As an android user thats been using bluetooth headphones for years; why are these so expensive? What makes them so good? How does Apple get away with this?

    • +7

Well really, the alternatives are just as expensive
      Jabra Elite 65T - ~$230
      Samsung IconX - ~$200

      • +2

Yeah the cheaper alternatives usually have a wire between the two earphones, like Plantronics Backbeat Go 3 @ $70ish. iPhone users can use those headsets too, it's not like Apple force you to use theirs.

      • Got a pair of jabra elite 65t for $210 from jb. They have some really cool features.

Like airpods, they will pause when you take an ear out, but hey also have a cool noise pass through feature that opens the microphones and allows you to hear your environment for those times you just need to not get hit by a car or in the office (since they are in ear and actually block sound out).

Good upgrade from my jaybird x2s. But wouldn't have paid the rrp of $300

I'm an Android user and honestly I love these. They may be a little expensive but mostly worth it.

Hi. Can I just ask how they integrate with the Android UI. The bloke at work here has them with his iPhone 8 and whenever he holds them next to his phone it automatically shows him battery levels. Really impressive. Can you do that on the Android system/Phone with these so you don't put them on only to find they're flat.

        • Don’t have a pair to test myself, but I believe this is an iOS feature. So no, you won’t be able to replicate that on your phone.

        • I don't think that works the same on Android due to the W1 chip. However, I can check the battery levels on the Bluetooth status on my MacBook when connected and there is also a light indicator in the case to show how much charge is left in the case itself. I presume other OSes would have similar indicators under their Bluetooth devices pane.

        • Don't have the airpods either but I have a pair of cheap ($35) bluetooth earphones and on my Google Pixel 2 I can see their remaining battery level next to my bluetooth indicator whenever their connected.

There is an app called AirBattery that provides this functionality. Does the same thing.

To change the settings for the double taps you do NEED to use a apple product to set it up. But it carries over to Android.

I have mine set up as: Left is play/pause and right is next track.

I love them because I hate with a passion the current trend of ear phones with rubber seals.

        • Battery status is only available from Android 8.1 or get some apps from the playstore.

they look like the crappy headphones that come with iPhones, just minus the cords.

    • Decent quality, seamless process/pairing with Apple products, design to imitate a dental floss.

    • Only if you're in Apple's ecosystem. Otherwise nothing makes sense for Apple's pricing. How much is a USB cable are they selling again?

  • +4

I'd wait till next month to see if they release a new version

    • +2

But they won’t be for $179….
And there’s always a newer version coming out 😜

      • +4

Different prospects: waiting a month to check out the 2nd gen or waiting another 20 months for the 3rd.

    • you always need more than one pair ;)

  • Are SydneyTec an Authorised Retailer?

    • Just looked on the apple website. Couldn't find them!!!

  • +2

Careful, if you buy these you may be accosted by the OzB Fashion Police.

Most aesthetically pleasing out of all available true wireless earphones

  • They’ve updated their website price to $192 if anyone else wants them urgently and is planning on price matching

  • The code I applied is not working on checkout it showed 189

    • +2

Have you used the code previously? Max limit is 3 transactions per account. Also, did you change the location of your account for the eBay US/UK sitewide deals?

Working fine on my account, so it might be one of those issues listed above.

Thanks OP! Can anyone confirm if this is Aussie or import stock?

  • the OZBargainer inside me died a little, looking at the price.

  • Do these work seamlessly with Windows 10 laptops? I have an iPhone as well and would like to use these for both and switch between devices easily.

    • +1

Yes it can be paired with a Windows PC easily.

  • water proof/resistant?
