  • So will this one still allow you to play your PS1 disks or just the pre-loaded content?

  • -1

Didn't even know this was a thing!

Thanks op, great post, ignore the rrp haters!

  • Sony's website hasn't listed all of the titles that are included, but Final Fantasy VII, Tekken 3, Ridge Racer Type 4, Jumping Flash and Wild Arms are all confirmed, and others will be announced via the PlayStation Blog.

  • It's an Android box running emulator?

  • I still don't understand the appeal of this thing. Its a wired controller that probably don't have rumble. And the games are so old…FF7 has not aged anywhere near as well as FF12. And you could play the games on PC nowadays anyway.

  • For 1/3 the price you could buy a PS4 controller, download an emulator on your pc and play all the games you want to.

Then you'd probably stop playing after 15 minutes because you realised PS1 games just aren't up to modern standards of entertainment.

    • The 1/3 of the price does extra for game licences, though.

Like others have pointed out, this is RRP with no discount.
Also note, the controllers don't even have joysticks for those buying it.

    • Username checks out for the first part of your comment, but the second part of your comment confuses me. Why would the controllers have joysticks when the original Playstaion didn't?

      • +3

Because once the Dualshock came out the original controllers were quickly forgotten. Sony releasing a PS classic and omitting the good controllers smacks of blindness.

  • Just pre-ordered.

  • Can play all these games on the vita

Waste of money, just use a free emulator and hook up some USB Playstation controllers to the computer.

  • +1

I have 3 original PS1's somewhere, when all there are combined, I have a PS3!!!

  • Does it come with Petscop?

  • -7

URGENT - Sony just announced this console will have Raytracing but alas you will be limited to 1080p @ 60fps

Mod: Removed linked to eBay listing.

Too early to tell if this will have stock shortages to suggest that RRP will be a bargain

  • Can any1 find this on Amazon AU?

  • $150 for this thing seems a touch excessive.

I remember when PS1s were $200 new when they were still mainstream.

$99 in the US so we are getting shafted as per usual.

      • +5

        $99 USD = $136 AUD

And if you add 10% for GST it becomes $151 AUD.

So we're not really getting shafted in this instance (and our market is significantly smaller than the US).

    • +1

so with inflation it would be $330 today, so half price

Jeez - all these minis around… just build a raspberry Pi with retropi and have them all running on one

Not a deal, this appears to be launch RRP for the Australia region as per Mashable and Kotaku articles announcing the system. There appears to be no indication that launch RRP (with no discount) should be considered a "deal" due to stock shortages/rarity. Many will be happy to buy at rrp for nostalgic value, but this is not a 'deal' as per guidelines.

    • +3

It's actually $0.99 cheaper than RRP.

  • +3

I prefer the retro feeling of getting a product made by the same company with a few games, makes you appreciate the games more. Don't care if you can get everything emulated and for free, i think that's greedy. Remember when you were a kid and you were only allowed to hire a couple of games a weekend? You really got everything you could out of each game.

this is the playstation, the first console with rampant piracy. If anything, paying for this is nothing like what we had as kids.

  • In my experience I bought both the NES and SNES Classics.

Played them both for about a day and now they just sit there.

  • Ordinarily I’d let it slide, but that RRP is too damn high for a piece of nostalgia. Still have the old girl sitting in a box.

    • should be 99 at most

  • whats the discount on this?

  • +1

I'm surprised Sony even bothered with this…there are PS2's 'littering the landscape'. Also, the PS2 must win the award for most mod chipped console. Everyone i see at markets etc has been modded.

  • I never really got to own consoles until well into my teens so only ever got to play these if a mate had one.

Glad they're making it so my kids can enjoy them :)

  • BAhahahaha ha haaaa

  • PSA: There is no dual shock controller (!!). It's the version with no analog sticks or rumble. That's a real bummer and it will influence what games could appear on it. So Ape Escape is out for sure. Many games playable without the sticks are still worse than they would be with the DS.

  • Thanks OP just pre-ordered will look good with the rest of my vintage consoles.

    Pre order :check:
    Retail Price :Check:

Where is the bargain here ?? Its not even in stock.

  • EB Games have there page up for the Sony PlayStation Classic. $149.99 Pre order with $50 deposit to secure console. "03 December. Online Only! One Per Customer! Will Sell Out!"

Gamesmen also $149.99. in store and On line.

Not pre-ordering from EB Games or anywhere else. Last time I managed to score the NES classic Mini re-release at a good less than retail price off eBay with a % off code. Hopefully there will be some better deals closer to release.

  • So what's the bargain??
