FLIC Button 4-Pack 50% off $78.99 USD / $109.13 AUD Inc Shipping Using 28 Degrees @ FLIC.io

Hi All,

Great Black Friday price for these home automation buttons.

Price reduction also on:

Flic 1-pack $35USD down to $24.49
Flic Glow 3-pack $120USD down to $59.99
Flic Hub Pack $224USD down to $164

Buying them to use mainly as switches for my LIFX lights since I'm growing weary of having to carry my phone around the house all the time.
Aside from light switches they're (from my research) one of the most comprehensive button options for home automation. Can be used with Samsung Smartthings, Assistant, and a whole stack of other services.

Compared them to Logiotech POP buttons and have purchased these over the POP due to not requiring a hub, and for me these look a bit better and I think have stronger app support.

Assuming 90% of people on here have a Nvidia Shield. Flic app can be sideloaded onto the shield which then operates as a hub. In my case the Shield's bluetooth won't reach the other end of my house - so there I will plug in an old Samsung Galaxy S6 which will operate as the hub there.

Not sure when the deal actually expires, but best get in quick - website says "TODAY ONLY"

Happy Flicing!

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2018

  • Ouch. Expensive…

Grab an Echo Dot or Google Mini and just yell at your lights :)

Works a treat for me with Lifx and Xiaomi Yeelights (tho Yeelights run through IFTTT)

    • Yes, agreed - that's my current control method (with phone) although these are a little more "wife friendly" and better for guests.
Plus having to set up a Mini in each room is more expensive.
Entire place is wired up with LIFX…Except my hallway…hrm you've just reminded me - time to get that missing LIFX!

I'm going to make a touchscreen controller with an ESP8266 and a 2.8" touchscreen. About $15 worth of kit then 3d print a case.

        • I kept getting sucked into the rabbit hole of DIY devices and just couldn't keep going. I don't have enough programming know-how. $100 vs opportunity cost of fiddling around seemed like a clear win.

That said, when you bring your device to life, drop me a PM and I'll buy one off you!

      • Amazon were selling the Alexas for $18 the other day. Still cheaper than these.

I'm using the Xiaomi buttons to control a house full of LIFX bulbs (also have Alexa setup for same if preferred). The gateway was about $30, but the buttons set me back between $5 and $10 on various deals here in the past. I also use Home Assistant as part of that.

They work perfectly and allow for a bunch of different options, e.g single click to toggle ceiling lights, double click to dim, long press to turn all ceiling lights on full brightness, as well as the lamp.

Or you can use the body sensor to switch the lights on when you walk into the room in the evening instead of even reaching for the button ;)

      • True, yes I do that in a number of rooms.

    • Can i ask, for double click to dim. What automation did you use for this?

Here's my Home Assistant code from automations.yaml:

        - alias: LIFX dim double
          trigger:
            platform: event
            event_type: click
            event_data:
              entity_id: binary_sensor.switch_158d12319c8XYZ
              click_type: double
          action:
            service: light.turn_on
            data:
              entity_id:
                - light.bedroom
              brightness: 15
              transition: 1

    • Mhhh … how did you get the Xiaomi buttons to work with LIFX? Seems like a cheap way of doing this … but I would not know how to set this up?

      • Its pretty easy. One raspberry pie. Install home assistant on it. Buy some switches and a home gateway and then the home assistant website is pretty good to get you up and running.

Its not completely idiot proof but, you have to have a general working knowledge of tech and some patience for trial/error as you test the automation.

If you are happy to commit a few hours learning something new go the home assistant route.

Yep. As other poster has said:

        1. Grab a Raspberry Pi.
        2. Install Hass.io on it.
        3. Connect to Xiaomi Gateway
        4. Profit?

A little bit of one-off work. However, you will then have a central hub that can bring together all of the different smart home devices you have, rather than having a stack of different apps on your phone.

  • These have to work through your phone as a hub because they are Bluetooth?? … so if your not home then they don't work?

    • Yes if you use your phone as a hub.

No if you buy their hub or if you have a static android device. Eg. I'm using a shield.

      • Ahh OK so other options exist.. it was not clear form a quick overview.
