Hi Everyone,

I sometimes wonder if ozbargain has any users that fit into the following category:

  • Famous people
  • Well known
  • Really rich people

Does anyone know?

Comments

    • That counts! Thanks for sharing.

        *Ahem.*

        • +3

Careful Scrooge, op could be planning a revolution and he's creating a hit list…

    • Ruslan Kogan just bought a $38million house.

      • In australia? wow

        • In Toorak. Why is that a surprise?

            • +12

@smuggler: Yeah, but you're not paying to live on a cliff, you're paying to keep poor people, like you, out. If Melbourne and Sydney are stinking shitholes, where exactly do you live that is so amazing?

              • @[Deactivated]: sydney.

but poor people pass toorak every day. So they're not exactly kept out.

                • -1

@smuggler: surely it filters the riff-raff out of the school catchment though?

                  • @owli: lol. School catchment area. How many public schools do you think are in Toorak? In the entire of Stonnington, comprising of 9 suburbs, there is currently 1 operational public high school, which is Melbourne High, a boys school, which operates from Y9-Y12, and is selective entry only. If you're a girl, you're shit out of luck. Prahran High is opening next year, for select year levels, but basically in Stonnington, if you're a kid, you go to a private school.

                    • @[Deactivated]: Yes, private schools also filters out the riff raff. I actually have no idea about the area, I'm suggesting that generally high socio-economic areas also pay the premium for the catchment, or do the majority of high income earners (180k+ p.a.?) send their kids to private schools?

                      • @owli:

In the leafy streets of Malvern, the state's highest proportion of students attend non-government secondary schools, with 93 per cent enrolled at independent and Catholic schools.

And an overwhelming majority of children from affluent Toorak (90 per cent), Armadale (90 per cent), Caulfield North (87 per cent) and Brighton (86 per cent) also attend non-government secondary schools.

Where do your neighbours send their kids to school?

(Malvern, Toorak and Armadale are all suburbs within Stonnington)

                • +11

@smuggler: And that’s how you add politics into a conversation without anyone noticing guys

                • +1

                  @smuggler: P-Dutz, is that you?

            • +1

@smuggler: I'm no fan of both cities and wouldn't want to live in either but they are hardly 'stinking shitholes'!

            • @smuggler: Toorak is all stately homes and tree lined streets, yeah a real shithole end sarcasm

It's also a 5 minute drive from the centre of the CBD, THAT'S what you're paying for.

      • +2

Something in Aus is worth $38mil?

        • +2

A house in Toorak sold for $52 million on the weekend. Two houses in Sydney last year sold for $100 million. So yes.

  • +2

I'm here, but I'm not letting on which of those categories I fall into.

    • +1

Aren't the 1st and 2nd categories more or less equivalent?

      • Maybe the OP meant famous AND infamous for the other… Or an A grade and then B grade celebrity.

      • -4

        Bikies?

    • +4

      username checks out ;)

    • +2

Going by your username, I'd have to say it's Scott Morrison!

  • +4

I've met some really famous and really rich (multi billionaire) people. Does that count?

    • +2

Nice try paparazzi, but you're not getting me that easily…..

  • +31

  • +7

    Scrooge McDuck?

    • Which category?

  • +8

I gave Shopback a heart attack when I turned up to their OzB party. Apparently I have balls to show my face there. Does that count?

    • +7

You should be the new Shopback rep: gotyourballs.

    • Did you forget to kiss TA's bum at the door?

      • Someone has a crush, cute. Nah this was at Shopback not Cashrewards.

      • You're just jealous that Tightarse loves me and all you can find are loose arses.

        So don't tell Scotty

        • Cause Scotty doesn't know.

  • +5

I'm a legend in my own lunchtime

  • +23

Of course there are really rich people who peruse OzBargain regularly. Wealthy people aren't some alien group of people who don't do anything that normal people do daily, ffs.

I have two people in my family who are stupidly wealthy and they love OzBargain and all three of us had a hilarious conversation at a BBQ (yes wealthy people even attend backyard BBQs too!) a few months ago talking about that forum topic on here with that guy who was stealing electricity from his neighbours pool socket and using the park BBQ every night to cook.

    • I assume you were all laughing at how funny that hoax post was right?… right?

      • +9

I don't recall ever seeing any evidence it was a hoax, just speculation from people that it was because he disappeared pretty quickly, which I assumed was because he realised his extreme level of penny pinching was a step too far even for the people on here and nobody validated his behaviour.

    • +5

That is my favourite OzBargain post of all time 😂🤣

    • Same here. I know a couple who are stupidly wealthy as well, have an enormous McMansion, cars and the toys (and not financed like most fake yuppies).

They frequent Ozbargain more than me, buy and sell heaps of expensive crap from Gumtree and still do the rounds of garage sales nearly EVERY weekend.

  • +5

I have been on a few tv shows. The investigators, 4 corners, 60 minutes.

    • +12

      what next, Australia's most wanted?

      • +1

That'd make it infamous, not 'famous'. Subtle difference.

      • Nah all civil cases, and being somewhat sarcastic

  • +4

Dick Smith is rumored to have an account.
the main guy from harvey norman made there IT department check OzB for price error deals - so is aware at least.
I think I saw george donikian scrolling through on his mobile in an airport, but I couldn't tell for sure.

    • A few big companies keep tabs on here looking for loopholes to close.

    • Most likely Gerry would be here too.

      • +5

He can't be. Gerry could not resist whinging about unfair competition from online retailers.

        • +2

He would neg every deal that had no GST payable

    • +2

      I saw george donikian scrolling

      OzBar̃r̃r̃r̃r̃gain

  • Ernie dingo?

  • +10

    Jules Verne

  • What is the OP defining as "really rich"?

    • +14

Like how most people define it, anyone making $1 more than themselves.

      • +4
        1. Mr Micawber's famous, and oft-quoted, recipe for happiness:

"Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure nineteen [pounds] nineteen [shillings] and six [pence], result happiness. Annual income twenty pounds, annual expenditure twenty pounds ought and six, result misery."

        Charles Dickens, David Copperfield

        • Wealth is in the eye of the beholder.

    • +2

      Lifetime supply of eneloops.

    • +1

OMG that is the greatest haha

    • damn thats gold

    • lmao! I had to look up that tony abbott book post with 111 negs lol. But it seems like it's not there anymore. Was it a photochop or unpublished?

      • Link please, need to vote as well :)

  • +31

I thought everyone was really rich on Ozbargain? No one seems to earn below $100k and everyone seems to be buying high-yielding investment cars….

    • +7

Second class citizens compared to Whirlpool. People are on average $250k + over there.

      • +3

Damn I should spend more time over there. I need more cash for my ozbargain addiction.

    • I wouldn’t call owning a high yielding investment cars as rich and earning above $100k as rich

This is my car from that deal

Behind me are boats more than x10 value and their maintenance costs

Ozbargainer life.. is the tough life

  • -1

How many youtube subs do you need to have to be considered famous? lol

    • +17

I'm subscribed to over 500 channels.

      • +7

        Lol. Username checks out.

  • +12

I don't know how to put this but I'm kind of a big deal.
    People know me.
    I'm very important.
I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany

    • +1

      Ron Burgundy! OMG!!

    • What demographic of people would be most likely to recognise you?

      • +4

I'm definitely most recognised by those in the San Diego area..

Fun fact, San Diego was discovered by the Germans in 1904. They named it San Diego, which of course in German means a whale's vagina

        • If that was a joke or reference to something it's completely gone over my head.

  • +13

I am kind of well known in the adult entertainment industry.

  • +2
