I've tried a few places and found the best coffee and prices at Coffee Snobs.

      • +1 for Coffee Snobs. They roast to order so it's fresh, their prices are good, and the coffee is always A+.

      • Thanks. Will try them both out.

    • Also keep an eye out for ozbargain favourites;
      Mana beans
      Two cracks

  • Does it come with paper filters?

    Includes:

      Yes

Ta, wasn't quite sure as it wasn't formatted correctly in the description, ie there is a line space and it didn't have a bullet point.

You can rinse and reuse the paper ones a couple times if you want be really hard core OzB and stretch it to 2-3 years

I did it when I was camping and forgot to pack the extra paper filters (which was why I then switched to a metal one)

        • I reuse my teabags 2-3 times cos I'm mega stingy hehe 😁.

Just on the paper filters - I bought some unbranded ones on AliExpress a few months ago, and when they arrived, they were indistinguishable from the real ones. ie they had Aerobie branding. Something to consider if you need more.

Anyone tried the Fellow Prismo? Kind of tempting but don't necessarily want to 'change' the niche place the aeropress has at home.

I've got an espresso machine for when I want espresso - short blacks, short and long macs - but when I want a strong and full cup of black coffee I use my aeropress.

PS. Agree the aeropress is great for travel and camping, and I'm also pretty chuffed with what I'm getting out of the nanopress too.

Use a Toddy in summer for cold brew.

What next for me? A different cold brew system, or maybe a pour-over kit?

Love coffee gear - in all forms!

I rate it. It solves the inversion method's problems. You can flip the entire thing from the start, add your grind, add your water, stir, let brew, then plunge. There is no drip through during this time - the one way valve is pretty good.

Does it improve the quality? Probably? Maybe? I like it but haven't done side by side comparisons. I'd recommend it purely on it making your life easier and less risk of spilling boiling water and grind everywhere during the 'flip' stage of the inversion method.

It doesn't create espresso - just epresso style coffee - I get minimal crema from it. It'd be good for a strong full cup of black coffee. Replaces paper filters as well.

      • Thanks for that. From my limited reading on it some users said it allows more of the oils to pass through - which are ordinarily removed by the paper filters - and therefore reintroduces some of the bean's characteristic flavours.

thanks for making me aware of it - that Prismo thing looks really interesting

@fookos - soumds like you've got every angle of this coffee making thing covered!

      • +1

I do enjoy the wonder of the coffee bean :)

    • I bought a Prismo a while back and second everything Luckydrew says.

It was ~$22 at Cottle On Coventry, which is just around the corner from South Melbourne Market. Walk in price only, but that's about half of what it was going for everywhere else.

  • I have this but thinking of grabbing a V60. Anyone have both that can give a comparison?

    • +1

I have a V60 but not this - from my understanding an Aeropress gives a stronger brew than V60, so a bit closer to espresso than most other filter methods. Someone else with both may want to correct that though.

Just wondering how this is a bargain when I bought the latest model for $38 from forever coffee with free ebay plus shipping and no 'sale'? That's $2 cheaper than this sale price and available any time… Nevertheless, not a bad price especially if you don't have ebay plus.

    • +1

It's $39.95 now. Not much of a difference with Cashrewards. :) Thanks mate.

  • What coffee grinder would you recommend or go with this ?

    • If you're looking for electric, the Breville Smart Grinder Pro goes on sale for $160 fairly often and at that price can't be beaten.

For hand grinders, Hario and Porlex get good reviews. I have a Hario myself and it's quite good.

      • I've got the Breville Smart Pro for home and recently picked up a Porlex Mini for on-the-go use. Used it last weekend for the first time and was very happy with the quality of the grind. The ceramic burr does a good job.

      • What grind size do you on the Smart Grinder Pro?

        • +1

Large - even up to the biggest setting. Invert the Aeropress; use 20g of coffee with 200g of water (around 80 deg - it's vital to not go too hot). Stir a little; brew for ~90 seconds. Plunge slowly.

        • For the aeropress? Don't go too large on your grind. I find somewhere between espresso and plunger to be perfect - around setting 26.

Temp around 80-85 degrees good, as per magicmoose's advice.

Check out some YouTube vids of aeropress recipes. You'll get some good tips from watching and then refine to your own preferences.

Ps. Consider using a gooseneck kettle if you have one.

    • +1 for Porlex - been using one for two years and it's still going strong. Nice, consistent grind.

  • This or stovetop/ moka pot for camping. Tried the stovetop this weekend over gas and was pleasantly impressed.

    • I'd go the Moka pot, you need a stable surface for aeropressing, higher risk of toppling over the Cup/Press/Plunger stack out camping.

      • Or I guess you could go for the Nanopresso, which doesn't require you to press down on a surface if you're concerned about stability.

        • Really want these guys to put the Nanopresso barista kit on special!

    • Go the nanopresso for compact, easy coffee with minimum cleaning.

  • Bought. Let’s hope it’s decent

  • Code: R5 for $5 off. It's a code I got for doing a review on their website. The coupon will come up as expired, which it's not; just message them via the chat box and tell them that it's not working and they should give you another code to use. This is the scenario that happened last time I tried to use one of my review codes. NOTE: I already have two Aeropress devices; one for home and one for travel.

  • Great price!

    My 55 cents:
If you have a Haribo hand grinder, have it set 7 Clicks back from the tightest point you can set it.
If you want the best flavour, use paper filters.
If you can be bothered, get a stainless steel filter, the coffee won't be quite as clear, but still very good (and you won't need to buy filters)
If you prefer flavour over strength, use aprox 13g of coffee grinds.
Unless you need the aeropress straight away, leave the cleaning until you get home later (presuming you are drinking coffee in the morning).
If you have a stainless steel filter, sliding it off sideways makes cleaning a breeze.
The beans you use are 90% of the reason behind how you're coffee tastes. If you are measuring both the volume of coffee and water, as well as water temp, and you don't like the coffee, try different beans.
If you don't have an aeropress and are thinking about getting into home brewing, I would highly recommend a v60 over these. The end result is considerably lighter, but has a much cleaner flavour.
    Over and out.
Edit: this is a great price. $45 is the typical in store price of an aeropress

  • Great, I just spent $250 on this and beans/plate/grinder.

Smell ya later, grimy work pod machine.
