    More points than previous deal

    • +22

I applied for that deal last night 😭

      • +7

        There there, have a +1.

      • +2

Unfortunately I have done the same. You can cancel your application and apply for this deal. I'm about to do that now.

FYI Over the phone I was told no issues to your credit rating. Just goes through as an enquiry in their system.

        • Yes I am calling now, as I figured since I applied last night there is a cooling period to cancel it, or some how switch. Fingers crossed.

        • @Nighteyes:

I am in a similar situation . called yesterday and was advised card was disptached on mon and to wait until the card is received and to take it to a branch and get a personal banker to activate and upgrade.
is that accurate? Were you`ll advised differently? had any luck so far?

    • Just to note the one you linked is the Platinum card , this is the black , has been same amount of points for a while

  • Think this deal you are required to apply for both.

  • +4

2 Qantas lounge passes as well definitely better than the previous deal

    • +2

If you choose Altitude Qantas, you are eligible for two complimentary Qantas Lounge invitations per year after your first Altitude Black Mastercard spend on selected Qantas products and services. To take advantage you must register and opt in.

This part after your first Altitude Black Mastercard spend on selected Qantas products and services seems rather annoying. The ANZ card doesn't have that requirement.

      • Hi. where is the option to opt in? is that in the application? i have just applied but i can't recall seeing that option.

        • +4

Qantas Club Lounge Invitations: To be eligible for the two complimentary Qantas Club Lounge invitations, you must register at loungepass.altitudeblack.com.au and then use your Altitude Black Mastercard in Australia to purchase selected Qantas products and services. Selected Qantas products and services are the following items purchased directly from Qantas: Qantas passenger flights (with a QF flight number), Qantas Frequent Flyer and Qantas Club membership joining and annual fees. Excludes Jetstar, Qantas Holidays, Qantas branded non-airfare products and any Qantas products and services not purchased directly from Qantas. Each year you will receive two complimentary lounge invitations once you have made the required spend on selected Qantas products and services.

        • @philhawthorne:

do you guys know that the required minimum spend to get the lounge passes is? I could not find it on the t&c.

          thanks

          • @Zinger: I just called the Rewards customer service. it's a $1 or more on Airfare or club membership.

As per T&C's non-airfare products are excluded.

        • @Zinger:

Nope doesn't seem to be made clear

        • +2

          @Zinger:

I think last time I booked a business class flight well into the future and then cancelled for full refund just to activate this bonus

        • @kickling: Do you reckon you can do this to meet the $6k spend minimum for the bonus points?

        • +1

@lozza6: I'd say so. For example book a flight 8 months ahead of time. You get your points in 4 months time. You got plenty of time to cancel your flight. Done deal.

        • @kickling:

Do Qantas refund via cash or credit?

      • +2

"selected Qantas products and services" includes top-up your qff acct as little as $20
        https://www.qantas.com/fflyer/dyn/program/usingPoints/topupP…

        • they have now changed the minimum to $49!

  • Any idea how much 80k points equate to a gift card of harvey norman,JB Hi fi etc from their westpac website

    • +64

Can you look it up and let me know thanks

    • +10

A $500 Hardly Normal card costs 82,450 (~0.6¢ per point).
A $250 JB Hifi eGift card costs 43,700 (~<0.6¢ per point).

I suppose it's worth reiterating that It's almost always terrible value converting FF points into anything other than flights, upgrades and (occasionally!) transfers to other points programs.

E.g. A classic award economy flight from Perth to London (direct) is 55,000 points. The same route, first class on Emirates (Stopping in Dubai) is 168,000.

      • +9

        Don't forget it's 55,000 points + $264

      • It's worth reiterating that this advice is terrible. Free money is free money, not everyone wants to use it for flights nor go through the hit and miss process of redeeming it. Upgrading is useless as Qantas already charges higher prices for flights you can find way cheaper on other airlines. Anyway people, use the free points on whatever you see fit.

        • If you can get the points together the absolutely best bang for buck way to redeem points is to go business class on an airline - particularly long distance. The business ticket prices are usually $5000+ return but the points are usually roughly double what an economy class ticket for $1000 is. You do need a lot of points though.

        • @try2bhelpful:

To be honest, I fly so little that I don't really care if I have to suffer a few hours in economy. Business class would be nice but 1500 bucks or so (150,000 points buys you a business class flight?) in the hand is even nicer.

    • Biz class return ticket to Bali. Plus taxes and fees.

  • Maybe I’ve missed it but it doesn’t seem to have a restriction on previous card holder?

    • +1

"Existing Westpac customers who currently hold an Altitude Platinum Visa Card or Altitude Black Mastercard, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer"

      • 🤬

        • get ANZ one now and next year when it come up again apply this one

      • I cancelled my Westpac Earth Black card last month. So i assume i will be eligible for this offer.

      • Closed mine last year on 31 aug so I will have a small window to do this one! (Usually I am on the wrong side of the closing date).

Always note closure dates for credit cards people.

        • if you don't remember when you cancelled your card you go into a branch and just ask someone to look it up. i was quite open about why i wanted to know and they were fine about it. but yeh might be good to note all the dates down in a spreadsheet for future reference.

  • +1

Glad I held out :) nice post op

  • It finally says $0 Annual Fee now :P

(too late for a lot of us I suspect who've signed up for the prev Platinum deal)

  • +3

Do you still get hit with two credit enquiries on your file?

    • I would assume so.

  • +1

I think min income is around $75k?

    • Yes it is.

    • I wonder if they accept 75k per household?

  • Good deal - props to those that held out on the previous ones do they can snag this.

  • Additional card holder fee?

  • Is there a way to not apply for the Amex and only the Visa?

  • -4

Is there a minimum income to this?

    • 75 grands is mentioned in the description.

  • Damn, got the Platinum card :(

    • Same. :(

      • Me too. Really wishing I hadn't seen this.

    • If you have enough cash reserves (quite a bit of spending involved in the next 5 months) and a decent credit rating wait 2 months and get this one as well. I am in the same boat. Actually, forget the 15,000 points for the Amex so you only need to spend $9000 in the next 5 months. Nets you a total of 195,000 points (75k for the Platinum, 80k + 40k for the black). I think I'll do that.

      • Need to wait 12 months after cancelling the Platinum card.

  • I'm currently holding ANZ QFF Platinum with the deal of 1st year annual fee waived. The deal will finish this September. Just wondering if I keep on applying for different credit card from different bank every year to avoid the annual fee, does it damage my credit rating/report at all? Btw, I'm going to apply for this offer. Thanks OP.

    • yes, it will show up on your credit score.

      • sorry but it means bad scoring right. Assuming I always pay full amount of my credit each month?

        • will show up as credit inquiry

        • -1

it would look like you are struggling financially as you keep applying for more credit cards hence why it negatively impacts your credit score.

        • I read on a number of articles that if I am planning to buy a house (which is yes) I shouldn't apply for any credit card. So I come back to a square one again.

        • @Zinger: Forgive my ignorance but what does that usually translate as? Does it mean people won't get a loan, or they pay a bigger interest rate, or what other penalty?

        • @ktphan: I'm doing exactly this right now and have 4 credit cards this year, applied for westpac last week making it 5. Will let you know how my loan approval goes in next 24hrs. Credit score is still 700+, got 20% deposit. Someone will take my money!

        • @tunzafun001: How did your loan approval go? About to do the same thing!

    • +1

      Welcome to the club

    • +1

My credit rating has gone from around 910 to 770 in the last six months from getting 4 new credit cards.
It's a rubbish way to assess credit score

      • +1

Wow 4 cards in 6 months. I thought my 4 cards in 12 months was aggressive. Though my score has not gone down once in any of the 4 applications.

        • +1

Yeah I've had a few expenses come up, so why not take advantage of bonus points.
I'm surprised it's gone down so much, although that's using getcreditscore and I'm not sure how reliable they are

      • Pardon my ignorance but which credit rating report are you referring to ?

I got mine from Equifax formerly Veda and just can't find this information so don't know why my application was turned down.

  • I am wondering how the banks/lenders evaluate our credit rating. I am thinking even there are multiple credit enquirers but if we can prove that we have already cancelled the credit card/liabilities, would they think this is still ok?

    • +1

Not a problem at all. I recall getting a second loan some years ago with the same lender and they'ved asked why i have had so small amount credit inquiries within 6 months.

Worked out well in the end, with approval condition that cards are cancelled. (Which was long gone after i have received the qff points).

  • So I have all the facts on Year 2 you are looking at a whopping 250$ for the Visa; 199$ for the Amex and a 50$ Qantas fee.

I presume most are cancelling before Year 2 starts and the 499$ charges start?

    • +1

That would be the smart thing to do for sure

    • +7

Can you read the comments above?

  • credit limit?

    • +1

Minimum $15000 for the card and then $3000 for the Amex option.

      • 15K is for the Platinum card, 8K for this black card. I doubt the AMEX limit would be 3K?

  • Sounds like hanging in there and then applying for the card near the expiry date is the go; just to see if anything juicier appears. Apart from the credit score hit is there any other issues with getting the card and then cancelling before the fees hit? We own our own home and don't need to borrow money for the forseeable future so I'm not so worried about the credit score issue.

  • qantas lounge requires quentas flight on same day?
can it be used for holfer and one guest?
cat it be used as access to.other one world lounge?

    • +6

      Meow

    • Yes requires qantas or jetstar flight, can be used by anyone, no to other oneworld lounges.

  • Has anyone had success applying for an AU credit card from overseas? I recently moved out of Australia but meet all other criteria for the card (and still have a valid AU address etc). However, proof of income would be payslips from a non-AU entity.
I'd prefer not to apply if it's going to mean an automatic rejection and mark against my credit score…

    • +1

Forget it. You will need to pick up the card in branch.

      • I was able to apply and get approved. For pick up, they said once it got to the branch, I could have a designated person pick it up on my behalf (like family member or someone with the same address on their drivers license).

  • -3

Can i aply for this and when i get the 80k points sell it here?? How easy is it to transfer the points??

  • Anyone know or can provide a link to what is deemed eligible purchases.

    • "Eligible purchases do not include fees, cash, cash equivalent transactions, BPAY, BPAY equivalent transaction, refunds and balance transfers debited from the card account."

I can only find what is ineligible..

  • I just asked this guy at Westpack who was extremely rude, she/he said first year is free saying if you can ask your friend where they got this news you could have it free !! unbelievably rude.

    • +8

I just asked this guy at Westpack

      Should've asked at Westpac

  • +1

Wow so many of you are making above 75k, I'm not eligible :(

  • +1

Applied for the ANZ Frequent Flyer Black last night, sent additional documents this morning.
    I hate you. 🙄😋

Thinking about requesting one using partner's name instead. I haven't applied for a credit card in the last 3 years, happy with AMEX Explorer but needing a new Visa or MC as I don't have a decent rewarding program for my MC.

    • You can have both ANZ FF Black and Westpac FF Black.

So between you and your wife, you could apply for 4 cards!
