Telstra 2018 iPad Plan $29/Month for 24 Months with 10GB Data Per Month

2790

Seems a good deal to me. $29 per month for 24 months. 32g 6th gen iPad with 10gig of data per month then throttled to 1.5mbps. So that's $696 for the cellular iPad (currently $667 at officeworks) and 240g of data over the 2 years.

Plus I got $150 cashback through my work run cashback site, ymmv but that took my total down to $546.

    • How much is the excess? For a $700 device, you might want to weigh it up at least for theft. For accidental damage, at $99 AppleCare+ is not a bad deal compared to what Telstra charges, but it's only for two years and only two goes at it ($65 Service Fee):

    • $15 a month x 24 = 360 + (from memory you need to pay 100 in excess )
      Total = 460

Can buy a new non cellular iPad for less than that. Do you need a cellular iPad ? Sure they’d have wifi at her school

      • Yeah, that's what I am considering too. That's almost full price of the tablet itself.

The other option is from Office Works. Their insurance is $68 for 12 months outright and $150 in case of a loss or theft claim. Suddenly it looks better.

        • Just wondering, why don't you have have contents insurance? I'd be more worried about the house burning down and taking all my worldly possessions with it than dropping a $700 iPad!

          • @tomcat83: Good thought, however, I am still waiting for my house to be built. Until then, I am living in rental dwelling, and thus no reason to have home insurance.

            • @notJV: Home insurance and contents are two different things. Home insurance won't cover your possessions, just the building (and off topic, if you own your house the contents insurance needs to take into account flooring, curtains etc.)

Even if you are renting it's worth having contents insurance, even if it only covers half of wrath you have (that's what I did when I was struggling financially) as at least you have some coverage to get some stuff back…

      • $15 per month
        $190 per claim
        can claim twice a year
        $99 screen replacement

Officeworks is only for 12 months

Thanks OP - got one! 128GB @ $34/mth with Peace of Mind data. Unfortunately no more data pooling.

For anyone looking to use this with an Apple Pencil - you need to buy a first gen Pencil. Works great though, feels natural and a big improvement over my last attempt at digital notetaking with an iPad 3 and passive stylus. This + OneNote/Notability will mean you will likely never need a notepad for work again.

    • Tried this with online chat. Got refused by two reps.

  • I just negotiated the 32GB gold model with 20GB of data for $29 per month.

This was arranged on 24/7 chat and apparently system would not allow hi, to apply the Piece of Mind feature.

I also tried to get the 128GB model without extra data, but couldn’t get him to agree.

  • Is this worth upgrading an iPad Air 2 on this deal or should I wait until the new base model iPads are out to see how they are?

I am waiting to see new iPads coming out in March.

      • Hope they have this offer back on for the new iPads when they are released. Would be great!

@Danstar: Honesty hurts? When has any telco made a good deal for the latest tech ?
Do you see the iPad pros
            Having good deals like this?

Negotiated for a 32GB iPad with 15 GB data plus peace of mind for $24/month. Happy days!

    Edit: Thanks OP :)

    • That’s awesome! Are you an existing customer?

      • Are you an existing customer?

        No, new customer.

    • hey, do you mind copying your chat transcript to get this deal or sending me screenshot of your current plan? I'm trying to negotiate to get the same as yours.

      • Not sure how a screenshot of my plan or transcript help? Try contacting the online chat people and try it few times, may be I just had a nice salesperson.

Update: I negotiated 128gb iPad with 20GB of data for $29 per month. Couldn’t get piece of mind thrown in but I’m unlikely to ever need it.

    • That's a great deal. Was it negotiated in-store or online?

      • +1

Negotiated online and agreed to proceed. My order was then cancelled without notice and they didn’t want to honour over the phone until I complained several times.

        • Did you actually end up getting the ipad? As in physically delivered or..?? Because i feel like they just continuously cancel orders without letting customers know.

I've placed an order twice and neither have been honoured.

@blueyez: Yes it was delivered. It took a great deal of complaining and spoke with the call centre manager who was reluctant until I suggested the TIO will be involved.

  • My experience with Telstra so far;

    • Melbourne Central store refused to put through the sale before close on 27/01/2019

    • Spent over an hour via live chat that night to order what i want (128gb rose gold, POM data included), advised there's a 2-3 week delay on the colour

    • patiently wait before contacting Telstra on February 19th, only to be told MY ORDER WAS CANCELLED (cool, when were you going to let me know Telstra??) due to an "information mis-match" (excuse me what?! I typed my own details into the chat and have a transcript of the entire conversation)

    • jump on live chat for over 2 hours to re-order the same thing I'd already ordered. Had to argue with them to get the deal.

It's now the 4th of March, still waiting on a response to my official complaint lodged 26th February.

Thinking to jump ship to optus as it's similarly priced, this feels like it's not worth the drama.

So much for a RELAXING, POST-SURGERY RECOVERY (wanted the tablet to use during my recovery but i'll be going to work soon…)
