Really solid deal for an RX 580, even a 4gb. Comparable performance to a 1060, for a lot cheaper.

Enjoy!

  • is ebay plus just the free shipping? normal ebay gets it for 263?

    • +1

Ebay plus is for free shipping, so non ebay plus members would get it for $278.20 delivered.

yep cool. going to see if AMD drivers are decent on linux before i pull the trigger.

edit: bought, libre drivers are meant to be really good

        • I have the Rx 480 on Fedora 28. Using the in-kernel drivers and support is great. Try to get the latest kernel and mesa versions you can they are always improving support.

    • eBay Plus gives you access to free shipping. Without eBay plus, it $15 Postage which brings the total to $278.20.

wouldn't a 8gb version for just over $300 be better?

    • Would like to know this too!

    • +3

This should be fine for a few years if you're committed to 1080p.

    • +1

As always: Maybe (Nuance below :P )

A few factors come into play, mainly what programs/games you'll be using and what resolution your monitor(s) is at.

Some games you'll see a massive difference in performance between the higher and lower Memory versions - other games there will be almost no difference.

With such a little price difference I would generally recommend going with the 8GB as most current gen games absolutely gobble up graphics memory like it's going out of fashion, ESPECIALLY at higher resolutions.

      • What would you say about a 1200p monitor?

        • +1

Won’t make a difference, it’s only like a ~10% difference in pixel count.

    • +1

Vram performance is negligible. Depends on the performance of the pc overall and the specific game/application.

      • +2

But surely, more VRAM helps in loading textures etc?

      • +1

        Vram performance is negligible

If you're trying to say it's not important that is incorrect.

        • No, just that you get diminishing returns, for gaming.

I play fortnite the 8GB version of this card on 1080p (at over 200fps and it only uses 2.5 GB)

    • Yep… exactly my thoughts. I went for the 8Gb OC M2 for $319 delivered.

Good read on the RX cards here:

      https://www.pcworld.com/article/3197885/components-graphics/…

For $50, I reckon the upgrade is worth it.

      • I grabbed this one also, I've been running dual 1440P monitors on my 7970 for 3 years now and the old girls fans are on their last legs, but the 3 bonus games is what sold me on it as i'll probably resell the keys and recoup $60 or so.

Note that the 4GB version has some other differences I believe. It's not alot but it's not exactly the same with less memory.

"Keep in mind that the cards with 8gb samsung memory actually run at a higher frequency by default. So even if you don't need the 8gb of memory, 2000mhz is still faster than 1750mhz"

  • Is this better than 1060 3gb? But same performance as 1060 6gb?

    • Yep, should be around 10% better than the 1060 3gb on average, and pretty much on par with the 1060 6gb. This depends on the games you play, as some perform better on different hardware, but it's a good average.

    • Yeh, its much more solid than the 1060 3gb variant, its closer to the 6gb variant. It's a solid pick for this price, if my brother didn't give his 1070 for free I would have definitely got this.

  • Any good for 1440p? Mostly racing games? F1 2018 and Assetto Corsa Competizione when that comes out and project cars 2

    • No, you should have a 1070 for 2560x1440.

But it may suffice if your happy with low and medium settings.

      • Who neg'd your comment? I thought it is good advice. I know 1070 is better but also costs more. If 580 is comparable, why not at that price!?!

    • Read this Craysee.

For 1440p an RX580 8Gb variant would be fine.

I have my old GTX 970 OC version… I wonder if it is worth the upgrade or maybe I just wait until mid-2019 and get something there.
I reckon it is still a fairly good card, right?

Edit: I'm getting this monitor LG 29UM69G

    • +1

970 to this is more of a side grade, the performance will be very similar in most games on average.

I would consider a 1070 or Vega 56 the minimum to upgrade to for a decent upgrade, but I wouldn't upgrade to anything below a 1080 or Vega 64 honestly.

      • Then I think I'll wait until next year, the fact is that games are not increasing requirements as much as they used to.
Plus, this new line of cards will have to force a reduction in prices at some point next year.

    • I looking at a 27" 165hz 1440p viewsonic monitor! Down to 720.

Description mentioned, "Comparable performance to a 1060, for a lot cheaper".
Found this 1060 with free shipping for literally 5cent more ($263.25).

      GTX 1060 3GB ≠ GTX 1060 6GB, there's like a 10% difference.
      RX 580 is closer to 1060 6GB

  • Grabbed one for my young bloke…I actually messaged them at about 10pm last night over ebay and they responded straight away as I wanted to pickup…but they wont do pickup for eBay orders. They are obviously working through the night on this sale..

If only these could do photogrammetry

  • does this still chug 31mh on ETHASH?

    • +1

Should be possible with some adjustments. I don't reccomend mining at the moment though.

  • Thanks for the post. Would I likely find much improvement with either this or the 8gb version over a r9 380? I only occasionally play some CS or PUBG on 1080.

Are these cards able to get the 3x free games AMD is currently offering?
