  • Bought 2 of these about a week ago for $23.50 ea on eBay. Great price and they are a great bulb.

  • So does this work with the app via your home wifi? I guess you could also connect it to a wifi hotspot?

    • -1

Yes it does. Be aware that they don't work without the wifi around, even after you set them up

      • Turning it off and on again resets it to white, yes?

        • +3

I believe so. I got a xiaomi gateway and a xiaomi push-button switch and have programmed two of them to switch on and turn to a warmish colour temperature when i press it, another two are bound to a xiaomi motion sensor near the front door.

          .. xiaomi

Depend on how you set it up. It can be set to remember the last state/colour. The bulb will store this in its internal non volatile memory.

You only need wifi during setup. After setup and without wifi, it behave like a standard dumb bulb (on off via wall switch).

      • Yeah i think i misspoke here. I meant the auto-mode doesn't work without wifi. They still work as a normal on/off bulb without the wifi

  • How long does this bulb lasts? What's the warranty like OP?

    • +2

      Lifespan: 25000h

My guess is that warranty would be terrible to non existent - but for $22, I'm happy to accept this.

      • Thanks. Recently just researching about smart lighting. I missed the hue sale on amazon and bunnings so I'm looking at other options.

  • Is the bayonet version also discounted?

    • Maybe yeelight didnt have a bayonet version.

    • No Bayonet for Yeelights, only E22. You have to buy a B27->E22 adapter.

      • Will do! It seems that they fixed the only problem of the yeelights which was the brightness.

  • Weren't there some complaints about the RGB colour representation on these compared to the original?

  • -1

Not much more expensive to get with local warranty and shipping.

      Not much more expensive

Is like 50% more expensive before shipping…

      • I posted a deal for this store. They have a code that brings it down to $30 with free shipping for 2 or more bulbs.

    Need something a little brighter

    • 800 lumens sounds decent, but is that just a measurement of the light produced by the white LED (or white + blue LEDs)?

I'm considering buying one mainly for coloured lighting, but I'm worried it won't produce bright enough colours

      • +1

Been loving my ones I had been using a real old school yeelight blue (Bluetooth only) and these are very bright.

  • I've got one of these coming (overdue) from a previous order. But I'm having trouble finding a decent lamp holder to put it in. No E27 lamps at Bunnings or Target, and only a few models on entire eBay worldwide. Where are you finding nice lamps to put these E27 bulbs in?

    • Just buy a B22 to E27 adapter

You can put it in any holder you want.

  • How do these compare the the LIFX globes? As I already have a couple of those. But they’re usually $40 each when on sale

    • They are similar in what they do and both are good. This one being 800 lumens vr 1100lumens for the LIFEx ones. The hassle with mixing is controlling them i.e.each have their own apps. I have not tried any third party ones (if any) and yet to search for an "all in one" method of controlling both in one all. Suggestions welcome if anyone knows of a method.

One Reviewer over at Banggood wrote (which I think sums it up well and I agreed with below):

"The LIFX is alot brighter and has more vivid colors the reds are so much better on the LIFX there is no comparison. The Yeelight isn't quite as bright and the colors just look "softer" on the yeelight the red looks pink. The Greens and Blues on the Yeelight are actually pretty good but again not as bright or as strong as the lifx. The LIFX is 3x the price of the Yeelight so its great for the price. The LIFX is better for a larger room."

Best method for an 'all in one' solution would be setting up home assistant on a raspberry pi. Then you can control them all from any device.

        • Thanks for the suggestion and will take a look at that as have a spare Rasp Pi or two lurking around unused.

        • @Borg: HASS.IO is really easy to set up. And setting them up in that means you can still control them when the internet goes down, which you can't through the app.
Also you can add a whole bunch of other stuff too. I now use my phone as my tv remote too with a broadlink black bean set up.

        • Thanks for that. Now to find a SDcard and check if Rasp Pi originals or Pi2 will work. Will have a read up over at HAAS.io. Cheers

        • More an FYI for others. HAAS.IO does req a Rasp Pi 3. I have a few Pi vr2 around but too slow for HAAS. Shame as dont want to spend $50 on a Pi 3 just to control a few bulbs :)

        • @Borg: Interesting, I would have thought HASS would be pretty low on resource requirements. Bit of a shame…

      • Yeah the colours don't quite line up with google homes colours. Some are OK some are off. "Incandescent" works OK, but you lose a lot of output.

  • Under restocking?

  • I've used both these and the older ones. The olders one stopped working after around 6months, newer working well.

Only issue I've had is I am no longer able to set them up on timers, to gradually turn on in the morning ect… I remember initially they had this function, but the newer version of the app I can't seem to get it working. Anyone else having this problem?

  • Are these compliant with Australian standards (c-tick etc)?
