  • How much is shipping?

    • +2

Depends where you are of course but approx $12 for most areas of Australia. There is a freight estimate on the product page where you can put in your postcode and it will tell you exactly.

      • Thankyou.

  • Don't think the 1tb price is showing online.

    • +1

It is you have go through links OP

    • +1

Yep as FireRunner said you have to follow the link in this post as stated above also.

      • My bad

        • No worries :)

    This vs Samsung 860 SATA?

    • Even I am wondering about the same.

    • +4

On paper at least it looks pretty comparable. Definitely the EVO series tend to be held up as the gold standard of SSDs (with good reason!) but I would say these are totally fine as well - especially at this price.

      • +3

Spooky - took too long to write it up (pesky job got in the way), your comment appeared at refresh and ended up using the same terminology.

Now I look like one of those clowns that posts the same comment hours behind everyone else /s.

Scary - took longer than expected to write up (work got in the way), your comment appeared after I refreshed the page and ended up covering the same thing

Comparable in all metrics, on paper.

      Read/write (MB/s): Seagate 560/540, Samsung 550/520
      Read/write (IOPS): Seagate 90K/90K, Samsung 98K/90K
      TBW : Seagate 485, Samsung 600
      MTBF (hrs) : Seagate 1.8M, Samsung 1.5M
      Warranty : both 5 years

Stacking the various discounts on the 860 right now makes it the cheaper deal.

      • Stacking the various discounts on the 860 right now makes it the cheaper deal.

Possibly on the 1TB, but is there a 500GB EVO for less than $91 delivered somewhere?

        • The above numbers are all for the 1TB (TBW and such vary by size).

          However, optimum stacking of
          PRIZER,
          cashrewards,
pre-purchased ebay GC at 10% off,
          ebay+ and
          Samsung cashback ..
          a 500GB 860 Evo is
          $149 -20% -1% -10% -$15 -
or a few cents away from $91.
About $95 if you can only get the 5% off ebay GC.

Right but that doesn't say a lot about real world performance …

      QLC(Seagate) vs TLC (Samsung)

QLC can pack more data into a smaller area than existing flash generations, but is also vastly more sensitive to wear upon writes

      Lower endurance is the catch

  • oh damn!!! i bought the crucial mx 500gb yesterday from Mwave. oh well,, i guess it can't be helped that prices of storage devices will fall week after week. =(

    • And the problem with Mwave is that you cannot return the product, they charge freaking 20% charge on the same

    • I'm trying to hold out for six months because supposedly SSD prices are gonna halve again in 2019 …

lets get a repeat on this one

    • Ahh that deal was really limited sorry. Won't be a repeat of something like that for a long while.

      • Any word on Samsung EVO QLC ssd's? Will you be stocking them anytime this year?

        • dont by those

          poor sustained read write

im hoping regular ssds will drop in price when those come out

          • @furythree: Yeah, now that I read the article, the prices on those don't make sense. They're more expensive than the standard 860 Evo's.

          • @furythree: The manufacturers can play the pricing game where regular ssd be Value range and QLC equiped storage be Economical range. Then you still have the premium range, pro range, high end and ultra high end range.

It's hard for the prices to change overnight when you have under 5 major manufacturers price fixing the worlds supply. A few new 3D nand fabs in China should come online now and supply shortage should be solved by now but prices are still not as low as it should be.

        • No word just yet sorry.

      • That wasn't the reply I was looking for - please go sit in the corner until you have something nice to say :P

  • +4

Holy smokes that price is low. Prices of all SSD seem to be going down that I dont even know if this will be a good deal by end of the month.

    • +2

I keep thinking "Perhaps I should buy a new SSD" then I think "I don't need it, and by the time I need one they'll probably be $15, so I should wait."

      • definitely wait

new models are coming thats why

        • From what I understand, the new tech coming out has been quad level, which gives higher density, but [so far] slower speeds.

  • +5

Nice deal OP! Any chance you’ll be doing m.2 NVmE SSD in the near future? Need me some m.2 goodness :)

    • +2

I wish for this myself - prices aren't coming down at the same rate as SATA based unfortunately :(

      • My Order 1029424 is not delivered till date.Australia Post told me today that they have not received the parcel from sender and they have received the manifesto only.my time has been wasted on chasing the item which has never been shipped.

  • Nice price. Will be great for my new PS4

  • Great price. If SSD prices continue to drop I may be able to replace my second HDD drive with one

  • 1TB SSD for $149 is tempting….i dont think i can resist any longer…..

No chance of the 4k monitor or the "gaming chair" being back on sale?

    • No chance, sorry. Maybe next Black Friday.

    • +1

That $199 4k monitor was ridiculous, I wish i was online when that deal came up.

  • I can't order online and pay in store?

    • Click & Collect orders do require payment in advance, yep.

      • Can I order now and pickup straight away using PayPal or will I need to wait for an email to say it's ready?

        • You will get an email when it's actually ready to collect - it will have to physically be picked and scanned by our warehouse staff and all the other stuff that goes on in the background. I won't say "straight away" but it should be quite quick.

          • @Cair22: Hi Op, I am still getting $299 for the 1TB option, how can i get it to $149?

          • @Cair22: Im still waiting or my email. I placed an order within 30min of the original post and still havent got an email saying its ready to pickup. It has pending status on scorptec website and also says payment has been processed through paypal. I was hoping to pickup on monday atleast.

            • @cmanc: can you PM me your email? I'll take a look for you.

    QLC…

Linus has a good recent review on QLC SSD's. In short I'm staying clear of them, it doesn't look like a good long term investment.

    • +3

good catch, QLC is the cheaper end of things in SSDs, Samsung releasing the 860 QVO.

The current Samsung Evos are on sale are TLC which are much better in terms of endurance

      • +1

Yep, endurance is the big word. I think there could be future headaches in these (any QLC based chips). At the very least, performance is going to slow over time a lot more than people will expect from an SSD. For secondary storage probably not a problem, for an OS drive? RUN AWAY!

It seems very few are aware of what QLC is. Linus's explanation. Like him or hate him, it's an interesting review.

        • Yeah it will probably disintegrate the moment you install the OS. Would be good if it came with a 5 year warranty…

          • @sallan75: QLC nand performance will erode over time that's fact not opinion. Therefor the constant read/writes of an OS drive isn't the ideal use. Who cares about warranty if it's the speed of a mechanical HDD in a few years time. Warranty won't cover poor performance.

To be fair, this Seagate SSD is NOT QLC based, thanks XZT for correcting me.

    • +2

I'm confused. Where are you getting the QLC spec from?

      https://www.seagate.com/www-content/datasheets/pdfs/barracud…
Datasheet has the Seagate SSDs as 3D TLC.

While your post technically doesn't claim that these particular SSDs are QLC, others are interpreting it like that. If they were QLC, why didn't they get as much attention as the Samsung 860 QVO?

      • +1

You know what, you're right. I humbly apologise, these are TLC based not QLC! Lazy googling on my part.

What I said about QLC stands but those comments don't apply to THIS SEAGATE SSD.

  • +2

Good price. Shipping kills it for me.

It becomes cheaper to buy the Samsung with the cash back offer.

  • +1

One step closer to $100 for 1TB SSD! That's when I will be buying.

    • +1

      Same.

  • +2

1TB link goes to a deal ended page for me. :(

    • same here - expired?

  • Shame that this is expired

  • 500GB SSD seems to be in stock but for delivery only.
