Trade-in a Used PS4 DualShock 4 Controller for a New Magma Red PS4 Controller (V2) for $19 @ EB Games

1890

I don't have a screenshot of the deal which was in store but the offer still stands until the end of this month as I've asked the store retailers.

Basically you bring in your old PS4 controller in working condition (just the controller itself) and for $20 you can get a V2 controller in Magma Red ONLY

I traded in my white ps4 v1 controller i've been using since 2014, left thumbstick rubber is all worn out but still acceptable and got myself a new V2 red controller for only $20

Offer only spotted in Keysborough's EB Game in Parkmore so i wouldn't know about other EB retailers.

Perfect if you have been using your controller for so long and it's worn out. Even more better if you're looking to upgrade from V1 to V2

Happy Hunting.

Thanks to sarakoth for the picture.

      • ah that was an error by the retail assistant who thought i was at first trading in my controller to price down some games and the worn out rubber was the $3 refurb fee

        • They charge the fee on perfect condition games so you gotta watch them. They only store arrogant to charge you a little something extra for the "privilege" of selling to them.

  • Whats better about the V2 compared to V1 ?
I have my choice of controllers based on colours I wanted . 1 red and 1 blue. Both are practically in like-new condition as rarely play games and switch between the 2 (with 1 always on charging).
    Maybe I have V2 already ??

I think marginally better battery life (it's new stock too, so better than yours which has seen use), can transmit via USB for less latency, and the light-bar is much more visible on the top of the controller. It's a nice subtle improvement, but you definitely aren't really missing anything.

      • +2

You forgot that they made the analogue sticks MUCH more durable. V1s used to peel very easily with medium-light use.

@Flanders if you got your controllers in Q1 2017 or later, they are likely v2s

    • +1

Also the V2 controllers have better build quality. They don’t squeak/creak when you push hard on the triggers.

  • I have a controller which i bought from ebay.. it is a chinese controller i guess with no "PS" sign in the middle button. Is there any chance they would trade it..

    • If it is a wired controller, no.
If it works the same as a sony ps4 controller, just without the ps logo, then it would depend who is working at the time.
Most of the EB staff are really nice, so there is a good chance they would do it for you.

  • Is this one per customer or can you trade them all?

  • +1

We've got a v1 controller with the right analog stick getting stuck issue (wont return to center). Was planning to open up the controller, thinking it might just be a rubber or something that's gone out of place. But seeing this deal, cant help but think if this stuck up controller would qualify?

Anyone tried in Melbourne? High point is generally pretty generous.

Got it broski!!!!! @ Ebgames the Gallery

    • Awesome! Did they have it advertised instore?

      • Refer to my comment (2 below).

  • Gee, I can imagine my store:

    "No, no such thing."
"OzBargain? Sorry, online forums are not official."
"I'm not losing out on this, why would I do this?"
"I'm calling management, I'm not taking a hit on this."

    • The sign for this controller trade in is well concealed behind the counter and hidden behind the console box; it's almost saying that they have the promo but don't want to reveal em.

      • Yeah, they're the worst to deal with.

It's like there's something stuck up where the sun don't shine 24/7.

Interestingly enough, I have never had an issue with any of the female employees. Not one.

So something wrong with the males there. Didn't want to bring gender into it, but females 0 and males like 20. I think they need a lesson in customer service.

    • +1

Why would you mention OzBargain? Just say your friend lives near [store] and they sent you this picture.

If they call management and are told no, then it means this deal isn't actually active and anyone that gets it is getting lucky.

  • Sweet - I have two I want to swap. Anyone know if there's a limit?

    Gonna try at Toowong

  • Just called the one of the Capalaba stores and they said its finished :-(

  • Yeah just tried at Murray Bridge and they said it's finished.. finished along with the %off sale a few days ago
Even though the poster says 30/10/18
They tried to get me to buy some other sort worth $99, with $50 trade in, but that's still $50.. so very much not worth it considering my controllers are still working etc..
I'll just wait till the next one..

Went to the store in Maroubra NSW, bloke didn't know about the promotion showed him the picture and he accepted it without any hesitation. Got myself a new magma red controller

    • Lucky u! went there 30mins ago n got rejected outright saying the deal already ended.
      😕

  • Got one for $22. $3 refurb fee.

Arana Hills, Brisbane. Took a lot of convincing it was a real deal.

  • I phoned two stores near me and they both said they received an email this morning saying the deal has ended😐

    • I phoned blacktown EB games and they said the controllers are $89.95 not $69.95 (which the 69.95 price ended a few days ago) and with the trade in, it will be $39 not $19 due to the retail price of the controller.

  • I was lucky enough to get one last night around 8pm, they still had the flyer stuck behind the counter. :) Traded in my old (but working perfectly) V1 to a new red V2 :)

Thanks OP. Just traded in 2 at Helensvale QLD. They had it advertised at their counter. No problems at all. And they said they had heaps of stock at the back.

    • +1

Thank you for the heads up YOLO! I just scooped that last one at Helensvale, after being told by Beenleigh that they won't honour that deal.

  • Guys, blacktown EB games said the controllers are $89.95 not $69.95 and with the trade in, it will be $39 not $19 due to the retail price of the controller.

  • Got mine! Luckily called my store this morning to confirm before heading in, when I got there the guy said he got an email from head office cancelling the promo but he honoured it cos I called ahead. Also took the opportunity to trade in a copy of Watchdogs 2 I had lying around. Surprised they gave me $15 for it! So got the new controller for $4 haha.

  • has anyone got this deal in newcastle area?
Just called EB Games at Greenhills and they told me "yeah nah, ended today"
called Glendale "sorry, ended last monday"

    cessnock say… "Ended 12 o'clock today"

  • The guy at Highpoint said they got a notification around 10 saying that it had ended.
    Ozbargained?

  • My local wouldn’t do this deal, however gave me $47 trade in for my old DualShock 4 V1. I then got them to pricematch JB - $59 for a brand new DualShock 4, paid the $12 difference. Great deal

    • Any reason why he gave you $47 for it?

    • My local was only doing $22 for trade in :(

    • +1

$47 for trade in? sounds too good to be true.

      • There's a new promo tho. The standard trade in is $22.00 but the new promo, you trade in your V1 for V2 and get it for 39.00

      • They were going to give me $50, but took off $3 for the refurb fee as one of the thumb sticks had the rubber busted.

        • +1

I don't know who you spoke to but the dude that I saw said the following:

          • $22 standard trade in, or pay $39 and get any standard V2 controller.
          • Only reason why it was $19 is because red was reduced by $20 for a limited time. Promotion ended hence now you gotta pay $39.
          • You cannot price match with JBHIFI to get the extra trade in value.

You must've been one lucky bastard if you actually got it for $12 LOL

  • +1

My local (Beenleigh, QLD) near enough laughed at me. They told me that they could do the deal for $39.00 and that deals differ from State to State.

    • I got the deal for $39, this deal has ended. But the $39 deal is for any colour.

      • Any colour as in the standard colours only (black - blue - red - white), or includes the new colours?

        • Standard unfortunately. The $89.95 controllers. My local EB games, I wanted the midnight blue but that was 99.95 and I didn't know. But she honoured it for 89.95 :) so I got it for 39.00 with the trade in of my V1 controller. :) Happy with that.

  • Can you price match the controller with JB, then use the newer trade in deal to still get it for like $20?

    • No - see my post above :)

Hi guys, it’s still valid. I went to EB games in Westfield Doncaster. At first, he said the deal is expired, however if you look closely at the photo, the expiry date is 30/10/2018. When my wife came back and argued with him, he finally accepted the deal. Please be bold and ask for T&C where they can show you it’s expired. Here is my receipt: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Bxs2EJuRqhYsCPeX7

    • +6

Nah doesn’t sound like it’s still on, sounds like you guys were pushy/aggressive and the poor guy who’s only doing what their told wanted you to go away lol

    • +2

Can I borrow your wife for an hr

Tried Airport West in Melbourne. She called head office and they said it expired. I showed the photo that had the expiry date but she wouldn't budge. Said that she never seen the deal before and can't honour it. Not happy Jan.

    • Yep same with me, just called them

  • +1

I took mine into Charlestown yesterday. No signs up in store. Asked at the desk and the lady looked on the computer. She said yes the deal is still on.

I handed my old contoller over and expected she would pull up the rubber peeled away from the stick but she looked at it. Got it for $19.
