  • With ebay US 15%, it is $416. Good deal!

    • $407.15 from qd_au

  • But is this phone any good? Anyone got one?

    • +1

Heaps of people have one. Read some of the comments: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/product/nokia-7-plus

    • +1

yep i've got one. it's great.

      • Were you able to convert from the Chinese version?

        • +1

ah sorry i got mine from qd_au, came with the international ROM

        • Yup. Had to pay usd5 to get the bootloader unlocked.

        • @aaronbaron: >Had to pay usd5

Did you have to or did you pay someone to do a fairly simple procedure?

          • @Diji1: It probably is a simple procedure. Just that no one else knows how to do it.

        • @aaronbaron: from where can I get this done, please?

          • @El Cap: I contacted hikari_calyx directly from XDA.

        • @Diji1: It didn't work for me :) Not quite sure why…

    • +3

I got one from the previous deal. Nice phone. But I am not able to convert from the Chinese version :(

    • Great phone at the price! It's fast and responsive. I have just used my new one for 2 months around Europe & Singapore with much use of Maps & Apps every day without any issues. Used with a 3 Mobile Roaming Sim from SimsDirect deal a while back, which also worked well in 4 countries using various networks. (Note, mine was local buy, not Chinese one)

    • +2

Been using this phone for 4 months now. While it is an excellent phone overall there are a few minor issues
      1.No built in FM radio
      2.No LED notification light
      3. Occasionally the white balance shifts to the warmer side while taking photos.
Again these are only minor nitpicks. I would highly recommend this phone.

  • If anyone owns this, have you had any issues with the headphone jack and speakers that have been reported?
I'm looking for a new phone to replace my LG V20 with a decent sound performance but better battery and am concerned about running into issues like this.
    Thanks :)

    • +3

I have a V20 and am tired of waiting for Oreo OTA and we will never see Pie, the 7 Plus is what i'm looking at , has NFC, band 28, comes with Oreo, they now have Pie for it, and it's android one, and updates are OTA from Google,

Hassle is if this comes with Chinese ROM flashing to global …really just want something that I put a sim into and enjoy, so my decision is get this and flash, or pay an extra $120 for local stock (warranty and charger for AU) , or wait till a better deal,

      • +6

Android One does not have OTA from Google. Again, Google is handing out update to Nokia who will provide OTA update. Nokia does not have Pie, they will next month. Google Pixel and Pixel 2 lines are the only phones that have Pie and Google OTA. If you want Google Android, you buy Google phone. If you want as close to Google Android as possible, Android One is a program supported by Google but is NOT provided by Google. It's up to company like Nokia to keep up with the updates, not Google. Also, Google is purposely holding back updates to Android One at least a month late to guarantee Google Pixel is the fastest to receive update.

I had a toss up between this and Google Pixel 2. I went with Pixel 2 for the camera and for the obvious reason: Android One is not Google guaranteed, only supported in parts by Google. The Pixel 2 will receive fastest update, and has THREE years of software update along with 3 years of security update. Android One is promised 2 years of software update.

        • Thanks for the long explanation.

But what's so special about the new OS.
Any far more advantages over the current ?

        • @lovepub: No, not really. Pie is mostly subtle improvements (and some drawback as well), but it's still free. Say comparing to Samsung, I also have a J5 Pro which is 2017 model and still stucks on Nougat. Samsung usually do 2 big updates, Oreo is still in testing and Pie maybe promised sometimes in 2019/2020. At least for a $264 phone it has Band 28 and NFC as well as Samsung Pay, and yes it's Australian stock.

The thing is, most people singing praise of Android One for OS and security update because they believe it's Google providing them straight to users, which is wrong. Even Nokia is saying 7 Plus getting Pie first next month, and some older Nokia Android One models, will get Pie LATER before the end of the year.

        • @Bigboomboom: That said though, i feel more confidence with Nokia pushing out the updates in a timely manner than Xiaomi even if they both are on Android One.

    • nope no issues

    • +2

This might sound crazy… but I wonder if those with headphone issues are pushing the plug in far enough? I mean, mine is super tight - much tighter than any phone I've owned - and if it's not pushed in with a bit of force until you feel a little click, it crackles. But it actually makes a really good connection if used right.

    • +1

Haven't had any issues with the headphone jack but the speaker doesn't get that loud and the screen could be better in sunlight but it's a really solid phone

  • +14

I will be hesitate to buy from Joybuy. I bought a phone couple of months ago and it became unresponsive. They refused to provide any support for my problem.

    • +6

agreed. i had to return a phone and the hoops they made me jump through was ridiculous. still have not received refund

      • +3

I had the same issue - they wanted a video of the phone that was broken. I replied that i couldnt video it as it was the phone! I opened a paypal case and the was the easiest thing to do.

Send one email to them and reply that you will open a paypal case. Then actually do it. Do not mess around wasting your time with thier support. THey will make you jump through hoops for no end and no outcome.

        • +1

Did you get a response from Joybuy after you opened the paypal case?

  • +5

better wait till they launch one with PureView camera(s) again as they just got this techs back from Microsoft (from 10 year deal)

    • +1

      This.
The Lumia 1020 was mind blowing for its time.
Even the 950 range did great photos - back to back with SWMBO's S7 it was still the killer deal in low lighting situations - bl@@dy thing could see in the dark.
Even now - W10M just seems such a more complete ecosystem than Android 8…ah well…

      • +3

Windows 10 Mobile really was a fantastic OS, it's just a shame it never got the marketshare it deserved :(

They should've gone with the plan of making Android apps available on the Windows phone platform that they were playing with behind the scenes.

        • +2

Driving in the car and being able to tell Cortana to read text messages and reply to them was pretty awesome. Made me feel like David Hasselhoff. Even other people driving in the car were impressed.

        • @cannedhams: I am still flabbergasted that this is not a feature on Android. It was one of the best things about Windows Phone 10.

        • @Todes Angst: Hey Google read last message.
Hey Google reply to person I'll be there soon
It's not as smooth but it works

  • +1

I was considering upgrading to this from a Sharp Aquos S2 simply for the bigger screen. It's like a Xiaomi Redmi 5 plus and the Aquos s2 had a baby. At double the price of an Aquos S2 however I don't think it's worth it.

    • The S2 is a similar price. Whatever you paid in the past is a sunk cost/gain. You could probably sell it for a profit now.

  • +7

I have Nokia 7 plus already for a month. Great phone for it's price (I bought locally for ~550 AUD). Decsent spec and nice build/feel. I really like it for battery life. Usually it is ok to charge it once per few days. No issues so far with speakerphones, headphone jack. The only issue that I experienced is that sometimes (but really occasionally, once per week or so) the phone become stuck for few seconds. Hopefully this will be fixed in next update. I installed google pixel camera mod and photos are pretty good.

  • Will it work for price match officework??they stock this ?

  • Anyone have any idea how these pair with Apple AirPods?

  • +1

I have had mine for 2 months now, paid $420. It is not super exciting but there is nothing wrong with it either. The worst thing was to get Bluetooth going, it kept stopping and restarting audio output. Somehow managed to overcome that for both music and audiobook players that I use. Funny enough but I got it because of NFC but I never got around to configuring Android Pay or whatever it is called. A minor annoyance is the screen brightness when outside, it does not want to go up in bright conditions, but I have not looked into that. Only one thing feels as a downgrade after a Xiaomi phone - incoming forwarded calls from my work phone are not recognized as forwarded, but that must be an OS problem, not that specific phone model.

    • incoming forwarded calls from my work phone are not recognized as forwarded, but that must be an OS problem, not that specific phone model.

Unlikely, as Xiaomi and Nokia both run Android

    • I haven't had the Bluetooth issue but I can confirm that the outside screen brightness isn't the best

Just ordered from QD_AU. $431.10 after 10% off from LOVEIT ebay code. 426.80 after 1% Cashrewards.

Great phone for the price, unbeatable value IMO.
Have had one for roughly 3 months now and here's my thoughts:
    - Cameras are pretty good and the google cam mod makes pictures noticably greater and is just behind the flagships in terms of image quality.
    - Battery life is awesome and can easily last 2 days with moderate use.
    - Screen gets bright and the 1080p res is still crisp while allowing for more SoT over using a 1440p panel.
    - Software updates (in the form of bug fixes and security patches) every month and next month android pie is coming! This month's update fixed some laggy animations and apps now load faster!

Those are some things i've noted about my experience with the Nokia 7 plus. If you have any other questions about this device feel free to reply.

    • +1

Have you noticed any flaws/cons or is there anything you think that's missing from it?

      • +3

Notification LED! for me but besides that, it's exceeded my expectation. Battery life is amazing.

        • +1

wow makes me really want to buy this… unfortunately my current phone still works fine 😂

        • Yeah definitely you really miss the notification LED when it's not there I keep staring at mine waiting for a blink that's not coming

      • +2

i'd say something missing that springs to mind is wireless charging, but many flagships like the OP6 don't even have that

  • +2

Wouldn't the Nokia 8 Grey Import be better?

    I.e. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/192351914274

    • Nokia 8 has worse camera.

      • Surely there can't be a huge difference, I mean performance wise the Nokia 8 would top this, no?

        • +1

Yes, no doubt. The SD 835 is better than SD 710, which is better than SD 670 which again is better than SD 660. So at least 3 tiers higher on food chain. The problem is, Nokia 8 Camera is really worse.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco is similar to 7 Plus in terms of camera, but that is so overpriced.

        • @Bigboomboom: Cool, thanks for the info. I had my eye on the Sirocco thinking it was the normal Nokia 8. Done some googling and thought I'd get thw Nokia 8 ovee this.

I really have my eye on the P2P Pro, I hope a deal on that comes soon!

  • Can I claim TRS with it?

  • They seem overpriced for the spec.

    • +5

The 660 is no slouch, the build quality is impeccable, and the screen is gorgeous

      • When I played around with the phones in JB, I kind of found the 6xx a little laggy in screen refreshes compared to the 8xx.

  • +2

I have this phone - I usually don't take that good care of my phones (I haven't shattered a screen yet, but I do drop my phone sometimes), so I got a case for this one. This phone is also quite slippery if you have dry hands, due to the ceramic back, and most cases will help with that.

I have used this case for quite a while: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Imak-360-Protection-Set-Tough-TP… (IMAK case)

    • matte surface (the option I chose) - doesn't get grimy like some smooth gel type phone cases do
    • has corner bumps which lift the phone off the surface by about 1mm, so you can place it face down on most clean surfaces without worrying about scratching the front of the display.
    • can press the volume/lock buttons quite easily

There weren't many cases out at the time I bought the case, so you may still want to shop around to see what's on the market now.

The only things I miss from my moto z play:

    • Fingerprint sensor on the back. I prefer it on the front, so you can unlock it easier while it's face up on the desk. The body would be longer if that was added, though.
    • No wave hand over phone to wake the display (moto only feature?)
    • No shake for flashlight (moto only feature?)

The screen is IPS, but I actually prefer to OLED displays (at the same resolution), as the pentile of OLED displays makes the effective resolution smaller/more blurry for reading text.

    • +2

I thought the Moto shake-flashlight feature was great, and you can actually replicate this feature with the app: Gravity Gestures on googleplay. Works on my xiaomi phone quite well

      • +2

I tried a different app "Shake Flashlight" which had more installs (1million), and it does indeed work, even with the screen off. I'm mainly worried it would drain battery life EDIT: android actually notified me "this app is using battery"…probably doesn't use much but I don't want the feature that badly

The 'gravity gestures' app doesn't seem work when the screen is off (it says "use proximity sensor to use gestures when phone is off" but I can't get it to work)

The moto phones probably have dedicated hardware or OS software for shake detection/other moto things so it doesn't drain the battery.

        • +1

fair enough, yeah gravity gestures does seem to be very hit and miss when screen is off. In my experience, it hasn't really drained my battery noticeably. Well, thanks for the app suggestion :P

  • I'm thinking to buy the phone and need a feature -zoom in/out to read SMS easily. Could someone have the phone confirm this feature please? Thank you

    • It has this little symbol in the bottom right hand corner - a man with arms spread. When activated it creates an orange outline around the screen and then when you tap somewhere you zoom in into this area. Feels awkward to use, I wish I could get rid of him.

      • What I mean is to use 2 fingers to zoom in an SMS for magnification. Can I do it on Nokia 7 plus? Thank you

  • This or the Google Pixel XL?

  • This is coming up at $383 for the 4GB model before GST.
