      • +3

        Decent saving then…

    No stock in vic

my s8 still rocking hard, didnt even notice it is a almost 2 year old phone, still best screen and snapy

    • “Best Screen” compares to which phones ?

      • +1

I think it’s just his opinion, don’t think he’s making a statement about its screen against other phones.

      • +12

        Nokia 2110

        • Or Nokia 8310 :)

    • +2

I've hard mine for a year and many updates later it has become extremely laggy and also the camera has trouble fpcusing

      • Mine is fine. Camera is great too.
Had it since release but I have reinstalled everything.

    • Hows the battery life?

  • For 2017 phones, this or Pixel 2?

    • +3

Was tempted by the Pixel 2's stunning camera. But no expandable memory was the dealbreaker for me.
      I went with this instead.

      • +5

Yeah, the fact that it doesn't have a headphone jack and wireless charging is also disappointing. I was leaning towards the Pixel 2 mainly for the camera too, but I am kinda conflicted to pick one over the other now. :(

        • The camera difference is so low, it doesnt matter

          • +3

@Most Wanted: @Most Wanted: It's a damn big difference in camera quality! That said, you can get Pixel camera app ported over to Galaxy phones

    • -1

      no expandable memory…
pixel 2 doesnt have an ip rating too?

      • Pixel 2 is ip67. It also has pure Android with fastest update. Even Android One like Nokia 7 plus is only getting pie update now, about 2 months later than Pixel.

S8 has Samsung Pay on top though, which is really useful as it's much more widely accepted than either Apple or Google (Asian countries).

    • Pixel 2, free unlimited original-size upload to google photos until 2021.

Thanks op, I scored a blue through click and collect. Perfect timing as my lg g4 is dying and I stalled&missed the kogan g6.

Good find BA what a deal for local stock

  • Would officeworks price match or beat it?

    • It's DJ. Why wouldn't they price beat it unless they're out of stock?

      • +4

Because OW will always find a way.

  • Cheapest I've seen a new Aus stock S8. Got one from Allphones (part of Mobileciti) eBay for $637 + Cashrewards discount a couple of months ago with the 25% off eBay voucher. Next best alternative right now would be $729.41 on the Mobileciti eBay store with the 5% discount.

And another 10% off using discounted instant delivery egift cards from RACQ

    • A link to that, please?

with this type of sale, better to pay by credit card and forgone those 10% unless you happen to shop with them occasionally because there's very high chance of out of stock and you end up with unwanted giftcards

  • +1

I've been waiting for this for two years. Thanks OP and DJ.

    Gold one here: https://www.davidjones.com/electrical/smart-tech-and-phones/…

I dont see the blue one available anymore.

Would never buy from David Jones. Says they are in stock, never actually are. Then it’s a nightmare getting a refund.

    • Happen to me too many times!

  • When you do a search on their site it says - Galaxy S8 Demo

I have an S8. Great camera, largely a great phone, just be prepared for frustrations with the little things - turning the torch on if you have a passcode is way more painful than it should be, the fingerprint sensor is located in a really dumb place and impossible to use (though facial recognition works well) etc. If you can put up with the minor annoyances, you'll love it.

    • you can remap the bixby button to use the torch. I've got mine set up so i just have to double tap it to switch on the torch, don't even need to turn the screen on (bxactions is the app)

    • I must be really talented… Been using the fingerprint sensor as my primary unlock method for the last 18 months on my S8+.

  • +2

Don't forget to use 10% DJ gift card better deal than OFW price match

  • appears to be all sold out

  • thanks, pulled the trigger on Black

switched from S8(64+4 dual sim $760) to Oneplus 5T(128+8 dual sim $680) earlier this year, 5T offers much a better experience overall.

4G ram is too small for a Samsung phone, you can't keep any apps running at background otherwise you will get slow responses and quick battery drain.

also a pain to unlock on S8, i had to use pattern lock all the time.

i like the ip68 rating though, can go swimming/spa with it

    • -2

4GB ram is too small for a Samsung phone, you can't keep any apps running at background

Tell that to all the people who still manage to get by perfectly well on 1GB ram lol. It's the processor that makes or breaks it.

Personally I think 6 or 8GB ram is ridiculous on a phone. It's not running Windows, Photoshop etc lol

What are you doing to constantly utilise 8GB of ram on your phone??

      • -1

        P0rn. Lots and lots of p0rn. 😊🍆💦

      • If you use dex you'll appreciate more ram.

    • Never had any problems with my S7 which is still going strong 2.2 years later ?

Pattern lock ? You can chose the touch id, Facial or pin code also mate ? Maybe your more suited to Apple ?

  • Excellent price. I have Note 8 and it is still going strong but if I don't have that but an old phone, I would definitely get this one.

  • -2

on ebay they are all 600$… ?

    • Grey import, probably not Australian stock. Pain in the ass when trying to get refund,
Might not have Aussie network bands :)

  • +8

Got OW to price beat this morning whilst DJ still had stock of the black. Really nice deal. Thanks OP!
    $604 a bargain for last year's flagship.

    • +2

      Wow.. True Ozbargainer :D

  • +3

registered to thank the OP (thank you!)

I got OW to price beat for the mighty sum of $604.19

    • +1

      You're welcome mate.. Thanks :)

  • +1

    s9 camera is awesome

    • This is an s8…s9 will be $600 next year

      • +1

This S8 has been around the same price for about 1.5 years.

        • AU stock with 24 mnths warranty?

          • +2

@ozhunter68: I'm meaning the S8 Australian stock prices hasn't moved much at all in the past year and a bit. Let alone the S7 price.

            • @Tony-Abbott: Sure, I understood that.

I do believe this $635.99 price is currently the lowest ever for New AU stock so far, but like you say has only dropped a bit since one + years ago.

As someone has commented below, Samsung is following Apples lead in High Pricing according to fashion/trend/image advertising and marketing.

The only Samsung phone I have ever Bought was a Samsung Ativ S years ago from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/135132 just to test out windows phone ( never ended up using it as my daily driver as I liked my Android HTC Incredible S ).

After setting up a SG8+ a few months ago for someone else, I was impressed with what I saw/felt and if price came down to my level ( below $500 ) I could consider this Android option in future, maybe lol.

  • Anyone had experience with DJ online shopping? Ordered something on Monday 8 Oct, and received confirmation but not a word since.

    • Was it for delivery? They state it can take up to 7 days to send out. They might be asking a store to send stock to you

      • Yes, delivery was included in price (or so called free delivery…). Ok, will follow up next week. But for a large business this online sales turnaround time is not up to standards today.

        • Yeah they're pretty slow at the moment …

  • +2

Best price for AU stock I’ve seen, and as a long-time Samsung fan looked into buying one, but Samsung competes with Apple for price gouging these days, and though a nice phone with good specs I'm still not sure they're good value. It's the build that really puts me off. Every S8 owner I know has smashed them, even a fall from a coffee table. Those rounded edges just seem like dumb design over practicality to me. They don’t sit well in my hand, and I don't get the fashion for front and back glass. Like the early iPhones, if you need a cover to protect them, what’s the point? Just build them to last in the first place.

    • +1

Apple is in fashion business that makes more money as nothing lasts more than 1 year. Samsung follows the money.
Being in Android world means you can always change for much cheaper alternatives.
PS. Every 2nd iphone I've seen was cracked.

  • +5

Great find, thanks. The deal is still available in stores. Just picked one up from David Jones in Chatswood.

    • Wow. Thanks mate for update

  • Should've just price matched at JB while it was still in stock…by the time I got to OW, it was out of stock and they refused to price beat.

    • +1

Ouch.. Check or Call nearest DJ instore they may have few in stock.

      • +2

Following this: not every store sells technology. You would be best to call the city store in your state and if you're in Melbourne, Chadstone as well (and for Sydneysiders, Chatswood and Bondi Junction)

  • +1

Better than HTC One m8? In real, hands on experience not on specs

    • +1

Sorry to say, time to let go your HTC M8.

    • The HTC has better speakers maybe…

I have actually used one, it is ok, but don't pretend it is a modern phone experience. A new Android phone does not need a custom rom to have a smooth experience (sound familiar?)

When you upgrade your phone you will notice how laggy your HTC really is, and how much battery life has improved in the last few years.

      • +1

The HTC has better speakers definitely. Camera is crap on HTC, screen is nice but nowhere the level of the S8. Performance is a noticeable improvement on the s8, especially with things like gaming that requires a bit of loading ufs storage vs emmc. And apps like snapchat aren't that great of an experience on the older Android flagship models. If you use a custom rom the one m8 still holds up very well considering its age.

        • I agree with everything except "HTC camera is crap".On paper the s8 has higher specs but to the eye I don't see a difference in pic quality on the phone or a regular size monitor between the two.
So I wouldn't say it's crap. Also HTC has a metal case & twin speakers that sound lot better than Top end phones in the market.

  • +5

Got HN to price match and I used my 2 Amex (spend $250 and get $50 back) to pay.

    • +1

How did you get them to price match if it's out of stock?

      • +2

They checked DJ website and said they will match the price.

  • just got an email stating that they were unable to fulfil my order :(

    • Did you click and collect at Chatswood?

      • Queen mall, I rang up the store itself and said I had paid online. Staff member stated by the time the online store staff had called, customers had already called up and out them on hold

      • +1

Chatswood sold out of stock before fulfilling online order.

  • +2

Hate curved edges on the screen… Is that just me?

    • +1

I always thought I hated them, but after a few weeks with the S8 I grew to quite like them.

They're actually really comfortable to use for scrolling - just use the edge of your finger along the curves.

  • +2

Thanks OP for posting the deal. I get one from JB Hifi for the same price.
