Wow, what a great way to start the morning - Seeing this post! Thanks for this contribution, have been wanting to try this game out for some time!

    • +13

Fun fact: it’s made by an Australian developer.

Even more reason to support it! 🇦🇺

Is there some trick to navigating the Aussie Eshop via a browser like this? I'm still trying to learn the ropes of this thing as a Switch newbie.
Seems very confusing compared to steam or the PSN; When I search for Hollow Knight myself I'm getting zero results, and the other games I see don't even have a purchase button either =(

      • +1

It isn't an online store like PSN/XBL/Steam it's a pos shop window with locked doors. It works in the US but not here.

Edit/ holy shitballz it just actually worked, I bought Hollow Knight on the webstore.

        • Hehe, yeah that's what I was wondering. The links provided here seem to actually be legit but not when browsing the Nintendo shop manually.
Was wondering what's up or if there's some sort of hidden way to use this properly.

      • +4

Unfortunately Nintendo Australia only choses to post links to certain games on their website as opposed to having some search function like all the other countries' websites. You can still get to everything if you know the number for the url.

        • I can't remember if I tried this previously but would it be the same number from the us store but with an au prefix?

        • +1

@Where's_That_Cake: US numbers are normally within a few numbers, UK have the same numbers (other than Splatoon 2), so you can look at the UK website, view source on the page look for the 'nsuid' and that should work with https://ec.nintendo.com/AU/en/titles/

@sss333: looks like someone from vooks read these comments and went for a spot of plagiarism

          https://www.vooks.net/australia-might-be-getting-a-web-based…

        • +1

          @Where's_That_Cake: Yeah I noticed that.

I've been posting direct links since mid-June on here now (there are more that I just reported the deal with the link). So if they were paying attention the whole time they could have figured it out much earlier (likely started in May when a bunch of functionality was added).

Also Nintendo Australia since July-ish has directly been linking to certain games.

But other than that Nintendo Australia themselves 2 weeks ago (1 week before that article on Vooks) added a page about purchasing games from the web.

So even in the event they did figure out the method without looking at this post they were quite slow on reporting on it regardless.

@sss333: it's not the first time, I've posted stuff at WP and seen it almost word for word pasted there with no source.

        • @Where's_That_Cake: You wouldn’t happen to know the web link for Splatoon 2?

Great game. I haven't finish it yet.

  • Bought the mario switch from TGG, haven't picked it up yet. Will buy this as soon as I get it!

  • I missed the previous sale!
I’m at work. Gonna go to the car and grab it and ensure I don’t miss out again!

Chill man, 3 days left lol

I don't know how I feel about this trend of making games hard but not always thinking if it makes things more fun. I want to like this game but the sheer amount of time you need to put in to make little progress is a bit off-putting.

    • I have never been able to get through the Soulsbourne games despite enjoying them immensely, I tend to give up half way.
On the other hand, I have 100%'d (Not 107% and 112% yet unfortunately) Hollow Knight and enjoyed the story and lore very much.
Sometimes a game just might not be for you though.
There are other Metroidvania's such as Iconoclasts, Ori & The Blind Forest and Guacamelee (which aren't as difficult as Hollow Knight) that you may enjoy.

      • Would love Ori to come to Switch but its made by Microsoft :(

PC or Switch? I have a PS4 controller for my PC.

    • Easy. Do you have time to game on PC? Or are you always on the go?

      • I've got time to game on the PC! I assume you're saying buy on PC which is what I was leaning towrads

      • Is this game playable on a PC keyboard/mouse? I am keen to try this game but have no console controller on the PC.

        • My 2c. I played it with Keyboard, Logi F710 and the switch controller and the switch pro controller was my fav.

        • My 2c is keyboard felt more natural to me as I played a lot of platformers with keyboard :)

  • Having an absolute blast with this game, I'm actually a bit sad as I've nearly finished it. Difficulty wise its tough in places but never unfair, though in the later stages its sometimes difficult to remember where you're supposed to go as the map is huge. Check a walkthrough guide if you don't fancy loads of backtracking, no shame in that. And the soundtrack and visuals are really lovely.

Reminds me for obvious reasons of one of my favs shovel knight but I see I can't play this one on my Wii u :(

    • Do you have a Wii U Pro Controller? If so, you can use it on your PC and play Hollow Knight on that. http://www.wiinupro.com/
Also, if you have a PS4 or Xbox 360/One controller, you can use that on your PC as well.
Hollow Knight's specs aren't very demanding either.

I happily bought this at full price to support the Adelaide-based development team.

    • Made the purchase just for this comment.

    • I was even happier to support the Adelaide based team at 34% off.

Only switch game I've bought at full price. I was very happy. Until now :( my $6…

It's a great game. Well worth it for $11! There's free DLC coming soon too I believe

    • Godmaster DLC is out today!

Where can u buy Mexican eShop credit from? I use us Canada and Japan but can't workout the Mexican.

  • This is a great game, I recommend to people who own a switch for sure.
Game of the year for me, on the switch

I think the most important thing about this post is that it highlights that Nintendo Australia finally did something and we can now actually buy Switch games with just a web browser which is something that other countries have been able to do for a long while!

Thanks Nintendo Australia, we now know that you actually are capable of doing things other than taking in warranty claims.

If you're getting this for PC, it's slightly cheaper (AU $12.89) on GOG than on Steam, and the GOG version is DRM-free: https://www.gog.com/game/hollow_knight

    • cheers, will add it to the description!

  • +1

Damn, that Mexican price is tasty!!

  • As others have said, it's worth noting that this gem is also an Australian game. Support the local scene!

  • Developed in Adelaide! Cracking game, great on the Switch (I have a killer PC but like to play on the go). Well worth the price.

  • Awesome game. Bought this last night for full price.

  • This is a great game. Still stuck on the Knight level…..

  • Shame you can't buy on switch online. I'll buy it later tonight

Would this be too complicated for a 5 year old? Looking for some games for a 5yo to play on TV with a 360 controller connected to a NUC.

    • +2

I wouldn't recommend this game for a 5 year old. Way too hard.

      • -2

That’s exactly what they need! Games way too easy for kids IMO these days.. :)

    • Definitely. Also it'd probably be a bit too scary

  • I was about to upvote this because I bought the game as a result of this post. I now realise it was posted by my mate caprimulgus. If I upvote this will it be considered "artificially inflating the vote count"?

    • ^ Probably due to same IP address (we work at the same place).

Thanks op, was reading reviews yesterday and thought “will wait for sale”…. TA DAAA

  • Man, I've only got $17 or so left after that e-shop card sale recently. Thinking of holding up my credits for Stardew Valley (hopefully on sale next time) or just use the rest for this game.

    Already have like Dead Cells…hmm

    • -2

Honestly that game (SDV) was a let down after all the hype. It was like a soulless Animal Crossing.

  • +1

Anybody tried purchasing from Mexico? How do you do it?

    • Switch your region in mynintendo preferences. You need to have a zero balance of credit in your account to do so though.

      • Yeah but then you need a Mexican PayPal and a valid way to fund it.

  • -2

    This is OzBargain, not MexicoBargain

    • Doesn't matter where the bargain is. Bargains for Australians, even if it's in space.

  • Purchased on Switch. Thanks :D

  • +1

Played it for an hour after deliberating for a week whether to buy it or not and I can honestly recommend this game. It's great.

    • was just about to reply to your comment and ask whether it was worth getting this game.

btw, don't know why you got neg'd, was a fair enough comment about a game you didn't like.

      • Yeah like I said it's really great. The videos I watched on it don't do it any justice.
