New Diners Club Companion Card for Citibank Cards (No Forex, Better Points)

1020

Got this update from Ausbt. New companion card available for citibank card holders. Updated - Official link from theblake

Apparently 10,000 bonus points for adding the card (Can only find information on citibank website for new cardholders only -https://www1.citibank.com.au/credit-cards/citi-signature, rest of might miss out).

The great thing about this is the no foreign currency fees. Diners/Discover acceptance is probably the least common of all cards.

Hopefully good addition to people who got the no fee for life cards a couple of years ago.

I'm not 100% on the convertion, but here's a link (Pretty close to current aud-usd rate) : https://m.dinersclub.com/dcimobileweb/action/CurrencyConvert…

Edit (10/6/2023): I've changed the link to the FAQ for the linked diners club card as the old link is now a 404.

  • Does anyone know if the international transactions are included the online transactions? Thanks.

    • what? yes, of course.

Received this card in the mail today. Supplementary cards were mailed separately (but didn't require additional application).
Card only has magnetic swipe, no chip or contactless.
Supplementary cards have different numbers to the primary card.
Enclosed letter says Diners card PIN is same as linked credit card, so hopefully no need to sign when using the card.

    • The PIN might just be for use at ATMs?

Received card today… But can't add it to PayPal. Not option to select diners club.

    • Same, can't add. Although if you could, you'll need to add it under a discover card not diners card. Also can't add to Samsung pay

      • +1

Doesn't work under discover either it automatically defaults to that

        • I tried the PayPal app and was able to get to the last step where you link the card (discover) and it errorred.

My try again tomorrow as I might of had a similar issue with a previous card (there might be an issue with it being newly issued)

        • +1

@Pcoder:still no go for me. I've send a support mail to PayPal to check. I remember when Macquarie came out with their debit cards they had a similar issue, where the prefix wasn't being recognised. Maybe it's the same thing.

This is the reply from PayPal support regarding adding diners card to PayPal.

"Upon reviewing your account, it showed here that the adding of the card ending in XX39 was reviewed by our internal security system. This happens if there is a higher than normal level of risk associated with your activity. This is the reason that you have encountered an error when you tried to add this card on the PayPal account. I would suggest adding a new card aside from this one or contact your card issuer if they can possibly issue you a new card.

The details of your card is not being accepted by the system. It is either the card doesn't participate to our program or some of your card details are incorrect. Please refer to your bank to ask if the card is allowed to Paypal or if there are some card details to be corrected.

    • Does it mean that only Citibank's Diners Club card can not be added to PayPal? Original DC does not seem to have this problem… PayPal's response is a bit vague.

  • Why would you use this card overseas instead of coles mastercard?

    • +2

A lot of us have this card annual fee free.

  • I received this card on Friday and did some transactions but can not check the transaction on my Citi Bank account. Does anyone know how can we track the transaction as well as rewards from this linked card? I have read all information from Citi Bank website but it is not helpful.

    • I tried the same thing. The Diners transactions turn up after a day or two instead of instantly.

      • I can see the transaction now but it seem have an error when one transaction is now appeated twice. Do u have similiar issue?

        • Same happened to me, there is an asterisks on the payment so its still pending, hopefully it will disappear.
Also I'm trying to make more payments and transactions are being declined, happening to anyone else?

        • @Vash1984: i hope so. I already did 3 transaction withour issue. You may be declined because it reach to credit limit? The pending amount decrease the available credit.

        • @zack1502: I got $9000 credit limit so dont think thats an issue.

        • called up citibank and they said the pending payments will drop off. In regards to my payments not working, they put a restriction on my card due to the high amount of transactions. They said I should have received a message but I didnt, it should be working now.

        • @Vash1984: Good to hear this. I feel it is really limited place where accepted Diner cards. Sad!

    • Did you manage to link it to paypal? I just get a cant be done at this time error.

      • Same error here =(

  • has anyone managed to add the Diners Card to paypal?

  • I have a theory, that Paypal doesnt accept this Diners Club card.

  • I can't add the card to Masterpass and PayPal.

    • damn no masterpass either, that sucks.

  • No addition to PayPal?
    No deal for me

  • No luck adding it to PayPal and I can't manually add it to the eBay checkout either (it recognises it as a Diners Club card, but refuses to process it and throws up an error). Looks like it is going to be a severely limited card if these issues can't be resolved!

    • yeah, I think there is some issue with citibank. It has the discover logo on the back so should be able to be processed by the discover system.

      • +1

Yes, like others on this thread PayPal were no help with the issue so the next stop is probably trying our luck with Citibank help.

Just tried Amazon AU and had it recognised, but an error saying the card is not supported. Apparently the statement on the add card page "Amazon accepts all major credit and debit cards" isn't exactly true.

  • Yup, no luck for me either in paypal which is a big shame as that was the main reason i was getting it for, it will basically mean this card will not get much use at all :(. Have people contacted citibank about this, I wonder if its a issue and hence maybe they will rectify it, perhaps it is meant to work but they need to do something on their end.

  • yes perhaps more of us should complain t o CB so they fix these issues. i sent a secure email and they said that will look into it and someone would get back to me regarding paypal but still havent. ref "Thank you for your bringing this matter to our attention and regret any

This is the response from Citibank in regards to not being able to link the Diners Club card to PayPal accounts:

"This is a follow up email regarding our previous correspondence.

We regret to inform you that PayPal is not a merchant that your Linked
Diners Club card can be used with.

If there's anything else we can do to assist you, please let us know and

    • thanks for the update, definitely wont be ordering the diners card then.

    • +1

I received the same response from Citi Chat. Such a limited use card.

  • +2

Hi all, I just found a very cool benefit of this card is that you can link it to WeChat Pay which is very popular in China and some Australian merchants. Especially this Diners Club card has no foreign currency conversion fees!

    • +2

I was able to linked to the Diners Club card but WeChat doesn't support using this card to make payment (Or TopUp WeChat wallet)
So pretty much the linkage is useless

  • 10,000 bonus points for adding the card, has anyone received their points yet?

    • I didn't get any yet.is it for people who already had the other card and not for new Citibank card holders?

  • +3

Can confirm access to miracle first class lounges. Just used it at Bangkok airport

    • Does it work at Bangkok airport only? Have you tried any other lounges?

      • Couldn't tell you, haven't been anywhere else in the last year.

  • I was able to access the Plaza Premium Lounge in Brisbane using the companion card. I then used the card to access the SATS Premier Lounge in Singapore. After looking at my statement I was charged $40 to use the Singapore lounge but nothing for the lounge in Brisbane.

    • The charge for the Singapore lounge later reversed.

  • I was able to use this card virtually everywhere in the Philippines that accepted credit cards. Spent $1k on it so great to get free forex and points.

  • I received a replacement card. It now has a chip and contactless. Haven't tried whether it works. No Apple Pay.

  • So… based on the more recent comments, it looks like lounge access is included with this companion card, even though it's not supposed to be?

    • +1

It looks like this is the case. Those lounges might not be able to tell the difference between a standalone Diners to a Citibank supplementary Diners card.

  • If i already have the citi rewards card, will having the additional diner subject me to another credit card inquiry?

  • Recently found out this is 2 points per rounded $1. So for example, if you spent $10.99, you would only get 20 points (10 points x 2).

PayPal now accepts Diners. No international transaction fees.
This is a game changer when it comes to paying online

    • That’s awesome! Thank you for sharing! Just added mine.

    • Yeah I did the same thing, I got an email from Citi yesterday telling me of it.

Saying that Paypal accepted Diners before, but just didnt work well with Citi Diners card. I was able to add the diners card a year ago but whenever i did it, it messed up my other paypal cards for some weird reason.

    • Don’t think the rate is that good.

      • I think the Premier is two Citi points per dollar spent for on Diners, but they also have a clause on their MasterCard that says it’s only 1 point if you use a third party provider like PayPal so I’m not sure if that also applies to the Diners or not.

Check the above to see how you can get fee free international transactions with standard cc points and additional velocity points.

    • Was that the intended link?

      • It is mentioned a few times within the whole thread

        • Ah yeah so it is. It seemed like a good deal until I read I had to give them my login to my bank account, in return for 1 velocity point for $5 spent.

I can see Bundll would have some good use cases, but not sure it’s worth the risk for me.

      • Yes

    • What’s Uber eats got to do with Diner’s?
Aaahh, I see what you did there:)

  • Any of you got your renewed Diners Club Card withy our reissued Citibank Premier cards (those with original Signature lifetime fee-free holders)?

  • anyone successfully used lounge access on the diners companion recently?

  • Just got told by Citibank on the phone that this card is being discontinued

    • OH crap really? I was worried this might happen.

Actually you are right, I just received the email too. What a shame, I just started using it more . Goddamn NAB!!!!
