  • Does this play 3d dvds in 3d???

    • +2

No it is a standard Blu Ray player only :)

    • +2

No, you'll want the S470 if you need 3D.

  • Good price, I picked up the Stand alone player for $165 a few months back

    • I picked up the Sanity deal when it was 4 free blu-rays. Now it's 5, and I just bought a 2nd one. :)

  • -1

Is it available in stores? BD Player prices are dropping but your price remains same for a basic BD player. With added shipping costs it is not a bargain , in my opinion

    • Available in stores next week. This promotion there are 5 Blu Rays in the offer. Last promotion was 4.

      • With Blu Ray movies prices coming down (Buy 2 get one free at JB etc), this is not a significant upgrade in value.

    • +1

BD Player prices are dropping but your price remains same for a basic BD player

what price is the blu ray player….?
      bearing in mind….

the Blu-Ray player is not sold separately

Cheapest I've seen this player elsewhere is $165…..which would make 5 blu rays about $35 with this deal….. (pick up)
plus a $4000 hdmi cable for free (cough cough)

You've seen it for less than $165??

      • You must be right. My mistake.

  • +2

The specs on this are great. Plays h264/mkv/etc from local USB drive or network. UPNP too, i think. Anyone tried one in real life as a networked media player?
All I see missing is 3D and multi-region.

    • +1

It's DVD multi-region. Blu-ray region B only - but Amazon.co.uk and free shipping is generally cheaper than US prices anyway.

I use it as a network media player and it plays all my h264 .avi files. Smooth with FF and Rew - something my Samsung 3D player won't.

I haven't tried HD stuff, or MKV as I don't have any.

      • That network player feature got me interested. Can you tell me whether it is able to access a normal Windows network shared folder, or would I need to run some media/UPNP/DLNA/whatever server for it?

        • My NAS (Acer Aspire Easystore) has a DLNA server built in. It picks it up no problem.

The s370 also supports ABC's iView and SBS's video sites, streaming direct from them. There a few other internet video sites supported as part of it's "BRAVIA Internet Video streaming" feature, including Youtube.

Much better than the crap Samsung put on their Blu-ray players.

        • Plays video/music/photo files on your home
server, such as a DLNA certified PC by
connecting the player to the home network.
1 Prepare for playing files on a DLNA
          server.
          • Connect the player to a network
          (page 12).
          • Set “Connection Server Settings”
          (page 25).
          2 Select (Video), (Music), or
(Photo) on the home menu using
          </,.
3 Select a DLNA server using M/m, and
          press ENTER.
The file list or folder list appears.

  • damn damn damn…….
bought a second one of these at the w/end for $165

    great player….

  • +2

Great but not 3D makes me sad :(

  • +1

It's an excellent entry level Blu-ray Player - I took advantage of the offer last time around, and can highly recommend this player (if you aren't after a 3D Blu-ray player).

Great deal with the free Blu-ray titles too.

  • Does anyone know if the player is region free for DVD's?

    • +1

Yes the player is region free for DVD's.

  • +1

    5 blurays + a HDMI cable for $35.. Yes please :)

        • i stand corrected. good job ! :)

        • +1

4 blu-rays for the kids and Predators for Dad. Like it!

        • Replicated the same items in my basket and it came up as $199, obviously they have fixed the error.

        • wow nice!

          you are very lucky

        • Can we get a price match with $145 receipt ?

        • Sorry guys no price matching:(
Brains slipped through the system with the combination he purchased.
The issue has now been fixed.

        • Great buy, hope they honour it

        • +5

Of course, we will honour it. But cannot price match now the error is fixed.

        • +5

          Sanity rep, you are nice!

  • +1

told my mate about this, she said it ended up costing $178 might depend on the blurays you order.

  • +3

Awesome deal. The 5 DVDs nearly came out to $200 when you buy 5 @ $40ea. It's about time I got a Blu-Ray player anyway. I Bought this - hope the wife doesn't kill me. :)

  • Got myself one of these as well… nearly pulled off an ultimate bargain though, using the Disney two for one.

Essentially I picked 3 disney titles in the Blu-ray bundle which were also in the 2-for-1 promotion. This then allowed me to pick 3 more '2 for 1' titles, and I ended up with 8 Blu-rays for $200 !

Unfortunately someone else must have worked this out, and when I came back 1 hour later to pay, the blu-ray discs had been removed from the online Disney 2-for-1 (only the DVDs remained online). The 2-for-1 Disney promotion ends tomorrow.

Ahh well, certainly cheaper than putting another PS3 in the kids TV room to play media off the linux media server at home!

  • Thanks.. Just got one:)

  • I bought this player for $145 brand-new about a month ago. There are a ton of people selling them because they were bundled with Sony TVs a while back, apparently. Most are selling $150 but you can haggle. Also remember that this DVD player is now superceded - the S380 is the replacement (see Sony US website). Not much difference really, but may have a lower RRP when it comes out.

    • So you get delivery, 5 blu-rays and a hdmi cable for ~$69 extra. Still seems like a good deal.

As for the new model, from what I can find, it's just a little faster loading Blu-rays.

      • Kind of. Alot of those blu-rays are worth only approx $10.60 (see the JB Hifi deal going). So alot of those titles you could get for $53 or so (for 5) if purchased separately. As for the cable, only useful if you have a display with HDMI. Sucks that the Sony player only comes with composite cables included. What a joke. I have my blu-ray player connected by component (which I already had) to my Sony CRT. It's great, I can use the one remote to control the volume and turn both the TV and blu-ray off, because they're the same brand :)

        • Alot of those blu-rays are worth only approx $10.60

Yeah, you need to be smart about which ones you pick. I got (JB web-price):
          - A Team Extended Cut ($19.98)
          - Date Night Extended Edition ($19.98)
          - Knight And Day ($19.98)
          - Losers ($15.98)
          - Prince Of Persia Sands Of Time Blu-ray + DVD ($47.99)

I have my blu-ray player connected by component (which I already had) to my Sony CRT

          A SD CRT? You're ol'school baby! ;)

        • Nope, HD CRT. 86cm (34"). Pretty old school I guess, but unbeatable picture quality.

  • Just a heads up for those who purchased this deal - you might want to pick up a USB key to take advantage of blu-ray live features.

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/41580

    Seems like a decent deal.

  • ok 3 things.

    from the above posts
[1] "Plays h264/mkv/etc from local USB drive or network. " wow thats pretty cool because my current divx player can't play mkv files , well i burnt it on a dual layer dvd and it didn't read it so thats annoying but that'll be cool if it can read any movie format

[2] "It's DVD multi-region. Blu-ray region B only - but Amazon.co.uk and free shipping is generally cheaper than US prices anyway" ok so plays any DVD but then only plays region B blu rays - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blu-ray_Disc#Region_codes
ok so would it be better to wait until they have one that blu-ray multi-region? assume this will be the case in the next 6 months or so unless its already out but at a higher price?

[3] it looks like it has Wi-Fi with it, how does this work? from their website
"Enjoy convenient internet connections with Wi-Fi Integrated and Wi-Fi Ready models. These features enable you to use the BRAVIA Internet TV & Widgets without any additional wires and lets you experience true freedom from cumbersome and messy cables."
even if you establish a wi-fi connection, how the heck do you browse on your tv then?
so essentially my question is how does this work?

    • +1

[2] You can get "modded" blu-ray region free players. They are around $500 last time I looked. I'll let you google the specifics.

[3] It's "wifi-ready" meaning you need to plug a wifi usb key into it to get wifi. It also comes with ethernet, so if you have a cable use that, or any standalone 802.11 access point plugged into the ethernet port.

Alternatively a "ethernet over power" adapter (what I use).

      • [3] yeah but if i get wifi on it, silly question but how do i utilise it?

        • +1

Through the menus. Once you have a working network connection, you'll see all supported media streamers (DLNA, Windows PCs with media sharing etc) on your network, plus you see entries for things like Youtube, iView, SBS etc.

        • interesting, so if i get a wi-fi key, then i can add this to my wireless router and from there can browse the net etc?

what about control interface? assume this wouldn't just go through the remote control, like i'd want to utilise a keyboard or mouse? how does the interface work then?

        • +1

          so if i get a wi-fi key

A compatible key. Not all keys work. I'll let you google to find ones that do. Sony's recommend one is ~$130. A cheap access point would be cheaper and more flexible, and probably give you a better signal.

then i can add this to my wireless router

          Yes.

and from there can browse the net etc?

No. You can only use the built in application "BRAVIA Internet Video" to access specifically supported video and music sites.

          Details here:
          http://www.sony.com.au/microsite/iptv2/iptv_home.html

        • hmmm so need to find a cheap and compatible key lol

but certainly it looks pretty cool, assume its free to access their channels etc

cool, thanks for your help with my questions Chris :)

    • You can get $99 house-brand BD players from JB etc that have multi-region ability. You have to manually switch though.
      See whirlpool.

Forget the wifi dongle. Just get a cheap access point repeater, and plug all your lounge/home-theater items into it.

The built-in iView client is the icing on the cake for these Sony players.
Funny how while one arm of Sony is suing people left and right, and hacking their PCs, another arm makes these players that are just perfect for downloaded content.

      • silly question, how does an access point repeater work? and then interface with all the lounge/home-theater items?

so its a access point that connects to the wireless router to enable whatever is plugged into it, internet access.

if i plugged items to the access point, then how will the interface work to the internet? like for this sony, they have this bravia internet video.

so if i did get this for the blu ray, how would it work?
suppose you could send a link to an ebay search so i can examine from ther?

  • just a head up, the deal is available at sanity stores. i got one tonight, apparently they decided to start it early.

    • No in all stores yet, apparently. I checked Shepparton Market Place Sanity yesterday around lunchtime and they had nothing there. Didn't ask specifically though.

  • Bought the deal, was delivered in two days and is now my new media centre.
Plays all regions and is fantastic. Thank you for posting this deal it has been great for me.

  • Just picked one up at Southland in Melbourne. Excellent choice of Blu Rays to save you $15 delivery charge if you can be bothered. Assistant said they had about 20 of the players, as opposed to last time when they had about 50.
