YouTube Premium (AdFree YouTube, YouTube Music, Google Music) for ~A$4.23 (No Fee Card) Per Month (Russian VPN Required)

3770

Similar to doweyy's deal on cheaper Netflix, the users at Mydealz have worked out a way to get cheaper Youtube Premium. Everything mentioned in doweyy's post applies here e.g. no fee credit card so I'll just keep things simple.

Youtube Premium will give you access to -
• Ad-free videos: Watch videos without interruptions
• Save offline: Save videos and songs on your mobile device to watch offline
• Background play: Keep videos or music playing when using other apps or when your screen’s off
• Audio mode: Listen to audio only on the YouTube Music app
• Google Play Music Subscription (when available in your country) is included at no additional cost

Current pricing is $14.99 per month in Australia whereas Russia is 199 RUB which works out to be about A$4.23 per month. This workaround should work for new and existing customers.

Again, the trick to making this work is having access to a VPN service. If you're signed up to one then the rest of the process should be fairly simple.

Instructions -
1. Connect a VPN to the server Russia
2. View YouTube.com then click on your profile picture in the top right corner and change the location from Russia to Australia.
3. Click on this link, then click on Learn more.
4. Enter Russian address and pay by credit card.
Termination takes place under this link
Example of a Russian address.
City: My City
Street: My street 1
State: Tulskaya oblast
Postcode: 300000

Noob question - do you need to have the VPN running whenever you use the service or just for registration?

    • +8

      It's just for registration.

      • Cheers!

    • +2

Still waiting for the next “ three month trail” here …

      • Google music trial is long running promo. Just search google music in search above.

    • +4

not a noob question.. realy good question

  • +1

If I cancel my current Google Play Music subscription, will I lose my playlists/saved/uploaded songs?

    • +1

I don't think so. I've had mine lapse a couple of times and when I've gone back and set it up again everything was still there exactly as before. Though I was just reestablishing the same subscription, so it might be different if you go from Google Play Music to YouTube Premium in a different country, but I don't think so, I think it'll be fine.

    • +3

Worked and I didn't lose any data!

    • No

  • +3

Can you pay for a whole year on this?

    • i didnt see that option, monthly only

  • +2

Can you pay upfront for a year?

  • +2

Mine says 249RUB after the free trial ends.
Wait: that’s in the iPhone app. Going through browser shows as 199

    • Nice catch!

    • Google pass Apple's cut onto the customer. Means discount iTunes cards are not useful for this…

  • +3

So… is there anything similar for Dropbox?

Population of Aussies living in Tulskaya oblast increased all of sudden

  • MS and the NBA among others have got the shits with such workarounds, I can't see this ending well.

    • +4

What has the NBA been doing? I've done this the last few seasons (including this season) and haven't heard boo from the NBA. They better not cancel my sub.

    • I did a similar thing for Spotify. I've been using a Philippines Spotify account for 18 months with no issues

      • -8

        Same here, but shhh!
When things like this make it to the front page of sites like this, the companies find out and patch them.

Edit: lol at "top hits in Philippines"

Pinoy Rap is my main jam

    • It’s not just us in Aus you know. Plenty of people in US does it as well

    • -3

I know I'm getting negged because it's selfish not to share these things (maybe a few for my little jab at Apple) but what's the point of sharing if it's going to be taken away anyway?

      • How do you know it will be taken away???

        • It always happens when things become well known. In this case, their analytics will pick up that lots of people from these third world countries are suddenly signing up and then living in Australia. Meanwhile, Australia is losing users.

Other things we lost when they became popular include:

          GST-free imports for cheap things
          (Amazon.com purchases)

          VPN US Netflix

          Unregulated crypto currencies

          Reliable adblock

General vpn usage (without captchas, and being blocked by some sites like gamespot)

You don't think we'll lose more "hacks" when they become mainstream?

    • +2

      You just need to adapt.
      Install an adblock-blocker-blocker.

  • is youtube premium worth it??

    • +4

I liked it, and when I had no ads, watched more Youtube than normal.

At $4 a month, I'd pay for it, however at the normal price, I didn't find sufficient value.

      • I guess you haven't heard that you can block ads for free.

        • +12

Except when streaming on a T.V. Is there away around that too?

          • @neo: What exactly are you using on the TV? There probably is a way around it.

          • +1

@neo: You need to run a DNS blocking solution at the router level. Or use something like PiHole

          • +8

@neo: Install SmartYouTubeTV on an Android TV, and YouTubeVanced on your phone or tablet.

            • @OZB Al: TIL! Thanks mate, didn't have anything for my Sony Android TV (granted I never really looked)

              • @Arcticviper: I'd expect you should be able to side load the Smart YouTube TV Stable version apk, if not try the "MiTV2 and Mystery versions primarily intended for the specific device users but you may try them too." But I've never tried a Sony, so can't say.

                • @OZB Al: Yup, I've sideloaded a couple of apps. It was pretty easy so hopefully this works as well.

              • @Arcticviper: My sony tv won't let me install these apps

I specifically went for Google Music over Spotify with a family sub, because you get YouTube Red (Now premium?) thrown in etc. $17.99 a month for 6 users is pretty phenomenal value I reckon.

      • Is that the Russian price as looks like aus price

      • So, how do you find it with having to have a payment device open to all members? As I have it now, I share the same account with my family members, and the payment device for the sub is not accessible without confirmation (paypal, requires signin). They used to allow streaming on multiple devices on this plan but then changed it. Was super annoying. So now I go to see about allowing multiple streams and seems I have to set it up as a family plan. And they won’t accept paypal, only a credit card.

It doesn’t really jive with me, that I’d be financially responsible for their purchases and have less control than I do now.

      • I am pretty sure I get charged $23 due t the prices going up. How did you get $17

    • yeah man. we got the family account and split it 5 ways. $3.60 a month per person!

      • Can I get the 6th spot off you?

        • +1

          No thanks

    • +1

im happily paying for the Family Package. GPM is far better than Apple Music (imo). I think i noticed a slightly smaller library than Spotify, but the ability to add up to 50000 personal songs really covers all bases. So ye I have Youtube Premium mainly for GPM, but also no YT Ads is a plus, downloading Youtube video's locally to the ipad for offline viewing for the little one is a bonus.

    • +2

google music was more value to me, the family rate at $17/month for 5 users means $3.xx/pp . Paired with unlimited music streaming by phone provider (virgin) I've tracked on my phone that i stream up to 5gb of music per month. With Google music, haven't needed to pirate music or bother uploading new music onto my phone.

Ad-free youtube to me is only noticeable when I visit friends, and I see the ads and thinking WTF is this crap.

      • I asked above “So, how do you find it with having to have a payment device open to all members? As I have it now, I share the same account with my family members, and the payment device for the sub is not accessible without confirmation (paypal, requires signin). They used to allow streaming on multiple devices on this plan but then changed it. Was super annoying. • I like it because the next played songs are gerbally a mix for me of things I've heard before or same/similar genre and prefer it over Spotify etc.

Also sometimes I want to listen to vids as podcasts

  • +3

step 3 after clicking on 'Learn More' I am not getting an option to enter an address or join. How do i proceed from here?

  • If you have premium service.. Does it work on 10 devices?

    • not at the same time

Will this make Russian videos pop up as suggested videos around Youtube once subscribed? This happens with my Spotify Philippines subscription where local playlist show on top.

I just use Youtube Vanced on android. No ads and free.

    • I used to be using Youtube++ on iOS last year, until the developer stopped updating it.

    • Cool, I've been using some hacked apk. I'll switch to this when I get my next phone or when my apk stops working.

Mostly into the play in the background feature.

      • +3

Youtube Vanced has that also (background play)

    • root required?

      • +3

no root needed. Using it on my Galaxy S7 no root.

        • Thanks, it works. too easy. everyone can do it.

    • -1

      One day it'll stop working.

    • is there a PC equivalent of this???

    • Can't get it to follow my history etc, known issue

      • +1

Instructions say "You will have to install additional MicroG package in order to be able login." Works fine for me.

        • Done and redone
          It's a known issue

  • If anyone wants to make a family membership I'll gladly join. Pm me

    • +2

Anyone know the pricing for family membership?

      • I'm wondering this as well. I already have the family membership for my family, so the location checks don't matter for me.

Edit: According to the original deal link, it's 299 RUB = $6.09 AUD. Hot damn!!

    • +2

I like the idea too but believe Google checks your location for a family membership.

      https://support.google.com/youtubemusic/thread/168995?hl=en

      " Household location
      Household location requirements
To be eligible to share a YouTube family plan, all family members must live at the same residential address as the family manager. This will be confirmed by electronic check-ins every 30 days."

      • +3

I can confirm this. Tried to share it with my Brother-in-law located in Hong Kong and it comes back with a declined message after a while. The geoblocking kicks in after a while.
Even when I was overseas, the premium features weren't available and I was getting ads in my Youtube too. So not sure about this deal in general.

        • Premium is only in a few countries. I was in Singapore and Malaysia a few weeks ago and found this out. So I just used a VPN to connect back through Australia to use the features

    • I thought family membership is US only for now?
