Can you combine it with the $200 credit when signing up for a Telstra Plan?

Link to pdf with the phones which can be traded in:

Half of the phones on that list are under $200… whats the fine print say for the $200 off. I'm not sure you can call it a deal if nobody knows how it works.

  • +1

So put them back to full price, get a free phone traded in and profit. Business 101.

  • +13

You'd probably make more from selling your phone on gumtree than at those trade-in prices lol

    • Agreed. No deal.

  • +3

999 for an s9 after tradein doesnt seem like a bargain thou…

  • +2

Really not worth it. I bet we can make more selling it ourself rather then giving it to JB.

Under basically no circumstances is this a deal. You would be better off buying the phone elsewhere and selling whatever phone you have on gumtree. Maybe easier if you're lazy, but not a bargain.

I have s7 edge that I dropped. It works fine and screen not broken, but has a pink line going though it. To repair it - around $200. And who would buy it for more than $200? These trade ins are not a deal as they deduct from the rrp, not the current sale prices. Just saw that they offer $145 for S7 Edge. Clowns
For me, looks like I am stuck with my phone until s9+ or Note 9 comes down in price to something affordable on the second hand market

    • Another deal was for $839 from Samsung….

ahhh, thought it was trade in any phone for $200

like this deal here where I got my S6
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/214061

Back then I bought a $20 coles phone and got $200 off :D

    • They actually any accepted any phone back then? Wish they did that it now, but thats not gunna occur.

      • They actually any accepted any phone back then? Wish they did that it now, but thats not gunna occur.

yeah. I traded in a Nokia 2730 and got the S6 Edge Gold with VR glasses for $578 at the time lol

        • I did the same - bought a brand new Optus prepaid, traded it for $200 discount and got an S6 for $598. Traded the S6 a week later for an iPhone, which I sold for over $800.

The Optus phone came with 3 months of free Netflix, which I redeemed before selling. That was a sweet deal.

      • yes

  • Sorry OP, but the numbers just don't seem to stack up with this deal. Sounds a bit like EB Games trade ins in the 2000s.

  • Trade in a working phone for $200*

List of phones: all worth much more than $200.
Sorry but that's a neg from me, sell it on eBay for much more and even get a voucher :)

  • JBs prices are disgusting still selling the S8 for $998, can be had around the $640 mark aus stock not a deal sorry

  • Sorry, no deal here! All trade in phones worth more than $200.

  • I mean my iPhone 6 has a real bad battery that lasts like 2-3 hours max! The maximum capacity is 66% according to battery health. I mean since this phone is laggy asf and I want a new iPhone, the $125 probably isn't too bad… and if it stacks with that iPhone XS telstra deal

Not sure this trade-in offer has been reported properly. This was my experience yesterday.
Visited JB Hi-fi and price matched the phone to $1070 (was shown their cost price, may have been able to do better here).
    Traded my S7 Edge in for $320. ($120 + the bonus $200 trade-in offer).
Used JB Hi-fi Gift cards purchased that morning online at 5% discount to pay the $750 and saved another $37.50
Signed up to JB Hi-fi Telstra $45 50GB 12Mth plan (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/407199). If you port even better as you get cashback towards the phone.
Redeemed the JBL Headphones online valued at $349 RRP. (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/406677)
    = Me happy :-)

    • Is this for the S9 or S9 plus? Do you mind sharing a receipt or how you got them to bring price down to $1070?
      Cheers.

S9. Think it was originally $1199 in store but I asked about a price match for an online store. Bexetech I think was $900 odd. He showed me his cost price as $1070 and I agreed to that as I wanted it right away due to other circumstances.

  • This deal has been misreported. It is actually an extra/bonus $200 trade-in on top of whatever the normal trade-in price is (even if normal trade-in price is $0 for a very old phone). It applies to any phone you trade in (not just the ones in the OP list), as long as it is working with no major defects.

    Similar to sapsol above,
    - Price matched Galaxy S9 Plus to $1200
    - Traded in crappy old phone worth $0 (They looked it up in their normal trade-in system)
    - but +$200 for bonus trade in deal

    $1000 final price

    • Wish that was the case. I called my local JB hi-fi store and was told they only accept phones on the list. Most of those phones are recent. He did ask what phone I wanted to trade after I said nexus5 he said nah.
