    Not available in WA :-(

And it seems like only the 900mm Upright and 1200 Crossbeam is still available. + the MDF

  • What are these rated for weight wise? Are these flimpsy and will bend easy?

  • "designed with full flexibility in mind" - includes full flexibility of components (bendy)

Meh Cross Beams are sold out…

  • Thanks op. Ordered a setup with 2 shelves for $12.

Sounds similar/identical to Bunnings 'Rack It' 400kg system. There's also the Rack It 1000kg system, which has castors available not that i could make them fit.

These things are meant to carry serious loads, but i'd check the welds as some of what i'd checked out at Bunnings had failed.

    • +1

Two wrenches to bend open the castor openings was needed to fit mine.
Stupid it didn’t fit out of the box but all good now and a great investment

      • Oh right - i only had my noodle on me at the time and that proved useless as a wrench.

I wanted something with wheels but ended up using the 400kg set, which don't have the option.

  • +2

Crossbeams gone for me, but picked up two of the uprights and will figure something out later… typical OzBargainer "buy now, ask questions and think about any possible use later"

    • they are sold out as per mine location, thinking if the ones from bunnings will stack nicely with these uprights…

    • Cross beams sold out here in Canberra also. I have bought the uprights and MDFs, and will try and figure out what to do next.

    • +1

Try the 400kg beams listed here

      • Thanks mate, will definitely try those, when pick up my order…

      • +1

The problem is the beams are expensive, at $12 a beam for the part you need the most it's way more than I'm willing to spend, and you need a lot of beams if you are decking out (I guess a normal 1800 shelf has about 14, at 12 bucks you are looking at 168 for one shelf before adding the uprights and wood! I know it's 400 deep but still.

Edit: After thinking about it and seeign some of the other comments about how people used them I bit the bullet and bought 16 uprights, but it's going to be a lot of dicking around before I have something useful, I'm sure a lot of people couldn't be bothered.

        • yep. thats me. can't be bothered. :) great deal otherwise.

        • +1

Christ if you need to get that many then yeah, it's a bigger commitment.

BTW these are clearance items, so it's not like they'll be coming back into stock.

They're also not identical to the Bunnings 'Rack It' - almost, but not quite. For example with width of the vertical structure is around 40mm, while the 400kg 'Rack It' is about 45mm. While others have indicated you can use the Bunnings beams i'm less sure it will be a perfect fit.

So ordered uprights at my local store, they didn't actually have the stock so pushed to the closest store to fulfil the order ship to them for me to then pick up at local.
Get a phone call from other store advising this… me "so have you got any of the uprights?" After some stock counting and stuff due to them getting a few orders at the same time (probs all OzBargainers) him "yeah mate, 2 left, just place a click and collect order and I'll chuck them in on the order back to your local store".

      WINNNNINGGGG :D

      • Congrats! I forgot my phone, interested to know if there were any calls, but my order is ready for pickup as per email received.

    • +2

Ditto your thought process - I just snagged 20 uprights from my local store, will pickup in a few days. Have a crapload of hardwood beams that were gifted to me so I figure I'll cobble together some crossbeams out of these and cut some ply or similar for shelving. Easy and very cheap extra storage for my shed.

I live rural and having DIY'd some shelving before this for the sake of a few dollars is worth easily as couldn't make same bits from cheapest pine at that cost.

      Thanks OP.

Got a heap of these from a similar sale last year and built an excellent rack out of them to safely store approx. $12,000 worth of <6m lengths of timber in the back yard while I slowly renovate the house. Got a large tarp off Gumtree to cover it all and it's worked brilliantly. Very highly recommended!! Construction and filling in progress Ended up with 400mm centres on the cross bars which is ideal for storing timber lengths of all varieties. The powdercoated finish makes it a breeze to slide timber across plus gives the steel a far better chance of surviving the outdoors… even though it's all covered by a super thick tarp anyway. Great!

    • +2

Oh that's a nice setup. Thanks for sharing ideas.

      • No worries :) Depending how good/bad they are after another year or two of renos I'll definitely be reusing them as 'long storage' between the wall of the shed and the fence but of course could be used for many other things. Pity they can't be used upside-down because I could screw them to the underside of the house as an off-ground rack. Oh well.

    • +1

      Respect for that

  • Thanks OP I I ordered 8 x uprights, 24 cross beams and 36 mdf's. For some reason the SCA website would only let me order small quantities at a time from 2 different stores - so I have about 5 orders with SCA Para Hills and SCA Elizabeth (SA). Going to be fun explaining that one!

    • I've done the same with holden hill, but only two sets :D

    • +1

They don't update their stock levels straight away, so if you ordered say 5 units from 1 store 3 times for a total of 15, they probably only have the 5.

  • -1

How many boards do I need per shelf?

    • +2

If you can't figure that out yourself, then modular is prob not the option for you.

    • 3

  • Hi if anyone in sydney got more cross bar then needed pls pm me as i got the uprights and shelves only

    • and if anyone in Melbourne has spare cross bars, please pm me. thanks

    • ffs

      • Can anyone confirm that the Bunnings 400kg RackIt cross bars are in fact compatible?

        • yes, please confirm if someone is aware

        • +6

          @Ametric:
I can confirm the Bunnings Beams are compatible
Just bought 4 beams and put two together into the SCA uprights

However, the mdf shelves are 10mm too wide to fit onto Bunnings Beams

        • +4
        • @ozblogger:

          Oh, good - i was just guessing…

Note there's the beams, but there's also structs that are designed to provide additional support under the MDF itself. These latter struts (if the Bunnings ones fit, which they call 'shelf support braces') help provide stability to the whole show.

          Gee i'm useful.

        • @ozblogger:

are you able to share which beam it is and how much?

          thanks!

        • @ozblogger: Thank you mate, will need to cut those boards then…

        • +2

          @AngryChicken:
Bunnings 1200 beams are $9 each. Makes this less of a bargain.
But I guess it's better than the $50 racks available elsewhere (ALDI had one not loo long ago)

        • +1

          @zyrex:
          I got these ones
          https://www.bunnings.com.au/rack-it-1200-x-50mm-black-shelvi…

But I guess 900mm and others might work too

        • +2

          @ozblogger:

Yep, though the 900mm are $7.00.

Heading off to SCA - you buggers better not have bought everything.

        • +1

          @AngryChicken:
Yeah, I had a look at those back and shelf supports too- but can't be sure
Good on ya for recommending Bunnings RackIt, luckily I was close to a Bunnings store, so popped in and got some (looked compatible, since the grooves were angled, just like SCA ones)

  • Plenty of stock in SA…but I can't think of where to install / store them…

  • Ozbargained! Cross beams are gone.

  • Only single size MDF Board, 399 x 425mm ??

    • Combine to the length you want
The ones in store were 400 x 450mm (so use 2 for 900mm beams)
No wonder they are discontinuing these

      • All sold out around me anyway, and a lot online too.
        Ozbargained.

      • Pretty sure they're the same board, dunno why they list them with such confusing dimensions.

  • Found boards and uprights, but can't find any crossbeams :( I give up. Could maybe fit some other beams since it looks generic, but too much hassle for me.

    • +1
      • Looks similar, but are you sure they'll fit? The stock I found is probably gone now, but I'll try

Edit: still showed stock in store, so ordered. We'll see if it actually gets reserved or not.

Edit: saw comments above were rackit cross beams are used. Thanks.

  • cross beam sold out! Booooooo

  • Wank $60 for delivery.

    • +2

Yeah i'm told that's about the going rate in Chatswood.

      Maybe that's too vague.
I'm talking about a happy ending.

      Maybe that's too vague.
      I give up.

  • +2

Wow… this is a VERY good price!!!

I spent a few hundred bucks about 6 months ago on Rack It 1000kg set up for the garage, and this is very good pricing for something that looks very similar.

Even those cheap galvanized fixed shelves you can buy (and slice up your hands putting together) are more expensive than this.
Finding stock will be the biggest issue, but even you can only get two uprights and 4-6 crossbeams, that's a damn cheap shelving system!
For those stressing about the shelf itself, you can just buy MDF sheets from Bunnings and cut them to suit.

Just bear in mind that they don't list a 400kg/1000kg weight limit like other brands (Rack It etc), so take care with heavy loads… but for general storage in the garage and commonsense (don't put anything really heavy up high!), these should be perfect for most household usage.

    Terrific post/deal OP, well done.

    • Too bad no stores have stock of everything and delivery is $60

  • Damn!
    Bought 12 x ToolPro Modular Shelving - Upright, 900mm
Then, attempted but fail to buy 36 x ToolPro Modular Shelving - Cross Beam, 1200mm - out of stock even for delivery!

Don't know what to do with the 12 x ToolPro Modular Shelving - Upright now!

    • +2

      Call and cancel the order

  • Do the Cross beams come in pairs?

    • +3

      No Rhubarb, they do not.

    • +2

      No Rhubarb, they do not.

      • Thanks Angry Chicken. Cannot find a single one in all of Oz anyways :(

  • can these be mounted on a wall?

    • +4

Anything is wall mountable if you're brave enough

  • Anyone find anymore cross beams in SA? Thebarton have at least 100 uprights according to the site

  • they told me it is online only…

    • -1

BS, i just bought a few in-store, though i had to join their club plus BS for $5. Apparently i'll be getting $10 back somehow…

  • +4

For those madly chasing crossbeams, as noted the Bunnings ones are as confirmed by several 100% compatible and if you're after an OzB solution DIY your own out of any timber beam. I have a lot of hardwood beams onhand so by simply cutting to my desired size and using a couple of good sized wood screws to affix each through the slots and you're sorted.

Use ply or mdf or even other smaller beams cut and affixed in intervals for the 'shelving'. Not the prettiest solution BUT with a coat of black paint and it'll look quite passable (IMHO).

The uprights are the hard part - and buying at this price takes it out of it - hence my snagging 20 now and figure the rest out later.

    • -2

What if i don't like getting dirt under my nails?
      What then ay?
      Yeah, exactly.

      • +2
        1. Take wooden chopstick, bite down on it
        2. Take pliers
        3. Remove 'troublesome' nails

        Problem solved.

  • Better off just buying a sheet of MDF and cutting up? since you need 3 per cross 1200 cross beam

    • These work out cheaper than any size sheet of 12mm MDF from Bunnings

    • Good luck finding 1197 x 425 x 12mm MDF for $3!

  • damn it. snoozed.

  • +4

Looks like they could be used for 19" racks easily enough.

    http://imgur.com/a/QrETl58

Just need to add a cross beam (maybe from wood) and some screws or cable ties…

  • outa stock :(

    • all sold out… Was thingung start to build my garage…

  • Anyone in Sydney who doesn't need these uprights please let me know.. I need plenty..

  • Anyone in Melbourne who have some cross beams and don't need them, please let me know. i need 12.

  • If anyone on the Gold Coast/Brisbane got too many cross-beams, I'll buy them back from you. I need 20x.

    Thanks!

  • The cross beams are now available on E-Bay - seller:supercheapauto

However they want $7.95 delivery for each bar - and there is no click and collect stock.

Prefer to go to Bunnings and pay the extra 5 cents and have it straight away

  • If anyone in SA has too many Cross-Beams or Uprights, willing to pay more than $1ea

    • +1

Just tried my luck at Kilkenny, a few of the 1200 cross beams left but nothing else. Good luck!

      • thx picked up these last two. don't i need 4 total to make a shelf?

        • Two will make a wobbly table or shelf. Add a third for stability.

      • Interesting.. I have 6 to pick up from Kilkenny from an order wed night. I missed a call from them today…better still be there.
