  • is RAM and SSD upgradeable on these models?

    • +3

Not possible… RAM and SSD are soldered onto the motherboard..

      Microsoft SURFACE = Non-upgradable

Any good deals on the Microsoft surface pen?

    • Buy it on Ebay from other sellers, take 10% off with code PLASMA, and another 10% off with gift card purchased with PINCHME

Buy it on Ebay from other sellers

They don't seem to be much cheaper for a new one…

No USB-C not TB ? Welcome to 2016… (speaking as a pissy Surface Pro 3 user who has been waiting for these features before upgrading to a Surface Lappie)

Hell my SP3 is an albeit older i5 with 8GB/256

    • Only the surface book has USB C .

      • And Surface Go

        • Good pick up . I didn't see that the Go had USB-C . Even more crazy then that MS didn't add it onto the latest Pro.

    • +1

Same, SP4 user here. Was about to buy a SP6 yesterday when I realised it didn't have usb-C. Blows my mind that they still don't include it in late 2018, especially when the surface go model has usb-c.

    • Waiting here also want tb3 will be a great device.

    8GB 256GB

got it yesterday from JB , with a Surface Pen and Extended warranty(total 4 yrs) for 1188

loook for for more deals guys in-stores etc

    • Was this an in-store only deal? The best price I could find at JB online was this one?

      • yup in store only
worth to check out at your JB store

    • May I know your link? or your store?

It's called negotiating in store, and not relying on web sales - a great alternative form of haggling/bargaining. YMMV based on which sales person you get.

      • Have no ideas why I got a negative?
What wrong with asking about a deal?

      • broadmeadows VIC
they had a special (Was the last piece , its surface laptop Gen-1 not the Gen-2)

    • Surface laptop 1 or surface laptop 2?

  • great deal, ive been keeping my eye on it
    but isnt this a dupe?

    with
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/423768

    • It's a combination of 2 deals, not sure if it's a dupe.

  • First Gen old stock they are getting rid of since Gen 2 came out.

Good laptop, but lack of USB-C or thunderbolt in 2016 is not cool. Yet they put in Mini-Display port.

Go at least Gen 2 for better specs.

They are also not user upgradable or repairable.

    • I've had a SP4 for few years now, Standard Warranty of 1 year.
Whenever any hardware issue, I just go to Sydney Store and exchange for a new one. Warranty is extended for another year for the new one for free.
      I'm on my third now.

That means only one thing - AVOID. So many good T and X series ThinkPads it there, it's not even a competition.

      • Hey jacktator,

I'm in the process of exchanging a device at the Sydney store currently, would you be able to enable private messaging so I could shoot you a quick question? Cheers

        • PM'd

          • @jacktator: Small questions, do y'all know if MSS Sydney take trade-in? , i want to trade up my current Laptop gen 1 to a sfb because it just cannot run linux distros (keyboard is unusable) :(

  • Oh boy, that's a lot of gift cards to buy, only $25 and $50 denominations left.

    • +2

There are a few different listings for gift cards.. Search through the comments

      • Thanks, will do.

I agree that the price is a bargain compared to RRP. However in terms of actual worth I would be hesitant to pay so much for something so outdated techwise. The jump between 7th gen and 8th gen processors is very significant. You are going from dual core to quad core with significant performance and power improvements. 4gb of RAM is crap. The build quality of these machines is superb but the price for the tech is still too high. These machines are too expensive for kids to use and too far outdated in terms of tech that simple things like browsing the web etc will become a slow task. I'd say avoid this laptop and buy the cheaper Thinkpad line or something with an 8th gen processor and minimum 8gb ram.

For $1199.20, I personally would rather get the 128GB laptop 2 for $1268 to get extra 2 cores, combine with harvey norman Amex to get it further down.

    • Thoughts on surface pro 6 vs surface laptop 2? HN have it for 1138 atm for similar specs. Or is it just down to personal preference?

  • no gen 2??

    • Checkout 2nd Gen at Harvey Norman, 15%~20% Off on Surface Products. Double dip with 14% Amex Offers. Roughly 30% Off.

      • should I wait until christmas? 8gb 256g 1600 seems not bad

        • If you can wait, why not? Haha
If decided, get HN eGC first, secure the Amex offer. Then just wait for discount.
If you see 15% ~ 20% from other places e.g. Microsoft, JBHifi, just take to HN and ask for price match, and use the discounted eGC to pay.
And yes, you can use multiple eGC to checkout. And yes, you can use eGC in store.

          • @jacktator: where to get HN EGC with discount, sorry im a noob

            • @NVidia Sucks: If you have Amex, they've recently got 2 offers.
Spend $250, get $50 back, Equiv of 20% off, Expired
Spend $350, get $50 back, Equiv of 14% off, Current (But Registration Capped I recall)
Just purchase Gift Cards with it, you'll get the cashback, even though T&Cs stated that you won't.

If you don't have Amex, the easiest way would be purchase through gift card marketplaces. E.g.
              1. Open a Free Macquarie Transaction Account
              2. Get access to their Gift Card Marketplace.
              3. Purchase Harvey eGCs with 5% off.
They also could be available elsewhere for cheaper, I'm no HN expert unfortunately.

PS, This is from my own experience, and not a financial advice. Please consider your own situation.

          • @jacktator: Thoughts on the Amex credit not coming through when purchasing a gift card?

  • The $719 4gb model.

Does the tax invoice come through at $999?

Thus trs would be much higher percentage on purchase price

oh damn it, didnt know it expired tonight,

    missed it by 40 mins

    :(

  • Just don't do it. These things have a habit of not waking up from sleep mode. Microshaft won't want to know and you'll be left with a very flat brick and if there's data on the hard drive you'll most likely break the screen trying to remove it. Happened to me a couple of months ago.

  • Any chance of the same deal coming in the nezt 2 weeks???

I missed the last deal by minutes, and im travelling at end of jan :(
