counted for points (bank receives interchange fee).

      • thank you. that's clear..
as long as I pay using the biller website then it is counted toward the $3000 is very good.

    • Eligible purchases do not include fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, BPAY, BPAY equivalent transaction, refunds and balance transfers debited from the card account

  • +1

Hi. I called westpac and they said no minimum income? Can't find it in website as well. May i know where the 75000 coming from? Thanks

    • +1

Hi andri77, did you find out if less than 75k income would get you approve for this card?

  • The link says the offer expires 5 September 2018 however the link at https://www.finder.com.au/american-express-westpac-altitude-… says offer ends 23 October 2018 and the minimum income is $65k.

    • The link from finder say you need to pay annual fee for both cards

  • Does getting the bundled Amex with this deal reset your 18month clock with Amex Australia for their points bonuses?

  • +2

Thanks OP! I was instantly approved for this Westpac bundle offer - Mastercard was approved online, while AMEX I had to call up for final verification…

Strange, definitely over the 75k income requirement but I was denied the ANZ offer (which I had prefered). Might be something up with my credit rating.

Also, this link is quite handy for comparing the QFF point promotions amongst the big banks:
    https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/earning-points/c…

    • interesting, i was aslo decline by ANZ, but looking on my online credit score, looks like i asked for 40k limit on my card (forgot to change). ha, no wonder i was declined

    • I got decline by ANZ ( over the income requirement ) but got accepted by AMEX

bit cautious with ANZ these days

  • not sure if we should apply for the black card which has a 15 k limit which may be harder to get approved for 2 cards or the platinum which has a lower 6k minimum limit which should be easier to get approved. if one applies for the black card offer and doesn't qualify will they offer and issue the platinum card automatically or just decline the application thus taking a credit entry hit.?

  • Has anyone who got approved the card got their 80k and 40k points yet? If yes, did you have to chase them up to get your points?

    • No not yet. The points come after you have spent $3,000 on eligible purchases with the credit cards within 90 days of card approval. And usually the points come when the next statement is issued following you reaching the minimum spend. I have had my card for a couple of weeks now and still a way to go until I have spent $3000 on each card.

  • Our car rego renewal is coming up, and I would like to pay it on one of these cards, if it will count as an "eligible purchase" towards the minimum spend amount.

I've searched through the T&Cs, and in the "Altitude_Rewards_Terms_and_1.pdf" file I can see an exclusion for government charges, but it's kind of confusing as there's actually 2 cards, and the Amex-specific list of exclusions is far shorter, and doesn't mention government charges.

Am I right in saying that car registration renewal would count towards the minimum spend on the Amex card, but not count towards the minimum spend on the Mastercard?

    • I'd like to know this as well.

    • +1

I spoke with AmEx regarding whether council rates were applicable.

They said anything will count towards the minimum spend as long as it's not annual fee charge, interest charges or anything related to charges from the card itself.

    • i paid my rego on this card and have reached the $3k+ spend in my first month, have paid that off, but still haven't received the bonus points.
I'll give it another month and if i dont get the points on my next statement i'll give them a call.

  • I was denied a $3000 coles MasterCard last month which I wanted to use for online groceries. I was denied the credit card for some unknown reason but was fully approved for this $18000 combo within 3 hours. I did allow the income verification to look into my bank account so probably gained a sufficient level of authenticity.

…no idea what factors into the credit process as I had no black marks.

Was the $75k income requirement before or after tax?

    • +2

That's why there's a royal commission on the banks

  • I was about to apply for my partner, be careful if you pick the link from the westpac website the mastercard is not free, lucky I realised that so about to apply with the right link.

  • Does anyone know if paying for rent via direct debit (not bpay) goes towards required spend

  • Enjoy two complimentary passes each year to the American Express Airport Lounge at either Sydney or Melbourne International Airports.

Will a physical card be sent,do i need to apply for it? Or it is like ANZ Black just show the Amex card at the lounge in order to get in?

  • The website also says this

^Bonus points promotion: The respective bonus points promotion is available when you apply and are approved for a new Altitude Black card between 9th August 2018 and 27th November 2018 and spend the minimum amount of $3,000 on eligible purchases on an Altitude Black card within 90 days from card approval in one or more transactions.

Does this mean people like me who saw the deal and have got the card before 9th Aug are not eligible for Qantas points :(

    • Yeah I applied on the 8th! What's this about?

      • Not sure whether we would be eligible for the 80K Qantas points.

        • +1

Actually the terms are different if you try from the Qantas cards page. So I think we're fine. Must be different deals on.

        • @911r:
          hope so !!

        • +1

@911r: if you click on the above link in the deal, the details have not changed and you will get the points as long as you apply between 16th July and 5th September.

    • From the website the offer changed now and it's not free anymore

      • Where are you reading this information? If you click the link above in the deal, the details say the annual fee is waived for the first year for both cards.

        • if you don't go via the link but from the westpac website it's different, see my comment above :)

        • @Gooddeal21:

Yes, that's because the link provided in this deal has a special promo code attached.

        • Applied with the QBX12 link provided through here, but still the financial table for the Mastercard listed annual fee for the first year $250 + $50 for Qantas rewards.

Gave them a buzz, after a bit of chat and some waiting, customer service says that while the promo offered no card fee for the first year, the $50 Qantas fee will stick. Said he was unable to do anything further but recommended going into a branch with a print out of the promo and discuss with them in branch.

So I guess that's what I'll be doing tomorrow.

        • +2

@letters numbers: Strange, if you applied through the link above then there should not be any fees. You might find that you are not charged the fee. Might be good to wait until you get your first credit card statement and complain then if necessary. I received my first statement today and the annual fee and Qantas rewards program fee are not listed.

        • @Rodo: I was fairly confident followed the link from here originally but may have exited out halfway, resumed, lost the code halfway, not sure.

Either way, branch is open today so we’ll find out soon!

        • @letters numbers:

Same here, charged $250 + $50 on first statement. When applying I took a screenshot of the Westpac page stating zero fees for first year for both card and Qantas Rewards, so will be requesting a refund of both fees.

        • @glennp: how did you go with this?

Edit, saw your post below, never mind!

  • Does anyone know if this offer is like the ANZ deal and is always offered so you can get the points, churn and reapply after 12 months?

Trying to work out if I should keep the cards after I get the points or cancel and get again next year

    Cheers

  • Hi all,

Previously I had the Wespac Mastercard and Amex bundle and cancel in 2016.
Since then I have an Amex Qantas which is due September 2017 ( not going to renew )

WOuld I still be eligble for both the mastercard and amex?

I chatted with amex live chat, and the lady said I will still be eligible for the bonus 40k as long I meet the spending criteria.

Anyone knows about the westpac mastercard side instead? if there is a waiting period or such?
    thanks

    • Please kindly refer to the T&Cs in the link provided in the original post.

You can also read through the 3 pages worth of comments and i guarantee you will find your answer.

Or did prefer someone to spoon feed you the answer?

      • No. I don't expect that,
But whoever is in similar situation that would be helpful, as below is a good example, different agent or representative provides different information and tends to contradict each other.

  • +1

I called WEstpac and amex a few times today as I wanted to make sure everything was going well cause I worry about this shit. Well Westpac lady one told me qantas $50 fee isn't free for first year. 2nd lady said its not showing ill make a note. Looks like I have to dispute later. Chatted with amex who stated annual fee is not free for first year and asked me to provide evidence. I told him to get stuffed and do his job better…quite angry as I gave him link and everything. So I'll also have to dispute this.

    • Both Westpac and Amex have charged me the annual fee and the $50 Qantas fee, I have now spent two and a half hours trying to get the fees refunded. Amex reckons Westpac sent them the June code special rather than the July special. This is the last time I do any banking with Westpac

  • +1

Entered QFF number in application but not linked to Westpac card. Strangely, Amex did link QFF to their card. Charged $250 card fee and $50 Qantas Rewards fee on first statement and told to take evidence of zero year one fees to a branch as Westpac are unable to receive via email. Also, after booking QF airfare learnt that Westpac require a separate registration prior to purchase to receive lounge passes. Don't really care as I am already gold, but quickly losing patience with Westpac.

    • +2

Where can you check if it's linked?

      • I would also like to know if you have time to share, thanks:)!

        • Ended up calling them to check, they confirmed it was.

  • Received both my cards today.

If I don't have an online banking account with Westpac, how do I see my transactions online?

AMEX was quick and easy to link up to the online system.

    • You need to ring them, and they will issue you with the basics to then register for internet banking. Yes you're right, normally this is no problem for those with a Westpac bank account.

Also, if you've ever had a Westpac account, and therefore have had a Westpac ID number, then that is going to be your number. Once you use Westpac you are theirs forever…

      • Thanks for your advice. All sorted!

Also, I received a welcome email stating that I will be charged $250 annual fees for the Altitude Black Mastercard. Gave them a call and advised that I applied via the "Qantas Promotion" and not via the website directly. The person did some quick checks and said "no worries, I have reversed that and you will not be charged".

Also confirmed that my card is link to my QFF number.

I think Westpac needs to lift their game a little!

Zero issues with the AMEX one!

        • After too many clicks I also went through their direct website and lost the re-direction from the qantas website so now they will hit me with the $250 fee and I'm going to have to call them but at least i know what to do thanks to your post, thanks again.

        • @radem12:

          UPDATE 15/9/18:

I've just been charged $50 Qantas Rewards Fees. Had to call them up AGAIN to get it reversed.

I'd advise everyone to keep an eye out on their transaction history!

      • I spent close to 1 hour on the phone with them to reverse out the annual fees of $250. Needless to say I will cut the card up once the one year is up. They claimed that this is a goodwill gesture and they said they have NEVER seen a black card with annual fees waived. By far the worst of Big 4s, I have all signature/black cards with all 4 banks and have never encountered such poor service on a priority line. They even made me read out the offer that I screenshot because they do not have an email address that I can send the screenshots WTF.

        • That's bad luck I'd say :-). Well the good news is when you want to cancel you can do it online.

  • Just thought I would mention that I had to call Westpac Rewards to give them my Qantas Frequent Flyer number to get the rewards points in my Qantas Frequent Flyer account. Westpac Banking had my Qantas Frequent Flyer number but did not send it to Westpac Rewards so until now there would have been no way for the points I accrued (and signup bonus points) to appear in my Qantas Frequent Flyer Account. And the points are only transferred once a month from Westpac to Qantas so I now need to wait for them to appear in my Qantas Frequent Flyer account as my transfer date for this month has just passed.

    • Just curious, on your statement it would say that you've earned XX points for the month, and also states your QFF member number. Did your statement have this section with this info?

We got our 1st statement and no points yet (waiting for the autopay date to pass first) … but ours has the points we are owed and also the right QFF member number.

      • Nothing was mentioned at all about points and QFF number on the Westpac statement. That's why I thought I had better contact them and find out. Lucky I did because Westpac admitted that my QFF number had not been linked to the account. They had my number but strangely did not pass it on to Westpac Rewards to link it to my QFF account.

        • OK great, hopes are high for me then… but good to know that if there's an issue, first contact the Rewards Team. Cheers.

        • My statement had the correct QFF number and points, but the Weatpac Rewards area still didn't have it on their file when I called and had to link it manually…

        • @kez36: Thanks, i think that is our problem too. What amateurs.

  • Got conditionally approved, provided payslips from last 2 months, and then got knocked back a while ago… called them and was told they won't approve causal workers being less than 6 months with the current employer.

I would appreciate it if they actually made it clear so I wouldn't have bothered trying.

    • +1

Keep in mind it's pretty standard policy if your a casual worker u need 6 months minimum for most loans/credit cards. It would be nice if they displayed it, yes. You also can ask them before applying … Do research before you buy or apply for things

      • Should've applied before I moved on…

  • Im trying to create some kind of system here for myself to make churning and applying easier and more systematic for myself.
How do you guys do it?
I didnt see any apps, so I guess I should make a spreadsheet with perks and fees to see how much each card is worth.
I saw someone rating their cards with "rate of return", but they didnt seem to take into account the $ value of all the perks that can be converted into AUD and sold (points, travel credits, lounge passes, etc).
If someone has already made a spreadsheet like that for themselves, then I would be happy if they shared it with me. Or at least get some pointers of how to go on from here.

    • +1

I do love spreadsheets this sound like a great idea though didn't make any yet. My strategy is to apply only for free card where the minimum spending for bonus points is not over my normal spending.
Then apply spend get the bonus cancel and repeat. I ll write down the cancelation date for next year then I will know when I can apply again.

    • +2

I made this one up a while ago. I do have it in Excel where you plug in your own data and it converts it to a point/dollar value for each card but probably time I update it.

      • Thats pretty close to what i was thinking

  • +1

I got approved and told via email that my details were forwarded to American Express to process the amex card application, but still haven't heard from them in 2 weeks. Did anyone else have this happen, and did they have to contact westpac or american express to resolve this?

    • +1

Amex emailed me 'received' and 'approved' messages both within 2 mins of Westpac saying it'd been approved/referred to Amex.

I'd recommend calling Westpac first if you haven't got anything from Amex.

    • +1

I've been approved too, yesterday, and have not received anything from AMEX. All emails received have been from Westpac and only about the Westpac card. Worried now that for some reason the AMEX one didn't go through! Will call Westpac tomorrow…

      • +1

Not to happy. Called Westpac who said they needed to verify my mortgage payments (this wasn’t mentioned anywhere) and then told me I need to contact AMEX to follow up their card application. Called them and they’ve advised they have no record of the application…

        • +1

Yep, I've had the same issues - been knocked back and forth between Westpac and American express. Both have pointed or even directed my call to the other one. In the end after over an hour on the phone I still haven't received a resolution regarding the AMEX application.

The last response from Westpac was that I had to call AMEX and apply directly to them as part of the bundle. AMEX directed me to their website to apply for the card, and after I got off the phone I realised the Westpac AMEX isn't an option.

          Biggest waste of my time..

        • +1

@AzzaD: That sucks, after my conversation, a few hours later, I got a random text from both Westpac and AMEX saying that it was all approved and my cards are in the mail! Hopefully yours works out, otherwise take it to the Ombudsman!

        • @deeds89:
Thanks, I was approved 23rd August and already reviewed the Westpac card, so not hopeful on it resolving itself.
Will give it once last try calling them again and see if they can do anything

  • Anyone know which credit report Westpac use ? Credit Save has mine in 700+ (Very Good range).

I was turned down in 2016 so not sure if it's worth applying.

    • I've applied for three credit cards this year, got them all approved (inc westpac) but westpac's approval process was by far the most pain in the butt. Two weeks of regular BS, conflicting answers from them, questions and requests. Westpac need to pick up their customer service game. The people at the branches are excellent but the people on the phones ugh…

going by other comments here…it wasn't just me it seems

  • Does anyone know when the regular monthly earned Qantas points should be credited into your account by? On/after the statement due date?

    Or perhaps another date?

    • +2

Just for other's sake, I rang them and the QFF points date is an arbitrary set monthly date, not related to any date on your statement. They just set a date and that becomes your monthly trigger for transferring what is owed to you.
