  • Here we go again. Deal or no deal?

    • +19

No deal, this is RRP and there is no shortage of stock at the moment

      • +1

That being said, other than 11% cashback and free delivery. By pre-ordering it, if Amazon matches cheaper offers, as they often do, the price you pay will automatically drop as well.

That being said, still not a bargain.

Are you able to find me somewhere selling this for $149 with free delivery?

        • +4

          JB-HI-FI, Harvey Norman and Big W $149 free pick-up

          • -6

@mobbahobba: Great! How about the question I asked you?

            • +2

@Gabehcoud: Technically not a deal by the rules, sorry. But thanks for the effort and thinking of posting on OzB anyway. I'm having to keep my hand from just buying it for the hell of it (won't remotely have time to play anything).

              • +2

@HighAndDry: Yeah…bit of a soft spot for original PS here too. When it inevitably comes on sale under $100 I might be tempted, just because …well…mini PS! It should have Doom though. Destruction Derby is the only title out of that lot that I ever played on PS (mainly because I think it came with it).

                • @Banj0: So many good memories. FF7? RE? MGS! Tekken and Rainbow 6 as well. I surprisingly never played the original GTA, only started with GTA2.

          • -3

@mobbahobba: I'm guessing by your lack of response you're looking up the word delivery and comparing that with the phrase pick up?

    • +1

      11% cashback with free delivery…

    • +2

Yeah no deal. RRP for a console with no stock shortage.
Just commenting so I can neg.
Terrible lineup. Give me an SNES mini any day of the week.

    • No deal. Why buy the replica when I still have the original? It's not that old to have the same nostalgic effect.

    • +1

      RRP price, no deal here.

      • -2

Are you able to find me somewhere selling this for $149 with free delivery?

  • +6

My fave part of this product is that it uses an open source emulator under the covers.

    • +3

Can only hope it's as easy as the SNES classics to add games to. That way I can buy this, load it up with the games I want and then put it back in the box and into the cupboard next to my SNES classic.

      • Can you download old PS1 games? Also I think they will be much bigger than SNES roms

        • Not on ROM sites anymore, I'm guessing only torrents and p2p.

        • +1

USB Storage can be added to SNES Classic…. If (big IF, I know) the Sony is as lazily put together (on purpose?), someone will figure out how to add expandable memory.

          • @So lo: Pretty sure expandable memory will happen along with exploit. Only problem will be finding the ROMs

  • +8

These won't be selling out…. It will be under 100 soon enough

    • +2

Probably still over priced then too :-)

  • Get a raspberry PI/PC stick and run an emulator on it. Sony does not deserve your money with this console even if it's $100.

    • +1

Deal vs piracy ? Thats not the same .

      • How is that piacy when they themselves use an OPEN SOURCE emulator with the console?

        • +4

They own the right to publish those games with the console. Downloading games and running them yourself isn’t legal.

        • They own the roms though. You can run the open source emulator all you want mate, but how will you get a game to run on it? You download it illegally.

          • @onlinepred: Pretty sure no one would have called downloading 20 year old games illegal before Sony came around and did this. This is just a cash grab so they can exploit their loyal customers to make money off legendary games. Is that ok to you? not to me, I'd rather pirate.
When companies make poor products and treat you like a joke then is it really so bad if you don't want to give them even more money?

            • +2

@Ostrk: Would you prefer they didn't offer anything Retro at all?

              • -1

                @onlinepred: Yes.
Either give something good, or nothing at all. I would never say that if there wasn't a way to play old games, but there is! there has been for years!. Emulators are really good nowadays and work totally fine, but if Sony want to kill that business and make money off those games then they better do a half-decent job at it at the very least otherwise it's just a spit in the face for local customers (which they have a lot of)

Not the same but look at Xbox. They're offering a few OG Xbox games that work with the console you ALREADY BOUGHT that run in better resolution and 60FPS! and they're not making you pay $150 for a piece of plastic running an emulator in order to play them. It's like people will excuse Sony for anything just because of the huge success of the PS4.

Is it piracy to download those games onto an emulator? sure. Is it morally wrong? no.

                • @Ostrk: Sony had an online platform that lets you stream PS2 and PS3 Games on PS4. Of course not in Australia yet.

I wouldn't but an Xbox as your can run Xbox games on PC going forward.

For the average Joe, this is great, they don't need to break the law or do anything dodgy, just buy this and it works

      • Get off your soapbox.

      • +1

You call it piracy, I call it preservation. Plus, you dont have to pirate the games to emulate them….I use my own ps2 discs for ps2 emulation for e.g

They will keep releasing classic console after classic console, while an emulator will run these at 4k 60+ no problem forever without needing to spend $150 on a piece of long outdated hardware that really should be selling for $20.

Only reason it is $150 is because of nostalgia. Nothing more.

Its not even an official playstation lol.

  • junk
age has not been kind to these games

    • +2

Neither have digital displays. Run these on an old-school CRT or don't run them at all I'd say.

  • +1

At least Nintendo developed their own emulator that was more accurate than existing ones (for select games). Compared to this lazy cash grab using open source code written by others.

  • +2

The weird part is that this thing uses the PCSX emulator which has been free and publicly available for years, originally developed by pirates. Sony just put it on cheepo hardware. Only reason to buy it is the nostalgia factor or maybe as a collectors item. If you want the games just look up a tutorial online, will take you 3 hours but will save you 150 dollary doos

    STOP FIGHTING!!!

    • I don't like it when mummy and daddy fight

      :'(

  • And no crash bandicoot???

    • +1

I guess with the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy that would take away from what little they already had to work with.

      • The trilogy is remastered though. I don't see why they couldn't have included the OG titles on this thing.

        • +1

Yea there is that about it. People are already upset about the titles so had they included it we would be seeing "but we've already had this game in better graphics a few months ago" etc.

    • and the n sane was re released for ps4 the original first game was cake.

    • Sony wouldn't have the exclusive rights anymore since it is releasing on other platforms. Same as Spiro, time limited exclusives.

  • terrible collection of games. i wonder if there is a simulated 3-5 minute load time for extra authenticity.

its not playstation without time crisis or point blank

    • +1

I'm not up on Light Guns but is there anything that works well with LCD? One reason I kept a CRT was so I could keep using that… Been a few years with a CRT sitting around collecting dust.

      • +1

cant be done. wiimotes would probably be the closes, but doesnt compare to the way things used to be

    • Lightguns don't work on modern TVs. :(

  • Can we get SNES bingo back for these posts

  • +1

    RRP is not a bargain.

    • -1

Are you able to find me somewhere selling this for $149 with free delivery?

      • +1

Free delivery is irreverent. Sorry. The actual product is RRP. Postage is never factored into the RRP.

        • [Pre-Order] PlayStation Classic Console $149 Delivered @ Amazon AU ?

EDIT: Added some more info :)

  • +1

Rrp is not a deal, ozbargain not ozstock

    • After Cashrewards you can't get it any cheaper elsewhere…

      • I rather spend the extra couple $$$$ and pick it up on the day instead of having to wait for it to be delivered or picking it up from the post office anyway as I'm not always home.

Delivered means nothing, if you consider delivery a bargain, not everyone thinks like you

        • +3

What happened to Ozbargain, not Ozconvenience? Amazon leave if no one is home… It's about getting something cheaper or on better terms than elsewhere. Just because it doesn't suit your ideal doesn't mean it's useless to others.

  • +2

I guess we should just post every other item sold on Amazon for above $50 as seperate deals if that’s all it takes to qualify as a ‘bargain’?

    • If it's not available on the same terms anywhere else and newly listed I think it's a good idea :)

    • There with you, such a stupid idea but will be considered a bargain by some ;)

  • I personally don't see the point as my PS3 runs PS1 games natively.

  • +1

If the only actual "bargain" is Amazon's free delivery, shouldn't this be removed as its a duplicate of pretty much every other Amazon post?

  • +1

RRP is not a deal. Free postage/pickup can be had at other places too. No sick shortages either.

    • Op considers this a deal
