TV looks like a good buy as a second TV! Kitchen or Toilet TV sorted ahahah just kidding.

      Or as a computer monitor!

  • is the table saw any good?

    • it's worth a go, if you're the market for one. 5 yr warranty is the clincher for me. As well as their 60 day change of mind.

The biggest pain in arss, would be boxing it back up for the return. I'd almost do away with 10% restocking fee , if I could just bring it back, unboxed and wheel the kit in a shopping trolley.

  • Woah, my monitor is bigger than this TV and I want a bigger one

    • My monitor is the same exact size as this TV (well, technically it's slightly bigger as my 22" monitor is 16:10 aspect ratio).

      • 1920x1200 ?

        or 1680x1050 ?

        • 1680x1050. It's 9 years old.

        • @MrZ:

          1680x1050. It's 9 years old.

Dell 2209WA! My one is still going too. But it's actually been replaced once for burn-in. I think it's suffered the same fate now though ^_^

          @CVonC:

Actually it's a HP LP2275w, with S-PVA panel. It came out in 2008, before the 2209WA (which was the first IPS 22").

How can they sell a 56cm TV for $149 when 20 years ago you were looking at $1200 for an equivalent CRT set?

    • Bcoz technology

      • I bought 34cm CRT for $399 in Dec 1992.

        • Well, I got a 51cm Sharp stereo TV in mid-1996 for $1200. There were cheaper 51cm at the time, but they were mono (only 1 speaker).

However, this TV is 22 inches not cm. 22 inches = 56cm.

      • Not really. It's because they're all made in China now, whereas in the 1990s the sets were mostly made in Japan.

    • slowly but surely moving into matrix

  • is that tv size for an elf?

    • When I was a kid I had a 13" TV in my bedroom. A 22" one would have seemed enormous.

  • Will this TV be good enough as a computer monitor?

  • wow !!! supports USB recording as well

worth it without having to buy stb recorder

    • I believe it only does playback, not recording.

      • USB playback
        Program: Pause TV, USB recording

Does both according to the ALDI page.

  • Anyone bought the Philips TV? Opinions? I'm surprised it has only a 2 start energy rating.

    • Visited my local Aldi, and it looks like the pallet hasn't been touched (50+ available).

Don't think many has purchased the Philips TV.

  • Went into my local Aldi to check it out and the two star energy rating has me a little put off from buying the TV. Makes me wonder if there's any other pitfalls despite all the good features. What are the contrast and colour reproduction like, etc.

I think I'll have to wait for some brave OzBargainer to buy & try it and read their feedback first.

Picked up one to replace a 720P similar size in the bedroom. Will report back after setting up on the weekend. The best feature I see is that it has a sleep function.

TV is pretty good picture quality. I didn't wind up using it in the bedroom, as it's smaller than the old 720p and only has one HDMI. It will be perfect in the home gym though.

        • Thanks for the feedback. As long as the picture quality is good like you say then I can overlook the power star rating. From the tech specs the power draw while on standby is negligible and the star rating refers to ten hours of use plus 14 hours of standby per day. Since I wouldn't be using it that long and would unplug when not in use I think the power consumption won't be an issue.

I've noticed they haven't been moving though, so it's probably worthwhile to wait some more anyway and see what kind of price reduction they get to clear them out.

        • Using http://www.energyrating.gov.au/calculator Annual running cost is $14.82 (Kogan 7 star, $139 delivered below) vs $39.04 (Philips 2 star) based on 28.5 c/kWh. Even if you halve its use it's a big difference given the Kogan is cheaper to start with.

They won't reduce the price short term as they are already in a subsequent catalogue for the same price on sale Sat 15th September again for $149! There's also another Philips 24" with only 1366 x 768 resolution for $179 (Bigger TV with lower resolution than the 22"!) Lol

  • Anyone know how the Phillips TV compares to this 24 inch, 7 star energy rated TV for $139 (delivered) for quality/reliability/use?

  • Is this TV any good? Can you connect this TV to your laptop? Is yes, how can one do that? Please share your experience on connecting this TV to laptop as external monitor and it's performance as well…

    • You can connect you laptop to the TV via HDMI. As for performance, it won't be the best when compared to an actual Computer Monitor, since it a TV.

    • Looked like there was a VGA port in the rear also
