Nothing against this deal but these usff refurbs seem to be going up in price not down…

    • Yes, they've become more popular and more people know about them.

Around 5 years ago, my uni would sell them in huge lots for really cheap. Even then they could hardly sell them, their warehouse sales were always great, monitors for $20, too. These days they just don't have them anymore, I assume these refurbishers are taking them at basically the same price and selling back to the public at higher prices.

    • I think there is something going on with the PC market on a global scale. Some sort of boom. Think about it, first there were the huge gpu shortages. At the time we were told that was due to crypto mining. Righto. That has eventually come back to normal with some good deals on last gen cards lately, but still… Those GTX 1070 are more than 2 years old and people are still paying over $500 for them…
At the same time there were massive RAM shortages, and that still hasn't really come good yet, although prices are just now starting to edge down ever so slightly.
But then now Intel have been having shortages of its high end Coffee Lake chips and prices have shot through the roof! At least SSD's are cheap.
But nevertheless, there is some sort of boom going on in the PC components market. It may have something to do with China, the world's most populous country. In China, e-sports have pretty much become the de-facto national sport. That might be why the PC market has been booming lately.
Also, all the good games lately are PC games. Yes they may eventually get ported to consoles (or not), but PC is their home. Games like CS:GO Overwatch, League of Legends, Dota 2, PUBG, Fortnite etc are enormously popular, and they are PC titles through and through.

    • Yeah, there's a better deal on a Lenovo with a screen and keyboard/mouse, same CPU for $30 less, but no SSD:

+TrevBargn, your link is to a 2 core version of the CPU. The cpu in this deal is the 4 core version, for what that is worth vs getting a monitor or two etc..

What's the power supply in it?

    • +3

Usff basically means no additional gpu. If you are looking at adding a 1050ti or similar you want at least sff

      • Ah I see

    External Power Adaptor like laptop

"Any consumable e.g., Optical Drives, Lithium Battery, Adaptor, etc are not covered under warranty."

    power adapter is a consumable?

  • Yes

$250 delivered would be a deal on ozbargain or $320 with GTX 1050 otherwise it's just boring advertising.

Its USFF. No graphics card will fit.

        • Its USFF. No graphics card will fit.

Then I wouldn't buy even if it was sold for $150.

find these littered on gumtree for around $200 a pop

  • How about a deal on something with aes-ni and multiple Ethernet ports? This doesn’t even have a pcie for addon card :(

Not a deal, just standard price, effectively spam advertising.

These the ones you bought at MGS auctions a lot cheaper?

  • people expecting gpu, extra ethernet ports, bigger power supplies, etc ……you need to remember, these machines were targeted at corporate office workers, they arrived , sometimes preloaded with office, sometimes the office techie would load, got plugged in and that was it …..so they were built small (desk space is expensive) and cheap (competitive purchasing) to fill a market and offered limited attractive options when bought.

dell, hp, lenovo all also make AT mini sized office PCs but they are targeted at “ power users “ and most offices have very few of those and so are scarce on refurb market.

if you are looking for expansion try ebay or gumtree and get a used PC with normal sized MB, power supply and full height slots, these sff machines are good if you are happy with what they are designed for and all you do is add wireless card and upgrade to a decent SSD.

    • Yeah, understood, but I need to upgrade a hp t5740 thin client, this amazing machine had a low power fanless design, 2/4gb ram and a pcie expansion option! Such a pity it’s only a 32bit atom. Need something comparable but with an aes-ni capable processor. Preferably ussf running less than 15w.
      Hard ask, but not impossible.

  • They jacked the price up after selling 1 ? …
