  • Hi OP, would OFworks pricebeat this? Thanks.

    • +2

unfortunately not, they don't price beat ebay and definitely not ebay with coupons

    • +1

      No it WOnt

    • +2

They'll price beat the Amazon deal though (apart from the G6 Plus which is sold out) as no coupon is required there and the Amazon price includes delivery without membership required.

    • However they do beat amazon au.

      I did this.

    • I was under the impression they do, they'd price match any online store as long as the item is the same. I heard about this more or less about a month ago.

      • +1

They do price beat eBay and other online stores, but not coupons which this deal is using. You can read it here.

What is excluded from the Price Beat Guarantee?
        Cashback and coupon offers

      • Thanks for clarifying that up. Just that I got a mix reaction from above posts.

Got a G6 Plus thanks OP think this will get OzBargained quickly

  • Why does it say 12 month Australia warranty I thought all Australian phones had 24 months?

    • +1

Nokia does 24 months standard but Moto 12 months only.
      Don't know why..

Also believe Samsung is also 24 months.

      • Nokia is from Finland (now HMD Global).
        Samsung is from South Korea.

Moto is from China - Lenovo.

What sort of warranty were you expecting from a Chinese company in the global market?

        • @ozdesi Nokia and HMD are two different companies
it is NOT HMD Global now
HMD license the name to make phones from NOKIA

    • +1

As i understand it, the phones only carry a 24 month warranty if purchased on a 24 month contract. i.e. you can't be sold something that runs out of warranty when still on a contract. here is an exert from ACCC.

Following the ACCC's investigation, Optus introduced a 24 month express repair warranty for mobile phones supplied by Optus on 24 month post paid contracts, and has undertaken for a period of three years to provide this warranty for all brands of mobile phones supplied by Optus, including the Apple iPhone.

ACCC chairman Graeme Samuel said this is a big win for consumers.

"Optus has joined the other major telcos in providing 24 month warranties, and we now have a situation where consumers who purchase a mobile phone on a fixed contract have a warranty for the life of the contract."

  • +1

I'm pretty sure Motorola offers a two year warranty. Whether it's under contract or purchased outright.
I knew someone that dealt with Motorola after nearly two years, and were very helpful with her g4 plus. So definitely 2 years.

  • Does G6 plus or moto x4 have the best specs? They seem very similar though X4 is an older phone and still on 7.0 - appears to have better cameras though. Does anyone that owns an X4 or a G6 plus know if you can do dual 4g sims and a micro sd at the same time?

    • +2

I have a G6 Plus. It has active dual 4G sims (used second slot in Europe recently with no problems - just switched first sim that had my Aus network off). It also has separate microSD slot that I put a 256GB card in. Camera on the G6 Plus was perfectly good for my needs on the trip, but you might be fussier of course. Seemed to be better than the iPhone 7's and SE's that my travelling companions had. It also has NFC if that is important to you, but I haven't tried it myself yet.

The most obvious difference is 5.9" screen on G6 Plus vs 5.2" on X4.

Note that X4 has Android 8.0 in Australia, same as G6 Plus but yes the X4 is older. However the X4 camera looks better on paper (Dual 12mp/8mp f2.0 & f2.2 vs dual 12mp/5mp f/1.8 on the rear and 16mp front camera vs 8mp front camera).

For X4 I believe it's only 2 slots (dual sim OR single sim + sd card), opposed to g6 plus 3 slots (dual sim & sd card).

Some other small differences that I noticed: G6 Plus is only splashproof, not waterproof like the X4. G6 Plus battery is slightly bigger 3200mAh vs 3000mAh on X4 due to screen size difference. On paper G6 plus has slightly louder speaker according to GSMarena but haven't looked into that.

      • thanks hamza re the sim slots. The waterproofing on the x4 would be nice and the better camera on paper. G6 plus being newer might be the goods though - should be more likely to get an update to 10.0 or beyond - my g5 plus is still only on 7.0.

        • It's unfortunate the X4 isn't Android One here like it is in the US, would make it much more appealing. Yeah there's no chance the X4 would get update to 10.0 since it came with 7.0 but you would think the G6 plus would at some stage.

        • My G5 Plus got the 8.1 update in November. Have you flashed a custom ROM by any chance?

          • @aldroid: nope not even rooted.

            • +1

@Wilburre: Hmm, interesting. What carrier are you with?

            • @Wilburre: "Wilburre" Your Motorola G5 Plus should be ready to upgrade to Android 8.1 since November. Have you tried updating OTA?

              • @ozhunter68: I've gone into the update area in settings and it's only given me security patches. I switch between kogan and vodaphone frequently - it's unlocked.

                • @Wilburre: Maybe do a factory re-set as that might trigger the OTA update.

Where did you purchase phone from, or more specifically what model number is your G5+?

I have two, one XT1685 32GB/4GB bought from Hong Kong, and a 16GB/3GB model bought locally from The Good Guys and they both updated to Oreo last month.

                  • @ozhunter68: Yeah it's local stock from good guys.

                    • @Wilburre: Wow, something not right there. Maybe try connecting to a wifi network somewhere and check for update then.

I have had trouble updating my Nokia 6.1 and Xiaomi Mi A2 ( both Android One ) using wifi, and will only update using data from inserted sim ( know issue in many Android Forums ). As soon as I put sim in with data on, it works.

Have you Googled your problem or got in touch with Motorola Support/Forums yet?

  • No 6% shopback cashback :(

  • Do these guys have VoLTE on Telstra?

  • I was about to jump on the Nokia 6.1 deal for $317 from Officeworks (was going to buy at Harvey Norman with price match and using the Amex deal that I got which is $50 off $350 spend). Would the Moto G6 Plus be a better performer? Looking for it for someone who is not tech savvy at all (pretty much need to help them do everything when it comes to set up of the phone and downloading apps etc) and hates change so I'd want a phone for them that will last at least 3 years without dying or lagging too much. Main use is for phone calls, SMS, whatsapp, web surfing and minimal games like sudoku, solitaire (nothing intensive) etc. Their current phone is a Samsung Galaxy S5 and only changing because the processor died and not worth fixing.

    • I saw that someone from W.A. said they got the Nokia 6.1 for $317, are you sure this price is Nation Wide?

I have a 6.1 as well as a G5+ and going by that and looking at specs for the G6+, there are minor pros and cons for both, so will need to get down to personal specific priorities, some you would not even know about until you use/compare phone(s).

These are two of the best mid range bang for your buck/ease of use smartphones going around that tick most boxes for AU users, so really would come down to personal preference.

      • +1

I can order online from Officeworks for $317 here (i'm based in Sydney) - https://www.officeworks.com.au/shop/officeworks/p/nokia-6-1-…. I got Harvey Norman to agree to price match but they only had 1 left in stock and was being reserved for online purchase already.

        • +1

If you can get a local Nokia 6.1 for $317 or less ( if your lucky to get a HN price match with stock and $50 off $350 Amex deal without spending $$$ and hours time driving around lol ) I would go for that as it's a really solid phone with 24 mth warranty and 2/3 yrs updates/security support.

If you get the G6+ for below $350 delivered that would also make a great phone for both of you ( user and tech support haha ).

  • i cant find the g6 plus. must be sold out. damn

    • Yep, already sold out yesterday late afternoon.

  • which one of these is beter nokia 7 plus or g6 plus

    • Depends what you want from a phone, pros and cons for both. There is not a perfect phone for everybody, especially in the lower to mid price range.

Work out your priorities for your needs and then see which one ticks most boxes. Both these phones represent top value.

  • Any recommendations on a good G6 Plus case / cover.

    thanks

  • Hey OP, any chance of getting more of the g6 plus at that price?
