I gotta say, that's all well and good. BUT HAVE YOU SEEN THE BEST DEAL OF THE PREVIOUS CENTURY?!?!??!?! https://store.sony.com.au/videomedia/3DVM60R3.html Between this and the PS classic Sony's website is some weird time portal.

they tried the $150 thing, that old chestnut

  • +3

Jesus, talk about buyers remorse. $63 off the PS classic 2 weeks after it's released

  • -1

Keep going. I want to see a $5x

  • how exactly would you get the games for this, does it work in 4k?

    • +5

Not sure if you're serious, but here goes:

the PS Classic is a tiny, retro looking emulator with a bunch of classic PS One games built in to it.

The machine is smaller. The controllers are full sized.

It works with a HDMI cable. Not sure of what it outputs, but I'd be surprised if it was 1080p, it's probably upscaled to 720 or something.

You don't get more games for it, but I imagine someone will hack it to be able to receive more games, like on the SNES mini.

      • it's hackable but right now you can only load 1 custom game at a time from a usb input, it also has a chance of bricking the console.

        • +2

Lookup Bleem Sync on Youtube … you can put any games you want on it now to run off a USB (Think of Dual Booting) Much safer than the old method … you can also put Retro Arch on it as well now, so you're not limited to just PS1 games.

          • @putangiano: Thanks I watched the youtube pretty straight forward. Any good website to download PS1 games?

    • +4

limited games imo, max is 720p, emulator is open sourced, controller has no analog sticks (but has games for it??), no simulated scanlines.

shitty designed product with minimal effort pushed out as a cash grab.

      • Yeap played on one of these yesterday as a relative was gifted one… Let's say I'm glad I didn't get one

        • Gah, it's worse than I feared

      • +1

I'll just clarify something for the non-techy

        emulator is open sourced

This means Sony grabbed an open-source emulator off github instead of using one of their own. ie, you can run the exact same emulator on a raspberry pi or Nintendo switch.

As opposed to Sony releasing the source code for their own proprietary emulator used in the psp and ps3, which would be absolutely awesome!

That being said, if Nintendo release a classic gamecube running dolphin, I'll still buy it, because I doubt they can do a better job than dolphin ;)

    Thank you!!!

These things are tanking like beanie babies. 40% off within a fortnight. It'll be half off with a code before long.

It is a pile of shit thats why. The emulation is terrible and they used a version of most ganes that doesnt work well with new tv's. The fact there are slowdowns, sound glitched etc in most games is also terrible.

How they released it like this when the hardware they used is more than capable of doing full speed emulation is beyond me.

  • +3

they should re-release the classic consoles, exactly as they were, size, packaging etc

that would be cool for the retro collectors out there. i wouldnt mind a "brand new" full sized ps1

and a sony trinitron flat screen crt to go with it :p

    • Yeah I feel a bit conned that this doesn't play cds

      • +1

if it did, first thing i would pop in would be one of those demo disks

    • +1

They wouldn't do that because people like the gimmick Wouldn't be good for business.

  • +1

    Bastards.

Does anyone know if any physical store will price match Sony online prices?

    • Most places have it for $89

To be honest I'd just wait. Sales on this thing are so bad, it won't be long before its $59 imo.

Sony though they could make a quick buck by releasing a half assed version, but forgot to put in any love like Nintendo did.

sry, am after the dual shock controller though :)
