Edit: what's the best way to tell telecube to disconnect the service?

    Come on ABB rep!

Surely these posts are enough for you to see that your existing customers would like a little love too! You pride yourself on exceptional customer service so don’t be like the “others” and only think about growing numbers while ignoring your existing user base.

Giving existing customers some sort of extra enticement will only add to your already great service and offering. Don’t be shy, now! :)

I would also consider MyRepublic, have been with them for past 18 months, have been really impressed with the speeds that I get. Their Gamer Pro package

You will see a lot of people will not agree with you. At first I signed up with MR the speed was good but when more people on NBN it is unusable during peak.

After I switched over to AussieBB I never have a slow down problem.

May be you are the lucky one on FTTP.

    • They're the worst performing of the major 6.

    • +2

I also used to get great speeds on MyRepublic, but only to speedtest.net . I am fairly certain that they selectively unthrottle speed to speedtest.net, as this is what they ask users for as 'evidence' of slow speeds. I would also get near full speed on speedtest.net (>70Mb/s, limit of my FTTN connection), while fast.com would hover around 6-11Mbps. Am glad to be rid of MyRepublic.

  • What classifies as new customer.. I was a customer about 6 months ago

    • YOU ARE a new customer

    • +1

I just rang and asked this exact question (after signing up) and the rep said that the code was applied successfully and it should be fine.

I recommend ringing and checking yourself though

  • I'm getting invalid promo code

Is that because I have been with Aussie broadband at this address previously?

    • How recently? I left them in March and it seemed to work for me now

      • Like a year ago

        • Did you guys previously use a promo code?

        • @goosmurf: yep this is the key.

According to Phil via whirlpool if you take advantage of a promo, your location id is then removed from the promo system.

So it works for me, because last time I was a customer I didn't use a promo during signup. If it's not working for you it's because you've used a promo previously

        • @thedavemiester: I used a promo code last year and left ABB. Rejoined using this promo code successfully.

  • Signed up with the free modem deal a while ago and could not be any happier switching from Telstra. Getting faster speeds with Aussie Broadband 42/16 and previously 38/16 with Telstra (could also be the better modem). Also paying $19.50 less each month.

  • Good way to do it schedule both after each other. Signup to this and sign up to Mungo and request date after the 6 months is up. Worst that can happen is a better deal comes by and you give them a call to arrange a refund.

  • Just signed up, should be getting nbn in the next couple of months. I believe the Telstra modem is highly regarded for FTTN connections?

Current internet doesn't require a traditional modem so need to source one.

    • I have a TP-Link Archer VR600V (VOIP capable) on my FTTN NBN

      It works well

Should be able to get it for under $200 locally

      • I have 4 Google Wifi pucks, I have no need for a Router, or VOIP. Just a pure modem.

  • Ah literally just paid telecube another $170 2 hrs ago

    • $170? Why pay for 2 months?

      • We always forget to pay it

        • At worst your internet will be slow until you make payment. Now you've looked yourselves in

  • Hey guys

I built new house move in about week i have fttp. Best sign up now can tell them when im moving in?

Also can i download at least 2tb with unlimited 100mb connection?

  • How long does it take to switch over from another NBN FTTN ISP? Is there a downtime?

    • +1

From experience it usually happens about 10 mins after you hit the submit button. It is very fast. I think however to be safe budget half day in case.

  • If only I wernt in a contract T_T

AussieBB I can keep coming back to cause they're good but I don't like the normal standard prices so $20 off is good!

  • If it were a permanent $60 a month I might be tempted, currently paying that but don't want to be slugged the extra $30 a month after the promo ends. Though you'd think they'd have a capped plan for that price too, say 1000GB per month?

    Oh well, such is life.

  • These deals keep getting better!

  • can we signup now and activate later?

  • Anybody from Brisbane who gets 80+mbps? What suburb are you in?
Im in petrie with FTTN and can only get a theoretical top download speed of 28mbps,same for my mate in Mango Hill. Mate in capalaba with FTTP is also round the same.

    • I'm in Wishart getting 95mbps at all times using HFC. http://www.speedtest.net/result/7553279890
My guess with FTTN would be to check your internal house wiring.

    • FTTP only getting 28? Something wrong there… which provider?

  • So people download 2tb without shaping?

  • I'm currently with Spintel achieving very average speeds, and am looking to switch to Aussie when NBN is available to us in about 6 weeks.
Will I be able to use my current NF10WV that we got from them, with Aussie?
Reading conflicting reports online about whether Spintel lock it or not - does anybody know?
    Thanks!

  • Well I signed up also. My Mungi deal for 6 months @ $59 for 50 down as a transfer from the defunct Buzz ends in a monthish so I have ordered the switch for then. Really trying to keep only paying $60/m or less for 50Mb (since my line can only sync at 32mb) - but its getting hard.

  • +1

    https://ct.id.au/abb-cvc/

Check your CVC graphs first. They're usually pretty good at upgrades, but it will still dictate if you're getting an amazing deal or an okay deal. Around 80% is about when I start to notice a little congestion, below that is maximum line speed constantly.

    Example:
This shows a lot of congestion… Probably not the best deal ever.

This shows no congestion at all, you'd be laughing on this PoI…

    • Apparently the Wangara one has only 250 subscribers

      • Is the subscriber amount publicly available?

        • don't think so. phil mentioned the the above comment on whirlpool

        • @TarquinOliverNimrod:

Aw right. Lower numbers is actually an issue sometimes, means your neighbour can literally hog all your bandwidth lol

      • 251 from next month ;)

  • Anyone with Aussie Broadband from Perth on FTTP? What are pings like with them? I'm still with Mungi but not getting good pings.

  • Hmmm, looks like Aussie BB changed their plans a bit. I'm currently on 100/40 500GB paying $80pm. Was thinking of switching to Mungi though because I don't really need 100mb and could be saving $15 month.

  • Similar deal from exetel 50/20 for $59 (but 12 months rather than 6):

    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/397043

Good for those missing out due to being existing customers.

  • It's been fun Telecube, but it's back to Aussie for me - cheers OP :D

  • If only I could get NBN!

  • If I did a trial previously and cancelled, am I still a new user?

  • Seems like a great deal for some… Im on old unlimited data/calls/text plan with optus… Only way I could somewhat justify this purchase would be for 4k content streaming (I can already stream full HD very well, with cellular).
Hmmm, I guess I will have to wait until there is much more 4k streaming content on stan/netflix/Amazon-tv , which I enjoy free atm.
If anyone else has aany suggestions as to why NBN would be of use to me, I would consider it ?
I live by myself, so mobile hotspoting is always available at my home when internet access is required, except for wifi cameras and security and smart home stuff, which I just run off a cheap 6 month data sim and spare phone.

  • Will referrals work with this as well?

    • Nope, either referall or promo code, can’t combine them both any more (use to be able to when they had the free first month and double data for 6 months promos).

  • Wow signed up tonight and instant connection, thanks AussieBB.

  • if they had an ongoing deal/special i would sign up right now. i don't want a deal that only lasts 6 months, as i plan on being a longtime customer.

  • Damn it I connected to Aussie on the 50/20 literally yesterday. If I ask nicely will they let me have the discount do you think?

    • +3

Absolutely not. I haven't seen any sign of anyone getting that done. Have tried myself even before I got connected and even after they sent me an email offering me a better deal, and the answer was still no.

It really leaves a bad impression on an otherwise great provider.

    • No chance.

If you miss entering the promo code or see this offer after you sign up, sorry but no backsies, you've probably chosen to join us because you've already heard about our services.

(This was for the $10 off a month promo but the same thing would apply to this (same as the free modem promo as well)

  • I have a locked in contract with dodo 24 months ADSL2
Can I add Aussie Broadband NBN Unlimited without stopping my contract and ADSL2?

    • Why would you want to pay 2 simultaneous services?

      • Maybe he wants to bridge the two connections??

    • I don't think you can - when you switch to NBN (technology doesn't matter) they disconnect your old service, so if you're on FTTP/Wireless or whatever you won't have a physical phone line to use for ADSL2 any more, and if you're on FTTN they disconnect your line from the exchange or RIM and connect it to the NBN Node, so while you still have the copper line it won't support ADSL2.
If you speak with Dodo they should be able to migrate your service from ADSL2 to NBN, though they may ask that you renew your contract to do so unless they offered/you were on a transition plan (ADSL2 until NBN was available, usually with a modem that supports both technologies).

      • when you switch to NBN (technology doesn't matter) they disconnect your old service, so if you're on FTTP/Wireless or whatever you won't have a physical phone line to use for ADSL2 any more

Incorrect. For FTTP/FW/satellite you can keep your ADSL2 right up till the coexistence period ends even if you choose to connect to the NBN (ie. you can have ADSL on the copper line and a FTTP connection both at the same time).

Once an area goes RFS though you can’t get a new ADSL2 connection, only whatever NBN technology you have available to you.

  • I need a 12/1 or 25/10 unlimited below $50

heck I would take 2-3TB of data even atm

Super happy on my 12/1 1000gb at $35/month with Telecube (i know i know)

Thought I would need more but honestly it is enough for my needs but 25 would be nice.. 50/20 if it drops again in price.

    • 12 and 25 are goners with the new nbn pricing. tc are probably making a loss with the 12/1 service.

      • oh wow really? no 25 even left? are you sure I swear I saw a 25 unlimited somewhere recently.. i think it was like $50/month

Looks like I got lucky then on this 12/1 1TB $35/month deal let us see how long they honour it.

  • Aussie BB has been ok, except for all these promotions since I've signed up for the $5 off for 6 months unlimited deal last month.

  • Currently with ABB (non promo) but the account is under my wife. Can I sign up on my account and then terminate the existing one? I'm on FTTP so they can just activate another Port.

  • Will i get charge if I choose dont connect before a date?

As I am not sure when NBN will be ready, it just say soon

  • Does anyone know which modems (from other ISPs) are able to be used with ABB, or more specifically who locks their modems to their network only? I'd consider changing from TPG but it's only worth it if the HG659 I got from TPG will work with ABB, likewise will be changing my parents away from telstra and it would be best if they were able to keep their existing modem (new smart modem, and one a couple of years old but VDSL capable).

  • I literally just signed up to the free modem ABB deal only an hour ago.
Does anyone have their power modem and can comment on its performance? Or am I better off buying my own and going with this deal?

    Cheers

    • You won’t be able to change the deal you’ve signed up for. Not even people who have pre ordered a few months in advance have been allowed to.

  • +1

I was with Aussie for a month after Buzz closed down and they were ok without being fantastic. Would constantly hit 100/40 even at peak times when I was with Buzz, but Aussie was always around 70-80Mbps and $99 a month(first month free). Now with Skymesh on 100/40 with 500GB but unmetered Netflix. Hit around 90mb during peak, and only $65 a month thanks to the plan match with Telecube.

  • Is the promo also applicable for 100/40 500GB plan?

    • I just checked on that plan and got “Invalid promo/referral code provided”, the price stayed at $85 per month.

  • -1

Just switched to Aussie from Mungi but the upload speeds are so much worse.

    • +2

So I guess the reason for your neg is for serious issues with the retailer or defective product, presumably because you've contacted ABB support and they've told you they can't / won't help?

  • Not a deal, Exetel is the same price not limited to 6 months, with a static IP.

    • +1

Yeah but what’s Exetel’s speed like at 6pm

      • They have good reviews suprisingly

    • +1

If speed and customer service mean nothing when considering if something is a deal or not, 56K dial up is cheaper again.

  • -2

Whats the download limit can i get 2tb a month with 100mbps fttp?

    • Clearly says unlimited

      • Yeah i know but incase i pass this and they slow things down or something.

  • +2

Why do we need to enter our email and mobile phone number to check if ABB NBN is available at our address? If I can't check whether I'm eligible without signing up for spam emails and unwanted phone calls, is ABB really a provider worth considering?

    • You don't, if you click build your own plan you can just enter your address under section one.

    • +1

Yeah I thought the same - kind of stops you wanting to do a quick check

      • Use apptrack's method above, the POI checker or the NBN website itself. Or just use made up details other than your address.

It's not like the old days of ADSL where port availability is an issue and some providers may be able to offer a connection in a given exchange whereas others can't.

If NBN is available in your area then ABB will be able to connect you unless they have a stop sell in place due to being over 80% of their CVC capacity on your circuit.

  • +1

Anyone who's jumped from Mungi - what's the transfer time for FTTN? And does that mean that you'd have a new IP address?
