@hippo2s: I've done cert 4 in pm, then prince 2, then got scrum master certification. All of this taught me nothing till I worked in R&D in an innovation lab. I learnt that to be truly Agile is about breaking any stupid rules that make no sense and focusing on dealing with the actual goals of the team. Once you work in a truly agile workplace with a high performing and cohesive team it's hard to ever go back.

        • @hippo2s: sounds like you've worked with some terrible scrum masters (I've seen my fair share of terrible PM's and Scrum Masters too). True agile your role shouldn't matter so much, as each person contributes according to their strengths and weaknesses. I do play a Scrum Master role however I see myself more as a team member and facilitator.

        • see you are scrum aus 2018! ozb scum masts meetup!

    • I agree. It's fairly easy to use. Doesn't make it fun,t hough.

      • It's not the tool's job to make it fun. that depends on the team and people's willingness to participate.

Let's start with everyone adding in a f(#king photo or avatar of themselves first…

        • WE don't really get much of a choice on how it should be setup. My manager is a dickward who makes all the decisions even though he is the least experienced person with JIRA.

        • managers needs to hire a scum master rather than cheaping out thinking it is easy and they or team can DIY…hit me up! :p

    • Setting up a custom configuration is annoying. I find the whole concept of the Thing/Thing scheme does my head in. It also sucks that the rules are completely arbitrary, like how "Epic" is a fixed Issue Type that you can't rename, duplicate or change in any meaningful way simply because Atlassian couldn't be arsed.

I mean, Atlassian's software is great when it already does what you need it to, but when it's atrocious when you want it to do something that they themselves didn't think of.

  • Thanks OP

We just moved to bit bucket. Does this deal make that free as well?

    • 5 user Bitbucket is already free, so yes you can have both at 5 user limit for free.

  • +6

Damn was hoping for confluence too :( Would love to use it as a personal wiki.

  • +4

Am I the only one that has no idea what these people are talking about?

    • +3

If you don't work on IT projects or are in the field of software development don't worry for now.

I say for now… Because ANZ is making all their employees use it. In Layman's terms it's a TO DO list so you can organise work with your team in a very nimble and transparent manner. It's a very powerful tool when used well and can have profound up tick in productivity. The hardest part is getting people to adopt it.

      • +2

        Thanks for the clarification.

If you don't work on IT

I don't. But I did watch the movie thinking it was some udemy type course. It wasn't. Though I did learn that I am scared of clowns.

      • ANZ is making all their employees use it

It’s interesting that consultants are pushing these software development methodologies and principles into the wider business.

Hint: they actually originated in the “wider business” (mainly at Toyota and Motorola) and were adopted only relatively recently by IT.

I am eager to look at this software though.

    • +1

Well, you can learn it on the run, from now on ask your wife / partner to add all the issues and tasks in Jira.
      * pipe need fixing
      * need to buy some bananas
      .. You got the picture?
Then you can add to TODO / Resolved.. categories.

So partner will get a email once you progress or complete the task. So your partner does not need to pestering every day about things not done so you can go enjoy and a beer since your issues are in JIra.

There’s Jira mobile app, no need for emails.

        • Has mobile app improved? for self hosted version? i thought that request has been on the backlog for years now…having to switch chrome to desktop view whenever I am on the go.

        • +1

@hippo2s: not sure about self hosted, but cloud version is good and has 4.5 stars rating on Apple App Store

        • +1

Sorry mate, mobile app got a bug in it and doesn't work for our work phones wink

      • Or, you know, you could just walk to the fridge and add bananas to the shopping list.

    No email.

  • +2

    Has anyone received the email?
Tried yesterday and today and still no email.

    • +2

      Tried 12h ago. No email.

    • Nope. Guessing it will be a business hours thing. Or it's just broken.

      • Not yet received any email either

  • +1

Have been using this at work for several years now, big fan. Not sure what ill do with it personally but signed up anyway.

    Cheers OP.

    • I actually plan to use it as my personal TO DO list and have the missus use it too. She loves to boss me around so at least I can give her a list and get her to prioritise what she wants first. She can't have everything all at once!

I lead a pretty busy life with 2 kids and it's hard to juggle everything. JIRA will hopefully help me in this regard.

      • Hehe fair enough but for personal things wouldn't trello just be easier?

        • I've never used trello before. Will look into it.

  • Looks like none received license.
Is it a email advertising fishing?

    • I haven't received either but could be a weekend lag thing

    • +6

Despite the number of positive votes this post received. Has anybody actually received an email/license? I have tried twice (I assumed an error with my first submission, because so many positive votes on the post.) Yet, still haven't received any email yet.

      • +4

Still waiting on mine, assume given they said an hour there's a manual step in there and they mean 'a business hour'….

      • +3

        same no email yet

  • +3

    After 12 hours haven't received anything……..

  • +2

    Did we just get scammed?

    • Doubt it. Probably just not automated and it's the weekend… Guess we'll get an idea in another day.

  • For PM tools alike; try Clickup or Notion

  • Not sure if you should give email when they don't send anything back

  • I can't seem to find the email. Did anyone receive it?

  • Maybe it's a bug in there website?

  • No email received, tried signing up with multiple emails since I thought there might be a chance that it might not take personal emails, but haven't received anything the past day.

Why the (profanity) would anyone want jira even if its free? Its an overcomplicated monstrosity.

    • Read some of my posts in the comments…

    • What alternative would you suggest? I’ve looked at Asana from a strategic planning perspective.

      • Trac? Roundup? Bugzilla?

These are usable but Jira is also pretty good.

  • I have success with my gmail address and not other, once you get the link use any other email address to register.

  • No email using gmail

  • Doesn’t look good for a ‘cloud service’ when sign-up emails are not being received

  • +5

Nothing against the product but this deal is flop, no emails.

    • Agree I wonder if we will get spammed soon

  • This would be amazing if it turns out to be perpetual, but if it's anything like their other offers it'll be restricted and/or crippled before long. Even their "self hosted" license that costs $10 stops getting support after 1 year. Can't imagine them providing a free, unlimited cloud-based service for an indefinite amount of time.

Anyway, thanks and will enjoy it for as long as it lasts.

    • Why not they do for Bitbucket?

It's a good up-sell point if you then want confluence or service desk, or need a larger team etc, then you'll have to start paying. There are lots of competitors trying to take market share, this would be a good way to stop them.

That said. Still no email, so this deal is a bust.

      • Thing with Bitbucket (self hosted solution) is that the $10 one is missing SAML 2.0 support and that is the feature I really want to try out. I am willing to pay $20 if they allow SAML 2.0 support, but $1800 is too much.

Still no e-mail, but I don't really care about Jira.

  • No email yet

  • Don't think we'll get the code.

The offer has now been expired and Atlassian twitter posted this

We've had an overwhelming response to that offer - more requests than we anticipated. Our team is working to get this sorted out for you and we'll be in touch as soon as we have next steps. Appreciate your patience!

    • +1

I hope we get our codes. Very disappointed if we don't!

    • +2

LOL they're giving away something for free and they didn't anticipate demand? Here's a nominee for an OzBargain award… (kinda like the Darwin awards, but for deals).

    • +1

That's a different way of saying, "We got ozbargained"

  • already expired - missed…

  • Just got the email

  • Got the email too, glad they came through.

  • Got the email, set everything up yay.

Mobile app data "free trial ends 19th Sept"

    https://imgur.com/a/nogCs1s

It's unclear if that's a monthly sub that renews at $0 cost. Since the Price Estimate is null.

  • +1

Got the email and signed up, but when I checked Site Admin > Billing > Manage Subscriptions it says "FREE TRIAL". Free until Sept 19………. wtf

    • yeah, when I saw that I cancelled my subscription right away. what a waste of time! typical atlassian :\

      • do u still have your jira login, i can buy it off u for $10? :P

    • Looks free to me.

      Bill estimate 20 Sep – 20 Oct

JIRA Software (Cloud) — Free trial until 20 Sep 2018 — Free
      Tax — $0 USD
      Total due 20 Sep 2018 — $0 USD

Based on your current configuration, you are being automatically charged $0.

      • Yeah, looks like the trial is a standard thing applied to all new accounts, and after that, you'll be billed $0 per month. Just looks like a workaround to make it fit their system.

  • No email here yet…
