We are back with another Rippa Deal

    another??? Where is the first?

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/user/264566/nodes

    • Well the other four have expired since

      • +1

I'm referring to the number of +ve votes.

        • That's something we don't have control over as the number of people signing up and using the services isn't reflected by the votes.

        • +2

          @rippahost:

That's something we don't have control over

Actually, good deals generally get lots of votes here…

          You've averaged about 3 +ve votes per post… Hardly a 'Rippa' deal…

        • -2

@jv: As I said earlier, that's something I don't have control over, if you are not convinced "Rippa" also happens to be our Business Name

        • +2

          @rippahost:

"Rippa" also happens to be our Business Name

Oh, so they're not supposed to be good deals then…

          Thanks for clarifying…

        • @jv: Feel free to run with that, it's democracy, everyone can have their say and have a perspective.

        • +2

          @rippahost:

          it's democracy

That's what the voting is for…

        • Hi @jv, can I please have your take on a rippa roll?

        • @rompastompa:

How many upvotes does it have?

        • @jv: This deal is basically the same (gravy==coke). This one has 5, but this one has 102. 🤔

        • @rompastompa:

The one with 102 is only a ½ Rippa.

This deal on the other hand is struggling to get even a couple of votes…

  • I'm confused is the deal for the domain or the hosting?

    • Both,

      1. .Sydney/.Melbourne for $8/year

      2. Get any Aussie Domain Name for $0.01/year if you purchase with one of the selected Hosting Plans with yearly payment.

  • Can I take advantage of this if I have a .sydney domain registered with another company currently? Can I tranfer the registration to your company?

    • -1

Sorry, this price is only for new registrations. If you want transfer your domain, our renewals price for .sydney domains are $70/year.

      • What if I cancel my registration with the other company and then register it as new with you?

        • Your domain will have to expire and once it's past the Grace Period (normally 30 Days after expiry), it will be available for registration again.

    BEWARE!

Shared Hosting being sold as Dedicated Hosting.

    https://www.accc.gov.au/business/advertising-promoting-your-…

    • -5

Having dedicated amount of SSD, RAM and CPUs doesn't qualify for dedicated?

      • +3

No, it does not. That's Shared Hosting with SSD, RAM and CPU allowances.

Dedicated Hosting means that the server is not shared with anyone.

        • Dedicated Hosting means that the server is not shared with anyone.

          The must work in Marketing

        • Which is normally referred to as an Dedicated Server.

        • @rippahost: Dedicated Hosting / Dedicated Server are the same thing. How do you not know this?

        • +1

          @rippahost:

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dedicated_hosting_service

A dedicated hosting service, dedicated server, or managed hosting service is a type of Internet hosting in which the client leases an entire server not shared with anyone else.

        • -2

@kamoi: Please find any reference on our ad or website where we mention it is a "Server" we are selling. It is clearly mentioned, the amount of Dedicated Resources that are available on each plan and any limitations in place hence the name Dedicated Hosting.

We actually have whole another tab in the menu for Dedicated Servers which aren't available yet.

        • @rippahost:

It is clearly mentioned, the amount of Dedicated Resources that are available on each plan and any limitations in place hence the name Dedicated Hosting.

The name should be Shared Hosting since that it what you are actually selling there. It is NOT Dedicated Hosting.

It doesn't inspire a lot of confidence when you don't seem to understand what you are selling even after having it explained to you.

        • @rippahost:

          https://ventraip.com.au/web-hosting/shared/

Here's an example of VentraIP selling the same thing you are, difference being that they call it what it actually is, Shared Hosting.

        • -2

@kamoi: Shared Hosting is normally referred to a service where other websites and users have the ability to affect the performance of everyone else as all the resources are Shared. Here this is not the case.

        • -2

@kamoi: And as I mentioned earlier, at no stage are we promising an entire server, but make it quite clear that it is rather dedicated resourced hosting, where no other users affect the performance of each other.

        • @rippahost:

No, Shared Hosting is ANY hosting where the server is Shared, regardless of if any allowances have been set or not. If the server is Shared, it is Shared Hosting.

Dedicated Hosting means that the server is NOT shared with anyone else. This is not the case with your offering.

        • @kamoi: So I guess the whole world should label VPS as Shared VPS because a physical server could have many VPS hosted on it.

        • @rippahost:

And as I mentioned earlier, at no stage are we promising an entire server,

You do however make a false statement by calling it Dedicated Hosting when it is actually Shared Hosting.

Any statement representing your products or services should be true, accurate and able to be substantiated. There are fines for businesses that mislead consumers. It does not matter whether a false or misleading statement was intentional or not.

          .

but make it quite clear that it is rather dedicated resourced hosting, where no other users affect the performance of each other.

What you are describing is Shared Hosting with resource allowances. Why do you keep insisting on calling it something which it is not?

          Also:

Businesses can't rely on small print and disclaimers as an excuse for a misleading overall message.

        • -1

@kamoi: Please, feel free to report and we can this discussion with ACCC directly.

        • @rippahost:

So I guess the whole world should label VPS as Shared VPS because a physical server could have many VPS hosted on it.

Wouldn't it be kind of redundant to label virtualization as being shared?

        • @rippahost:

I'm quite happy to do so if you insist, but I think it would be better for you to just stop misleading your customers and call the service what it actually is, Shared Hosting.

      • -1

At best it qualifies as VPS, but definitely not "Dedicated".

        • -1

Yes, quite similar to a VPS, the only difference being we only provide jailed SSH access

        • @rippahost: dude it's not a vps either…

You're just using cloudlinux to allocate resources

        • @jesseboy89: Not saying it's a VPS, just drew a comparison.

  • Thanks for the deal, I took up the domain rego deal.

Feedback on the site -the captcha is very annoying. I don't know why but I had to do it multiple times. The PayPal page was in Japanese initially… The return to site from PayPal also triggered a return to PayPal, cancelling the second PayPal gives a confusing payment attempt was unsuccessful error but an invoice showing paid and no balance due. (All this on Android 9 Chrome, PIA Sydney Server).

    • Sorry about your trouble, Captcha is only for visitors, Users don't have Captcha active.

In regards to PayPal issues, it's hard to say why it was Japanese, we will investigate further if this an issue for everyone.

    • And for everyone else, I just got my order refunded…

Seriouslg, this should have been part of the domain search function, I shouldn't have been allowed to pay if I wasn't going to get the domain at the advertised price.

      Revoked my + vote…

      Hi xxxx,

Sorry to inform you, but your domain name request for ****.melbourne and ****.sydney has been rejected by the Australian Registry, as it is classified as premium. We have refunded the full amount of your invoice. If you would like to register another domain name, please do get in contact with us and we can offer any non-premium .Sydney or .Melbourne domain name at a lower price than this current invoice/promotion.

      • I thought Synergy Wholesale had fix this issue apparently not.
