Wow good price I reckon for an instant external SSD USB 3.0 Steam Game drive!

    Review: https://www.tweaktown.com/reviews/7988/seagate-512gb-ssd-gam…

Credit to Systema for the following information from a previous deal for this product:

The drive inside is a Seagate Nytro Client 140. The drive is made by SK Hynix in South Korea (see "site: HYN" on the label) for Seagate. I am 99% confident that it is a rebranded version of the Hynix SL308 with lime green plastic moulding.

See this for review of the SL308:
    https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/sk-hynix-sl308-ssd-revi…

He also says you can open it up without tools and indicated that performance is about on par with a Samsung 850 EVO.

    • does that mean you can crack it open and use it as a traditional hdd for pc, like sata connected?

  • +1

    Grr… That's actually a really great price!

    Must…not…buy…another…ssd…

  • +1

Thanks to its compact size and lack of a power cable, you can take your game collection to play on a friend's Xbox console.

Heh, from mandatory online checks to SSDs that you can fill with games and take to your friends house.

Can i use this as an external HDD?

    • +3

      Yes.

      • +6

        Thanks a lot mate

        • +3

          You are welcome.

    • This is an external HDD!

  • How does it compare to Samsung T5 external SSD?

    • +1

T5 uses samsung lastest gen 3d nand and controller equivalent of evo860 and better than this BUT i haven’t seen a T5 512gb for $119, so this deal is good for those not wanting to buy an ssd and put into a case, just wanting to buy a ready to ssd external.

    • +2

The review above suggests 470/430MBps read/write speeds which are pretty decent. The T5 is comparable to the 850 Evo at roughly 540/500MBps but lowest price I’ve seen is $199 for 500GB

For reference, the Kingston A400 and WD Green drives are half of that, and a 5400rpm HDD is 120MBps max (80MBps from my laptop drives)

Using on an Xbox will only get you small decreases in load times but this is an amazing value USB ssd for pc/Mac

  • Postage excludes Brisbane? Really?
Can they not deliver to Brisbane???

    • Ahh, the curse of Videopro bites back!

    • When i look at postage exclusions it only tells me Excludes: WA Regional, WA Remote, PO Box.

  • Was $99 last year from Officeworks, is a good performing drive.

  • That's an amazing price!
Now someone quickly buy the rest so I'm not tempted :P

  • Bought 2, couldn't resist at this price :)

  • Can I use it for my PS4?

    • +1

Yes,it's just an external hard drive.

    • Technically yes but the colours are not going to match!

      • Can paint the PS4 to match this drive.

  • Anyone getting errors when paying for it?

    • Yes. Comments on the original Bing Lee deal say that using live chat will get eBay to resolve it on your account

  • Bought one last night thanks OP. Hoping to use it as a scratch-pad of sorts for video and photo editing.

  • Might get one for the PS4 Pro for games I play regularly. Anyone know if there's any benefit with the initial load for R6: Siege on either console with an SSD?

    • +1

I use a pc with an ssd, so I’m not sure if it’ll be comparable with loading times. But for me it was much quicker, especially in matchmaking. So I believe you’ll notice faster loading times especially with the initial loading time! But I’d wait till other people can confirm this as I don’t have a ps4 yet :(

      • Thanks for that :) yeah haven't seen ANY impressions anywhere about console load times with SSD + Siege unfortunately.

        • might just be limitations from consoles not utilising ssds efficiently? either way this is still a good deal as you’ll probably at least notice loading times being a bit quicker!
this article might make up your mind for you on whether its worth it or not :)

  • Looks as tho the deal is over but just adding to the chats. My missus Xbox one elite with a hybrid drive loads games considerably faster then my Xbox one x.
I jumped on this deal quick enough that I was able to collect from my local (Campbelltown) store.
    Thanks

  • An important tip in regards to your data.

The conventional wisdom by tech experts on backups is known as the 3-2-1 method. Basically you want:

3 copies of any data you don't want to lose.
2 different mediums it's stored on (so 2 different drives in your computer, for example).
1 copy kept offsite, to prevent against disaster.

    • We need a deal on a three pack of these, please!
