  • Howdy,

I'm looking at a 10.1 android tablet, but will mainly be used to read pdfs and highlight text so would like to use a stylus.

Has anyone got experience with the lenovo with a stylus? Am also looking at the Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 which is $276 shipped in this sale.

    I'd appreciate any feedback

    Thanks

    • +2

Haven't used a stylus with the lenovo tab 4 plus, but it's a nice quality tablet with a very nice screen, good battery life and powerful enough for most. I use it for pdfs when cooking and it works pretty well just takes a bit longer when text searching through a 400mb pdf file compared to using a pc.

    • +3

You can also consider this Samsung Galaxy Tab A 10.1 with S Pen and 4G for AU $424.15.

      • +3

Definitely this. An active stylus is definitely the way to go. You'll give up on a passive stylus.

        • +2

Unless you need one for a specific feature, e.g. drawing, you'd be paying extra for something you wouldn't use. Most people I know, myself included, haven't used the stylus once the novelty has worn off.

  • Nice deals.. Thanks Hamza đź‘Ť

  • Is kindle paperwhite the latest generation?

    • The SKU (B00QJDU3KY) on the eBay post is the latest gen, so most likely yes.

  • +1

Why on earth would you want a glass back to a tablet?

    • Probably Wireless charging?

      • It does not support wireless charging.

        • +4

Then it goes back to the question "Why on earth would you want a glass back to a tablet?"

        • @temptingdeals: got same question here too, 'Why on earth would you want a glass back to a tablet?"

        • +2

          @Smokey010:

It's purely to look nice. Which it does.

But yeah, you 100% need to factor a case into your purchase.

        • someone on youtube confirmed it's not glass back although it does feel like glass.

        • @pork chop:

Thank god cause that would make it heeeaaavvyyy.

        • @encoderboy:

It's purely to look nice. Which it does.

I feel like this is quite obvious, but clearly some are struggling to comprehend it.

        • @Lorindor: I'm sure a car made completely of glass would look nice too but I think you'd be asking the same question…
          Form over function anyone?
I am however pleased to hear that in this case, it's apparently not actually glass.

        • @Jazqer:

I'm sure a car made completely of glass would look nice too but I think you'd be asking the same question…

A tablet can't be driven at speeds of up to 100km/h, so whilst it may be impossible to think of a world where a car with a glass chassis exists, I think the original question regarding this device was just a tad exaggerated.

  • +1

I bought the lenovo tab 4 plus 10 for about $14 more last week and its really good for this price. Even last week, its was getting out of stock in most areas. I picked up the last one in Blacktown area. So better rush if u want one. Shipping is $8 extra. Even then its good price. Its really thin and looks premium.

    • any issues hardware or software wise?

      • +1

No issues at all. I put in 64gb evo card as well with kids movies on it. Lite games ok to run as well. Camera is Ok and battery is good. Its not slow and does not lag in normal use. If any issues u can always get back to TGG. But u will definately need cover as the glass and aluminum looks really fragile.

      • +1

Pretty close to stock Android. Minimal OEM bloat, and still being updated.

I've been very happy with the hardware, but I don't do extensive gaming on mine. Great screen, build quality feels very good.

I replaced a Nexus 9 with this, and it's better in every measurable way.

      • Widely reported wifi issues, especially on 5Ghz. I had to disable 5Ghz and use 2.4Ghz exclusively otherwise the wifi dies after a while and you have to turn it off and on again.

I have several other 5Ghz devices that work without issue on my router.

        https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-Android-based-Tablets-an…

The title of the last one says Tab 4 8 Plus, but it's the same hardware with a smaller screen.

Issue has been around for a long time and seems to have happened after an update. Lenovo show no signs of fixing it.

I raised a ticket through support and they basically told me to return it and get a refund :(

It's a shame because it's a really nice tablet, but wifi issues are a deal breaker. I've hung onto it in hope of a fix, but I'm losing patience.

        • is 5ghz that big of a deal
2.4 gives u more range anyway

what are you doing on a tablet that absolutely requires 5ghz

        • @furythree:
File sharing, not wanting to be sharing radio bandwidth with your neighbours?

        • @NeBlackCat: fair enough but the neighbour bit only comes into play in the cross over areas of your house

even though 2.4ghz is long range. after it gets through all the walls of both houses. its a very low bar signal that you pickup from your neighbours (unless you live in an apartment or something). so the interference should be minimal

any way to roll back updates?

        • @furythree:

Your wifi gear will detect packets from your neighbours on the same frequency range, regardless of "strength", and will hold back its own transmissions until they stop. That's how wifi works - it's a shared medium. You and your neighbours are basically on the same network (well, collision domain) even though you can't decode each others traffic. It's not like two people shouting, where you can still pick up the louder one if the other one is lower volume.

So, the longer the range, the greater the "interference", the less bandwidth you get on your own network.

802.11a(c) is much better from that perspective, cos it doesn't travel as far.

          That's my understanding anyway.

And I forgot to mention interference with Bluetooth. My Mi Box keeps dropping out if I have it transmitting audio to BT speakers that's coming from 2.4ghz wifi. Fine on 5ghz.

        • @NeBlackCat: ah fair point, didnt realise it behaved that way

that being said, i used AC, and i checked that im using a different band to the neighbours

doesnt avoid the collision scenario you mentioned i guess. i have zero wifi issues thankfully

this tablet is going to become a youtube-kids device anyway so doesnt really matter lol

        • @furythree:

Nothing particularly, but if it's on there it should work.

I can only get around 50Mbps on 2.4Ghz whereas 5Ghz will max out my 100Mbit link.

Some routers, such as the google one will use the same SSID for 5Ghz and 2.4Ghz so you don't get a choice of which one to connect to, meaning that if it connects to 5Ghz you will get issues.

    • wait all of my local stores are out of stock

does that mean delivery still has stock or what?

      • Yes, just select delivery and pay $8 extra. But this option may get out of stock as well.

        • ok just ordered
          here goes

last time i ordered the logitech mx master, and took 6 weeks to deliver cause my "local designated store" didnt have stock
even though a different good guys had stock. they assign online orders to a local store and their policy was to not ship things out until that store had stock

had to complain on facebook before they did anything. it was so stupid

        • No idea on this, but i ordered knifes(i think) with delivery and it came from Vic.

  • I've had a Lenovo Tab 4+ 10 for ~ 6 weeks now, and have been very happy with it. Excellent price for it!

Great quality screen, good build quality, and snappy hardware.

I agree with others though - the glass back, while it looks great, means you simply can't use it without a case. It has almost no friction with the bare glass back. I've watched mine, in horror, go from rest on a flat desk, to drift itself untouched onto the floor.

Fortunately no damage to mine, but this happened in literally the first 10 minutes I'd had it without a cover on.

    • If it's glass back, it's likely to have cracked.

      • +2

It hasn't (I just checked again), but thanks for your concern ;-)

Just tested both front and back resting on a flat surface, and neither side have enough friction to hold it entirely still.

Great tablet.. just, seriously, use a case with it.

    • where do they sell cases for this

      • +1

Ebay. Just search the right model number (tab 4 10 non-plus is a different form).

    • +3

How can your tablet be at rest on a flat surface and then suddenly move on its own? You broke Newton's first law of motion, not the glass back on the tablet.

Every object will remain at rest or in uniform motion in a straight line unless compelled to change its state by the action of an external force.

      • You broke Newton's first law of motion

        Is that covered by ACL?

      • Invisible slope?

      • oops there goes gravity

      • Broke Newton's law!? Stop criminal scum!!!

  • How this tablet for gaming can it run any 2016-2018 3D games at all?

    • I play PubgM on my Tab 4 8". Lowest graphics and medium frame rate. Does the job. Screen resolution is the downer, though. The Tab 4 10 plus should do it a bit better, but I don't have one, so I can't test it.

  • I bought one of these. Overall I'm very happy with it.
Exclusively used for emulators and movies while travelling for work.

    Cons:
    It's heavy

    Pros:
    Screen looks great.
    USB-C
    No bloatware
    Speakers exceeded expectations

    lol at the listing:

    RAM: 16GB

  • is this kindle any good?
4g is enough to store a lot of books?

    • Depends on the size of the books, it will be something like 1000-2000 books.

    • It's a decent ebook reader: quick, clear text. You can go somewhere like JB Hifi and try one out.

If you plan to use the light at night, it's more bluish than that of the Kobo Clara - so can potentially affect your sleep.

4gb is plenty. Ebook sizes vary greatly but you'd easily fit 1000s - but whether you want to or not is another thing altogether. Personally I find it more convenient to keep the number of books low, so it's easier to pick something.

      • thanks.
so.are you saying it is not a good ebook for night/low light reading?

        • Some people are bothered by the bluish light and some aren't. I would just use a lamp with a warm light instead if I had the kindle.

I went with the Kobo Clara HD instead because I like making the light more orange. It was $182 at JB Hifi including a $25 Kobo store voucher, so a bit more expensive.

        • I think it's still great for low light - the light does turn down very low. I prefer it to a yellow light. It's personal preference really.

      • doesnt android have night mode now

        • Yes, android apps have had night mode for years. I used to use Moon+ reader for that in 2012 on my android tablet.

We're talking about ebook readers though - those with e-ink, and backlit with lights.

        • @RJK:just got my tablet today

build quality and specs and performance are fantastic. very happy with this

          but no night mode lol

        • @furythree: Lots of options. Individual ebook apps will have night mode, or there are ways to get it through the hidden dev mode or System UI Tuner of android, or you can get third party apps with various solutions: e.g. CF.lumen, f.lux, or Twilight.

how is this compare to the Samsung SM-T580NZWAXSA Galaxy Tab A 10.1 Wi-Fi 16GB?

  • How is the plus 10 compared to the Teclast T10? Currently looking at another tablet to replace a Chuwi Hi10 for media consumption. Windows interface is too clunky for this purpose.

    • I own chuwi hi8 and hi12. They both are good for the price, but this one is better. Teclast has heating issues with causes cpu to trottle. Moreover with GST they come to about same. I bought chuwi because they came with intel, but not anymore. But these chinese tabs have poor build QA. Both tabs usb ports have become loose and hi12 usb is completely broken. The windowd part is not useable anyway.

  • 2 questions. Will email still provide the pre discounted price on invoice ($299) and secondly, will adding a $1 item qualify it for TRS?

    • The TGG invoice you get with the item will be for $299.

      Not sure about TRS sorry.

    • +3

Following on with Hamza's answer, yes, if you add a $1 item you will be eligible for TRS. As long as you take both purchases and the invoice to the TRS counter.

TRS only requires all purchases in total to be above the $300 threshold, they don't even need to be in the same transaction.

  • please add "android" tag

  • Anyone getting an error while adding the code?

  • The website says Micro USB connections, is this correct or is it USB-c as in description?

  • -2

Yeah it’s heavy. Tab s2 is better. iPad Pro even betterer

    • s2 is soooooooo old
remember i sold it like after 1 week

      • I meant lighter. It’s 300g and Lenovo is heavy almost 500g

    • I own it. It really is heavy. Used to have an Xperia Z4 tab which was a lot lighter.
Other than that, this is way better than the Tab S2 or iPad Pro.

      • iPad Pro much better in every way

        • +2

I hate my Ipad Pro. It's hard to navigate. Only good thing is the battery life.

        • +1

Yeah nah. This tablet can do a lot more than the iPad pro.
The iPad is only better if you're locked up in Apple's walled garden.

  • is the 8" tablet any good for flying dji mavic drone?
ipad minis are expensive and a few years old since released

  • -2

I don't understand how is that a cheap deal?

    • can you find the same model cheaper than this? there's plenty of cheap tablets less than $100 if you wish.

    • +1

Go ahead and find it cheaper - u can not - it’s the cheapest price here so it’s a deal

  • -4

All tablets are now sold in bins in supermarkets in Europe, in America, many supermarkets have them next to mandarins.
Tablets no longer command the technology status as it once used to. It is now resigned to spots where toasters and kettles sit.

Unless it comes with 4 Gee, then it will be under lock and keys in Harvey Normans.

  • +2

No Paperwhite stock in all of Sydney, gotta pay $5.06 postage. Comes to $140.21.

    • Same, but bought it anyway.
Using Cashrewards you get $3.18 cashback so the shipping cost is somewhat minimized.

  • +1

I saw Lenovo have released a new range of Android tablets in the USA, I'm sure they'll make it out this way in time for Xmas. They are essentially updated versions of these with an 'E' in front (so Lenovo E7, E8 and E10 etc).

I'll prolly wait and see what's on offer closer to xmas, I think even better options might be had on this existing range now that these new ones have been announced, they'll want to shift the stock soon. The best is yet to come! Ozbargainers wait it out!

    • Thanks for the heads up, I like what the new tablets have to offer, think I'll sit on this purchase for now.

  • Glad I picked up my Lenovo p8 plus ages ago…. Been using regularly for reading and comics….

    • i also have the p8, but this looks so much more amazing, same specs except
      4000mah vs 7000mah !
also the one in here has no sim input

  • +1

Thx op, been eyeing on this model for a while.

  • My galaxy tab S2 charge port just broke. Thanks to Samsung making the unit so difficult to open it's not worth repairing so just picked up the Lenovo.

    • This was one of the deciding factors for me — the USB-C port.

  • The last time this deal was on I was able to get a price beat through office works. I cant fin the receipt but I got $12ish dollars off the sale price.
I had to go to two separate OW stores before they would honor it though.

A minor issue with this tablet is the file manager is called CZ Filemanager (look it up in app store). It has ad's that are full page pop ups and can prevent you from adding attachments through emails. The app can only be disableed and not uninstalled. I would recommend finding an alternative as soon as you buy it to save yourself the frustration of dealing with this file manager.

  • +1

Not good. They offered me a demo unit or else refund, I choose the latter. Giving me some BS that they wont restock this blah blah. I even bought some accessories for it. Not happy!

  • Was looking at this tablet which was priced at $299 last week at The Good Guys, now they've marked it as clearance and increased the price to $399…
