Cheap Cheap Cheap DVD Player at Coles ("Nu-Tec" Brand) $14.50

290

My Coles at Reservoir VIC had a whole shelf of these. They are promoted as "2 Channel" DVD players.

No mention is made of being multi-zone.

I do not know the output (not listed on box), but I believe it to be RCA (red, yellow, white) analogue connectors.

It's $14.50, for heaven's sake.

Normal price over the past weeks/months has been $29 each, so I presume this is clearance of an old model.

I did take a photo, but cannot get it off my camera at the moment, sorry.

I know this is cheap and nasty, but for those interested in cheap and nasty, it is the cheapest price I have EVER seen for a DVD player with plentiful supply.

PS - off you go now, before Broden flies down and bags them all !!

PPS - (I'm joking)

I was tempted to buy and resell enough of these things so I could afford to fly to Canberra and buy lots of cheap Pepsi Max cans !!

    • Good price

too bad i have no need for them :(

  • damn……how much are the raw materials worth, $5? the warranty service alone would set them back a pretty penny!
next, Coles will buyout the Nutec company and sell "Select" dvd players! haha!

    • "Select" is the Woolworths house brand, not Coles.

      Anyway, cheapest DVD player ever.

  • GTFO…of the house and go buy one :P I don't need one but figure it might make a good present for someone.

I'm definately hitting up Coles now :) That's going to be a + from me

Scary times when a leg of lamb costs more than a DVD player! Great find!!! :)

Scary times when I was tidying up the other day, and found a receipt for a 512MB compact flash card for $260 !! (and, being the tight arse I was/still am, that was actually good value then !!)

        • +2

          LOL, that's worth 50 cent!

        • +2

Yeah, I must have bought mine a few months later than you when it cost me $180. Still that was cheaper than a bagful of slide film and processing for my next holiday. Now they are almost giving away flash keys with cornflakes.

        • +1

I can remember paying $110 for a 4GB card…or my first digital camera (which was stolen)…cost more in batteries than it would of buying film and processing for my slightly older camera!

Luxury! Back in my day we had a 3 hour walk each way across broken bottles in bare feet, in the snow, on a 45 degree day just to get to the store to pay $65 per Meg of RAM!

That's what my Dad paid for our 386 to go from 4MB to 8MB of Ram. My friend had 16MB and Kings Quest crashed because it couldn't handle that much memory. I'm 32 now, this was when I was in High School, say 1990.

        • +1

I paid $129 for 512Kb (yes, kilobytes) of RAM and thought that was a bargain. Do I win a prize? :-)

        • wow 512Kb of RAM, for $129

        • +1

Cluster, my prize for you is a title that is also the name of a TV show now ….

The Biggest Loser, out of all of us losers !!

Congratulations. Pleas pick up your certificate and badge from the front desk as you leave :)

It gets scarier…I've had those & the 20mb version! :o

Yes, sadly computers & I go waaaaaaay back! :p

Positive for your write up - cheap and nasty description + Broden gag. :D

This DVD player will be guaranteed to work………for at least one movie. Cheaper than the cinema!

  • +1

Hell, it's got warranty, so if something goes wrong…
I paid $800 for my own first DVD player almost 10 years ago. The movies cost about more than the hardware now!

How many DVD players do you peeps have in your households now?
I got 5 standalone players(one fore each TV essentially), not counting my video game consoles/PCs that have ubiquitous DVD playback functionality. Might grab another one when I buy the bread and milk at coles next time.
At $15 bucks it's a throwaway price, like a disposable camera.

  • +2

oops, my bad, homebrand/black&gold etc whatever their cheap line is called!
ps or maybe we should call this 'Broden's Special' or 'Broden's Pick of the week'! lol

I bought a cheap and nasty dvd player from Coles last year for $20… on clearance.
It's still going strong.. it's about 11 months old. It was supposed to be a temporary replacement unit but my ps3 would not play my region 2 dvds from Amazon uk… so I still use it now.
It is multi region (although doesn't say so on the box).
Only thing I hate about it is that the remote control sensor is so weak I always have to get up close to make it work… Great for the couch potatoes as they will be forced to do sit ups from time to time ;p

    • You may have already checked - but try changing the battery. It's probably a cheapie battery too.

    • +1

are you pointing the right end of the remote control towards the DVD player?

  • the only downside to these cheap dvd players is if it dies on you, getting the dvd out is a pain in the arse, ive found that sometimes the cheap nasty dvd players have remotes that are easier to use, than brand name players.

    • +3

No problem - a cheap coles screwdriver will do the trick - make sure its unplugged first - or if impatient you can use a hammer!!

      • +3

I like the idea of a hammer - get the kids involved and tell them it's a pinata

  • May as well go for a drive down to Coles and grab one. Don't have a DVD player on the TV in the study.

Was it Plenty Rd or Spring St?

    • +4

It was the crappy one in Spring Street. They were on the front end of the far right aisle in the store (near toilet paper)..

I'll be stalking you one aisle away (pretending to be reading a newspaper)

      (kidding)

        • +1

Epping line is like Canada is to the US when dealing with the hurstbridhe line, that's why roping trains wait near merri station for the more important passengers!!

        • i dont know how you can stand listening to that song you posted below

        • represent epping… regent to lalor

        • Lalor ftw, baybee.

        • Infernal, I guess that explains why everyone hates Hurstbridge and loves Epping. :)

      • Thanks :P I'll head down there later tonight if I can be bothered!

        • People hate the hurstbridge line?

        • Nearly everyone I know does. I hated it even more when I lived out that way. :P Too many potheads and people who think they're loaded because their income just makes the 6 figures mark.

      • Easy to stalk this target as you already know what she looks like and got her first name.
"Ashlea, where are you?". I'd stalk that.

        • +2

          haha yea

PA System: Ashlea Ashlea where are you, i'm in aisle 13 @ the DVD section, where are you!

        • Hahaha, that would be so creepy, but SO hilarious.

        • LOL

        • Nah - she'll be alright - lucky there are no weirdos here at Ozbargain !!

        • No weirdos? LOL

  • Maroochydore Coles…said no…

Came up as $29, oh well :P

    • ahh, that sucks. I'm gonna have a stab at it 2morrow and will rage if they deny it.

      • The shelf tags at Maroochydore say $29, so no harm no foul. Didn't bother going to Mooloolaba

  • Great price, good deal. Also love the broden reference. Definite positive from me.
