    this is pretty sick!
wish I could do it - take side trips from London, LA and HK of course.

    • I bet it's not exclusive to FS. If you book via the airline it might be even cheaper.

      • I doubt the airline will be cheaper, but I do think you could get the deal elsewhere, if you looked around.

  • +1

If i can take side trips to chicago, greece and italy. This would be great.

    • -2

It’s not an actual RTW fare.

      • -1

I always assumed making a clockwise or anti-clockwise trip around the world from destination A back to destination A would be 'around the world'? What makes this not an actual RTW fare? Or is it just because you are too lazy to book the extra flights yourself?

        • RTW fares are a special type of ticket, they are not the same as just flying around the world.
They have different conditions compared to if you booked individual flights. For example you can't fly backwards.

          https://www.oneworld.com/flights/round-the-world-fares

        • That is with booking with an alliance, the same applies for Virgin Atlantic/Australia. All flights are booked under VS (with the VA flights booked as codeshare). It is all under one booking.

Still qualifies as a round the world fare. Literally comparing my last Oneworld RTW fare and the new VS RTW fare and there is little difference apart from the satisfaction from booking on a RTW labelled website.

        • @jamdav16: Unless things have changed recently, it's ticketed with VA (the old QF+VS was ticketed with VS)

They don't need to be codeshared flights, but one of the VS ones is able to be codeshared.

Finally, a chance to enjoy back-to-back long haul international flights without all of that annoying visiting of exotic foreign locations that it usually entails!

their pesky currency and weird languages. you'd think they'd at least try to speak strine if they wanted our mighty dollars. ignorant galahs

      • So Hong Kong is now a Western City? Not really. Western influenced, maybe.

        • It was managed by the UK for, roughly, 156 years; there is still a lot of UK influence there. It is a bit like Mauritius - which I thoroughly recommend visiting - exotic but the UK overlay means it feels vaguely familiar.

          Eh? Not following ya cobber.

  • wow nice

  • +1

LA is crap though. Too open ..

    • I used to think that as well, but didn't mind it on our last trip.
Stayed at Manhattan Beach, travelled around (hire car), some nice suburbs, depends what you like.

Incredible deal!’would jump if I could

  • Curious about what people do for accommodation. Backpackers, book hotels in advance, or look for last minute hotel deals when you land?

    • +2

I use expedia app because it gives bonus points. book in advance.

im a bit of a hotel snob

    • in the US - Airbnb.

      • Do you worry that Airbnb owners put hidden cameras and try and spy on you?

        • +32

I walk around naked and wink at every opportunity.

        • Do you worry about hotel owners, staff, maintenance men doing the same thing?

        • @Duram: no, because you can sue them.

          who do you sue? airbnb?

        • +10

My view is if they see me naked it is their problem, not mine.

        • I'd be concerned if they didn't. I didn't tattoo my ArseBnB ad on my lower back for nothing. I might even be able to turn a profit out if my stay!

    What's the "from" $1199?

Last time I went to Flight Centre to use a $100 voucher I won from Maccas Monopoly, I asked to purchase two of these and they added $80 per ticket for registered post delivery to their store. I asked why it had to be $80 per ticket when they can come delivered together and they said it couldn't be changed.

In the end it was cheaper for me to buy from another site and not use my monopoly voucher.

    • Depends on how restrictive you are with the flight dates as to how close you will get to $1199.

      • 'From' basically indicates that it's based on the cheapest booking class. Depending on your dates of travel that may not be available.

Just need a business class version of this for $4K

    • Yes please, make it happen OP!!!!

      • +1

I don't think OP has that power.

    • This! I was going to ask what the price would be for business.

    • Ask and you shall recieve.

      • +1

        $5999 > $4K

        • FJD$5999 < AUD$4000. :)

  • +1

Just under 24k miles. If credit to VA would qualify for gold I believe.

  • 5 weeks to do all of those places…..

  • +18

Did this trip last year in Business Class; when the sale was on - $3400 per business class ticket was the bargain of the year.

    • Hong Kong was too hot and humid for my personal tastes - but was fine for about 5 days. Victoria Peak and the Buddha were the highlights IMHO.
    • London - Eurostar is the gateway to Europe - we went to France and Switzerland and only spent about 3 days in London.
    • LA - Get on a plane/car/train and go elsewhere in America.

it might be worth talking to the travel agent about flying into a different American city then flying out of LA, and getting a cheap internal US flight.

This flight is cheaper then going direct to Europe.

    • I didn't see this. Would love to grab the deal if ever there's another chance.

      • +1

it was up for about 2 days and then all sold out. We saw it on Ozbargain, I mentioned it to the man and we booked it that day; with a confirmation on the next day so we could guarantee the time off work. We thought it would be really restricted but as long as we didn't go in/our during the school holidays we were fine for September/October. Believe me, I'm looking for that deal again too.

  • I did this last year when it first appeared and it was great.

Is better this year as you don't have to fly to Melbourne first.

    • You didn't last year if you used QF rather than VA; I flew from Sydney!

  • More like a segmented itinerary that happens to go around the world one way. It is not what is generally considered an round the world fare in usual ticketing parlance. Still an awesome deal though!

  • +1

Virgin have some great RTW fares, just a shame that they don't do any stops in mainland Europe :(

I recently did a RTW trip and only paid $800 total for my London - LA - Melbourne legs on Virgin

    • How? on points so you paid taxes?

      • Nope, just found a good multi-city fare through skyscanner.

I believe that it was essentially ticketed as a London - Melbourne fare (with a stopover in the middle)

        • Whenever I've looked on Skyscanner the price for a one way ticket is about the same for a return one. What dates were you looking at? I want a one way for about July next year.

        • @try2bhelpful: 21/06/18 and 27/06/18, booked through Jetabroad. It's also worth checking the Virgin Atlantic website and looking at both directions (Skyscanner doesn't always search this - I've raised a ticket with them)

Am I the only one that is bugged by the fact it says economic class in the title? :p

    • +13

      It’s a lectured flight

  • Sta seems to have it cheaper - not sure identical or not.

    http://www.statravel.com.au/round-the-world-routes.htm?utm_s…

  • +2

Well I guess that's one way to while away travel time on a plane, getting some economics classes in.

    Will there be a test?

  • How long do you get to stay in each place?

    • +1

Has to be all said and done within 5 weeks.

      • You might want to investigate that with FC. We had restrictions with last year's flight and we didn't actually have to adhere to them. They may be a bit flexible.

  • +4

I've done a quick search and have noted that roundabouttravel have a similar deal (from $1179 departing from MELB):

    https://www.roundabouttravel.com.au/deals/virgin-economy-rtw…

Regarding stopovers, they note the following:

Melbourne – Hong Kong [Transit] – London – Los Angeles – Melbourne (or visa versa).

    Stopover Options -
    Asia: Hong Kong, Shanghai
    European cities: London
North American cities: Fly between Australia and Los Angeles with Virgin Australia. Between USA and Europe you may fly out of LA or New York, or make your own way and fly from Atlanta, Boston, Las Vegas, Miami, Orlando, Seattle, Washington to London on Virgin Atlantic.

So it seems that there is a bit of flexibility with the itinerary (at least on roundabouttravel), though I would assume that there would be at flight center also.

  • You can book this yourself on SkyScanner and potentially get a price beat with Flight Centre. Similar price for Sydney - Hong Kong - London - New York (make your own way to) Los Angeles - Sydney. You can also branch out to Shanghai, Chicago and some European destinations under the same fare for a few more bucks.

    • Same dates? are there similar prices for when the world is warmer?

      • yep same dates, unfortunately it gets considerably more expensive after April.

  • Departure Dates: 25 Feb 2019 - 11 Apr 2019
Does it mean as long as I leave before the 11th Apr?

Flights to LA from Adelaide around the 15th are $1,400 return!

It might be easier to use SkyScanner, in order to get an actual price on dates you need to give all your details which I find annoying.

  • +1

Will there be Economics classes supplied or are you saying this deal is economic? Oh the OCD

    • +2

Fixed, now you don't need to bring your study books.

      • Danke

  • -4

If you could substitute those crap holes London and LA I'd be keen.

    • Just use them as a landing place and go elsewhere.

    • LA could be a great base to get a $5 fare on the megabus out to Vegas, from there you could visit the Grand Canyon?

Or catch the Amtrak to Anaheim for Disneyland, or up the California coast to Santa Barbara?

Heaps of great stuff within a few hours of LA

      • +1

Exactly, or cheap flights to San Fran or the train to San Diego. People always rubbish LA but who spends more than a few hours within a short distance of LAX?! LA is the gateway to Cali!!

    • London isn't a crap hole if you know it, it's by far better than all the cities in Australia combined.

      • +1

I wouldn't agree with the "far better" comment, as I live in Melbourne, but London is certainly a good city to visit. The museums are terrific and some of them are free (they do have very visible donation boxes). The problem I have with London is it is expensive, particularly when you take into account the exchange rate. I prefer to go to Europe; however, next time we fly into London we will probably go to Oxford/Cambridge, the Lakes District, etc to see a bit more of the UK.

        • I love Melbourne, I'd still take London over it but I agree on the expensive point. It's very expensive but I don't have to worry about paying for hotels. Some of the nicest places I've been are expensive though (I'm looking at you Waikiki)

        • +1

          @Where's_That_Cake:
Personally, I have no idea why people visit Melbourne as tourists; but I love living here.

My family rented a place further up the coast in Oahu and it was really terrific. If you hire a car it is relatively easy to get around the Island and we got to Snorkle with sea turtles off this beach up there. Absolutely magic.

We did find a good hotel in London - it was small, but modern, and it included free wine and cheese (so I think we ate/drank the cost of our hotel).

        • @try2bhelpful: My stance exactly; I'm always at a bit of a loss when asked what to do when I have friends or family visit. I felt the same way as a visitor to San Francisco - seems like a nice place to live (if you can afford the rent), but not all that exciting as a place to visit.

        • @try2bhelpful: we go to Waikiki every year but spend a couple of days with a hire car visiting the North shore. Love the whole island but I enjoy the night life in Waikiki too much to stay in the North side.

        • +1

@Where's_That_Cake: You party animal. I was surprised how much I did like Hawaii. Tempted to go back to have a look at the vulcano. Happy trails, dude.

        • @ely: San Francisco has some nice galleries and I really love to walk around - although it is unusual as you get a "burn" on the front of your leg going downhill as well as the "burn" at the back going uphill. Also, hanging on the outside of the Trolley car, particularly at the front, is a great way to travel. Get the phone out and video it.

      • I'm an events planner and it seems that a lot of girls seem to be based/prefer to be from London XD I suppose it's like if you lived in the country and were excited about going to the city. idk though.

  • webjet.com.au has the same for $1,159

  • +2

Is it possible to upgrade to business class with points?

    • Keen to know as well..

    • Super unlikely. All likely to be lowest classes

  • I think you could pay with multiple Flight Centre giftcards (in denomination of $75 and $150) which can be
found at Woolies using Woolworths e-giftcards via Cash rewards (-5% discounts, which isn't much just -$60)

    https://i.imgur.com/W1aQ4fE.jpg

    • +2

You should be able to pay with multiple gift cards but FC gift cards sold in Woolies come with 5% fee so therefore the saving is negligible

      • you can get the woolies points but yeah pretty negligible otherwise

        • Afaik unlike coles, we don’t get points on gift cards purchase at Woolies.

  • Is this the return of that $3k J RTW Fare?

    • No. Economy is not J.

  • Took this trip last year, was awesome. even got to walk the red carpet at the emmys, they thought I was a photographer.

  • Sorry if it is off topic. Im new with Flight Centre. But is there any similar deal for travelling 1 region at a time only? Not necessarily with FC. Like Europe, America, or Asia? I want to travel with my family, which has elders & children and with the route like this, the jetlag is killer.
    Thank you.
