You better list that it’s limited to 20 units, gives everyone a realisation that they probably won’t be able to get one :p

    • +1

      No worries done.

      • +6

Ironically I just bought one! Haha

  • +1

Why that cheap. I thought they are over 1k cards.

    • +2

Not the 2070. The 2080 are over 1k.

      • +1

        Ok thanks

      • +1

incorrect some of the top rtx 2070 cards are $1200-1300 aud https://www.pccasegear.com/products/44377?PPC=Y&gclid=CjwKCA…

        • wow, almost 2x difference. Doubt they're 2x faster though.

          • +2

            @yoba: $1209 for a 2070!

            The world has gone nuts!

            • @reddead2067: yes… Crypto nuts

              • @scud70: Im gonna be honest with you its nothing to do with crypto as asus actually launched the strix model at this price even some of the msy ones are over 1k only the mid tier 2070s are alright for the price but the top tier ones with custom cooling and shit are over 1k its how they launched the rrp price

                • @ShotzzAU: :) i was joking… just based on how much demand there is for top gfx cards because of the "boom"

                • @ShotzzAU: does custom cooling worth that much extra?

                  • @yoba: depends how good it is if its top notch like asus/msi those models are usually 300-500 dollars more then the founders edition

                  • @yoba: it also has performance increase

      • 2070 price ranges from $800-$1,000 I'm pretty sure.

As per PC part picker, this one's around $900

  • +2

I just got free shipping as well

    • Looks like they messed up when they initially put RTX2080 in email blast. Hence why they are giving free shipping now for that item.

  • +3

Whilst it's very tempting, I want to wait until black friday is in full swing. I am still hoping for a 2080 to go on sale although I doubt it.

    • yeah me too…it's a very tempting deal indeed but want to see what's on offer on Black Friday

      • +1

        Maybe some discounted 1080's?

        • some discussion on Reddit seems to say there are 2 variants of 2070, the cheaper one seems to be on par with 1080 while the other one is an upgrade

          • +1

@frugalbat: All RTX GPUs come in two flavours:

            • A-list (factory OC)
            • Regular (stock clocks)

This is a stock card, but this is also a good price.

            • @jasswolf: So the A-List one is the upgrade? Is there a simple way to tell?

              • @aragornelessar: Read the post again: you check the clocks versus the reference clocks. This is a regular 2070. Almost every model out there is either branded OC or not, which is another great indicator.

I'd also not advise upgrading from a 1070 or 1080. These cards are designed around playing 4k60/4k120 on high/ultra , and if that's not you, there's absolutely no reason to upgrade right now.

                • +1

@jasswolf: im planning on 2k 144hz. I think at minimum you would want 1080 or better for it to go a few years. for 1080p gaming though, a 1060/70 will be fine

                  • @Archfear: A 2070 will be chasing 100-120 FPS in AAA non-FPS games soon enough, which often lack the pacing of action that necessitates a high frame rate.

If it's a brand new build, definitely go for the 2070, but if you aren't getting the monitor any time soon don't bother with deals like this right now. Cards will be cheaper in the new year, particularly once we have firm info about Navi specs and launch timings.

                • @jasswolf: Just curious, but would that mean the normal cards would just require a manual overclock to get close to the A-list cards?

Or are the A-list cards just the best picked silicon?

                  • +1

@N1NJ4W4RR10R: All silicon is voltage tested on the wafer, and the strongest sections wind up as A-list. There's further testing down the line for cards (which will vary), but that's how an A-list GPU is picked.

So ultimately, there's significant performance overlap, but generally take it to mean that at the same voltage, it will clock as much as 5% slower.

The biggest problem is what the max voltage is for the normal GPUs, and if the board manufacturer has a high enough power limit to make use of that. I've not seen any normal GPUs that go about +15% power limits, while the best OC cards get up to +30%.

All in all, you're looking at a 5-8% performance gap between the best card and the worst card.

          • @frugalbat: OK nice. :)

    • Depending on what you're after and the budget, you can find the odd deal here and there through coupon/cashback stacking.

Last Friday I picked up my ASUS Strix 2080 for $1300; eBay vendor 10% off, eBay code 10% off, $50 off through Paypal giftcards. For potentially another ~$140 off, I'm contemplating whether it's worth the risk/effort of claiming GST through TRS…

      • On another note, can we just appreciate the looks of the strix series?

        • +1

Oh yeah, they look pretty awesome, but sadly I can only appreciate it when my case is open QQ

  • +1

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/417076 shows this is pretty good value then

  • +2

Fingers crossed for a Gigabyte(or Asus, but they aren't cheap) deal. Can't fit MSI custom cards in my case.

  • +3

    (profanity) what a steal, ordered!
also the insurance cover shipping is free, so you might as well use it

  • +13

these are basically on par performance wise with the GTX1080. Ray tracing is almost unusable on this card though (unless you don't mind <50FPS @ 1080p) https://youtu.be/SpZmH0_1gWQ?t=538

    • +4

thanks for the downvotes but if im wrong, how about you man up and comment?

      • +4

I'm late to this with the downvote, but it's pretty straight forward to see that neither the drivers or BFV are anywhere near optimised right now, and we haven't even seen what DLSS, DLSS 2x and mesh shading features can do yet.

There is a lot of untapped performance in these cards right now, and we'll start to see what they're really capable of over the next 6 months (DLSS being the soonest implemented feature set).

You'd be much safer in comparing this to a 1080ti, so no one should be buying this over a 1080 or 1080ti given they've already hit EOL. We'll see further discounts on 1060 6GB and 1070 cards soon, and they'll run through until at least the end of January.

        • +4

Ugh, I clearly meant people shouldn't be buying a 1080 or 1080ti over this… my bad

          • +1

@jasswolf: It's all good. I wasnt recommending anything with my post. It was basically to give some performance context.

As it stands right now, all reviews stick it on par (or slightly above) the gtx1080. If someone is in the market for a new gpu and was considering a 1080 this is a good purchase - especially at this price. Just don't expect magic with rtx on (which is what they marketed these cards with).

If you've got a 1070 or 1080 and were only interested in these new cards for ray tracing, you'll probably be disappointed.

If you're in no rush, id watch this space for a couple of months to see what game Devs and NVIDIA come up with

    • Dont worry. + for you.

    • All the rrreeeees aside….can we just appreciate how <50 is considered unusable!

*That guy that's only just got a gaming PC.

Edit - Just some entertainment on my side by the way. Absolutely not unreasonable to ask for 60fps on a (normally) 1k+ card's main feature.

  • I'd watch this before buying raytracing card…

  • +3

I just want to note that shipping is free, even the auspost / insurance / courier option that was $35 to melbourne. So i don't see any downside for selecting that over the $9.95 shipping option that also gets marked down to $0.

  • +11

At this price, regardless of Ray tracing or not, this outperforms a 1080.

Also Ray tracing is in its infancy stages at the moment, there are certainly plenty of opportunities for it to improve in games and thus the resources of the card would be put to better use.

    • +2

agree, this price is just too good to pass on

    • +1

Absolutely! This isn't to far off 1070(ti) pricing (if I've got my numbers right).

  • +1

    none left. sold out

    • I'm holding out for black friday, hope this is not the last..
