5 foot 3 inch display? Not very pocketable is it?

    • They said that about the original Note, it depends on the size of your pockets..

    • +5

      Rivals my 65inch Samsung telly.

  • Is this single sim version?

    • dual sim

  • -6

    Yeah but NFC o.O

    • -1

      Noone F Cares?

      • geeeez first off, EVERYONE F Cares!
and username dose not check out.
more deep breaths and downward dogs stat!

  • Does it have NFC and B28?

  • +4

I love my Nokia 8 tough as nails

    • +1

      Concrete nails?

  • +7

I have a nokia 8 and its amazing, flagship specs for under $500 when I got it, was getting tired of shitty xiaomis.

I can confirm I use google pay on mine all the time so it must have NFC

    • +3

i just bought xiaomi mi a2 yesterday from eglobal, hopefully good enough, although the specs in this looks a lot better.

      • +2

The A1, A2 is a good product line from Xiaomi, they have a more premium feel than the Redmi Note line. You will be happy I would think.

        • I own an A2 and it's pretty good. 6gb variant from global market

    • -3

      Xiaomi>Nokia

      • +2

Unless you want NFC which is missing in their low-mid range phones, since it isn't as popular in India/China.

  • Bought it a while ago. Very happy with the phone. Fast delivery from Tobydeals.

    • How long did it take for you to receive your phone?

      • Within a week.

  • +1

Hey Rep, when I add there doesn't seem to be a free shipping option, any ideas?

  • +2

Reviews say that items are getting lost in free shipping and delivery takes much longer than advertised time. Anyone here have experience with the free shipping option on tobydeals?

    • +2

I would also like to know if anyone has received their phone from the last deal?
      https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/435919

      • I sure did, delivered within 5 working days via standard shipping. No issues so far.

      • I did. Shipping is quite fast

  • +2

Wow, this has to be the cheapest phone with a SD835 right?

  • +9

must resist….don't make me drink the ozb kool aid

    • Im guessing I'm missing a joke from the votes, can someone help lol

  • Is this TRS eligible?

    • +1

TobyDeals don't collect GST as far as I know, so no.

  • Nokia 8.1 for $470 is pretty good as well.

    • +1

      That's a mid range device though, with a SD710 and a notch!

  • +5

my goodness…look at the size of em forehead and chin! So 2016…the upside is it protects the screen itself from shattering.

    • Professor is 2016 too, same as LG v30 plus.

      • +9

        Most professors have large forehead

        • They don't call them "eggheads" for nothing.

    • +9

Am I alone in preferring some part of the front that isn't screen? Makes it easier to hold.

  • +1

How's the camera and build quality? Looking for a sub-$400 phone to last for a few years… just need it to be solid and have a decent camera and be less than 5'5 inches.

I currently have an Xperia XZ in my cart on ebay…

    • +2

I don't own the phone but I believe the camera was initially poor. However following the recent Pie update it has improved.

      Hopefully somebody can confirm.

      • +2

I got the Pie update & well it fixed a lot of issues I had with it but the Camera app was not updated for Pie. It's crashes sometimes on Pie & now there's duplicated icons at top.

What's sad about it, is there's unreleased pie build that fixes & updates camera app but HMD pretty much abandoned Nokia 8 at this moment since its out of year cycle & only releases barebone andriod updates for it.

If camera is important, you're better with newer budget Nokia but if not this is bargain considering this is 128gb model

        • Thanks. So you don't think it will get updates to fix the camera?

That's what stopped me from buying. The Nokia 8 was released 18 months ago already and probably limited updates going forward.

          • @tranter: Yeah, we'll be lucky if the fix comes with 9.1. The camera app is so behind from newer Nokia's andriods & it's long due. The last time it was updated was at June 2018 for adding Pro camera mode which should've been there at start.

    • +5

Comparing my Nokia 8 to my wife's Sony, I can advise you that a Sony comes with HEAPS of Sony apps pre-installed that you can't remove. It would bother me.
My Nokia 8 recently updated to Android 9. Has been great.

      • Thanks man, appreciate it. How about the quality? Does it feel solid? Does it feel like it is likely to break?

        • +2

Build quality is good. Nice aluminium body. I've had mine (TA-1052 version) for a year, I don't use a case and no major signs of wear. Back can be a bit slippery.

The only thing that's happened to mine is the silver logo on the back got pulled out by a Grip Go phone holder on a hot day (at about 10 months old).

Camera is okay, not great. It's not a Pixel, but probably compares fine at this price range. There is a pro mode now if that's something you'd use.

This also has a headphone port.

        • +2

I'm very happy with the build quality but found it hard to pickup, so mine is in a $10 clear silicone cover from eBay which doesn't add bulk or change the styling but makes it MUCH easier to pickup and hold.

          P.S. I also bought a $14 Blitzwolf QC3 charger because adapters suck.

    • If you do get it, check if you can get the pixel camera with the night sight feature. I can get it for my xiaomi phone but I need to do a factory wipe.

    • The battery will probably be your main concern if you want it to last a few years. It's not big to begin with.

    • +1

I'm very happy with the camera, performs pretty well in low light and day time photos are great. Last phone was a Xiaomi 4, camera on that was balls. Previous phone to that was a Lumia 950 and photos seem comparable to that (which is a good thing).

Seems to be very no frills with camera options, which I like.

  • +1

How does this compare to a Moto G6 plus?

    • +1

My thoughts exactly. I'm hanging out for a new deal on a G6 Plus, but there's been nothing for a while. This looks good. Lenovo have just announced the G7 though…

      • +1

I have a Moto G5 Plus and a Nokia 6.1 and both phones run clean software and great for the price. The G6 Plus and Nokia 8 are both a step up and also great phones alike.

I would happily upgrade to both as they again run clean Android ( Pie for N8 & soon for G6+ ), both have front fingerprint scanner, good build and battery life. The biggest difference is size/screen size and better performance/memory for the N8.

The N8 would be more durable I'd say with that alloy unibody and not having glass on back, but the dreaded faulty half screen issue has got me a little worried.

        • +5

For the love of OzBargain, please do not buy the Xperia XZ - three of us in the family have/had it and is/was a pain of a phone. Bloatware, overheating, low speakers, etc. My 2 cents.

  • +3

    KFC supporting?

    • +2

Not sure that it has an oleophobic coating.

    • Do you mean NFC lol?

    • +2

Yes it can fit one drumstick and a wing.

    • +1

Yep, install from the Play Store.

  • how is there warranty support?

    Anyone had prior experience.

Dual sim with sd card support or one sim + micro sd ?

    • Hybrid, so two options at once only.

  • +4

The internet is littered with incredibly poor reviews for this outfit. Would suggest avoiding them.

    • +4

what issues did your internet report?

    • +4

2.9 stars for OzBargain. Shame on us for using this outfit

But seriously most websites have bad reviews anyway as that's what people do. I don't write reviews everytime I have a good experience at Coles for example, but I'd be more inclined to review if I had a bad experience.

  • Tax Invoice?

    • Hong Kong store and doesn't look like they're charging GST, so no tax invoice.

  • How's this compared to the Nokia 7 plus & LG v30 plus?

    • +2

nokia 7 plus has a snapdgraon 660 but a 3800mah battery while the nokia 8 and lg v30 has 3090mah and 3300mah with snapdragon 835

      here is the comparison

  • I'm torn between this and Pocophone F1… any thoughts?

    • poco doesnt have b28 and nfc but a bigger battery (3090 vs 4000) and snapdragon 845 vs 835.

    • +2

      Go the Pocophone for sure

      • No NFC too big of a feature gap for me .. means no android pay and myki (trial only at the moment)

        • Yep no NFC and an iNotch - deal broken.

    • Ended up buying Nokia 8. Very fast delivery, ordered on the 12th, got it this morning.
My only feedback for now is the plug adapter they give is not compatible to the charger… :/

Hello Toby Deals, I hope you could read this…

  • I really look the look of this phone, Nokia did a great job.

  • I am very tempted to get this one. Anyone agree?

    • +2

Go for it. I've had my Nokia 5 for 1 year+ and can't complain. A workmate (professor) got a Nokia 8 some months ago and said it's the best phone he's ever had. HMD have done a fantastic job.

    • I pulled the trigger on this one.

  • I am worried about warranty issues.
Has anyone dealt with this company on warranty issues?

  • Gr8 device.. amazing price really

  • bought for gf.
how long is this deal going? cos if i like it ill probably buy one also.

    • +1

It goes untill 12:59pm tomorrow, you can see it in the description of the deal above.

  • +1

    Ordered today 12/2/2019 7:40am , dispatched today 12/2/2019 21:20 - order to dispatch in under 14 hours

Impressed is an understatement if only aussie retailers where this quick id order more from them.

    • Delivered today 15/2/2019 so that's 3 days from order to delivery.

      • I didn't order until 5pm on 12/02, landed in Sydney this arvo. Hopefully will get it Monday.

  • Is this the sirocco variant?

    • +2

No. Because the sirocco has no sdcard slot. This one does.

Why the sirocco took the sdcard slot and headphone jack. I dont know.

Would have neen a great phone since it has an oled screen.

  • How's warranty work? Ship back?

  • Let's say this didn't have NFC & B28, how would it compare to Redmi Note 5 (Snapdragon 636)? Any opinions? This is higher end, yes?

    • I have a Redmi 5 Plus and am looking at this BECAUSE the redmi doesn't have NFC. It's a huge feature to b missing in these days of Google Pay :(

  • Bought a Nokia 8.1 through this deal. Have an upvote :)

    • Just wondering why you went for the 8.1 over this posted Nokia 8?

      • Screen size. current phone is 5.3" and is too small for what I need. Nokia 8 is in the same boat.

        • That's a really good reason. I can see why people like a large screen phone.

  • Price went up from $337 to $345. Still tempting but scared of warranty process..

    • Agreed and no sign of the store rep. May just wait for a p20lite deal locally for my Dad.

  • Thanks to the poster of this deal. I decided to get one and Im wondering if there is anyone that can recomend me a good case and a good screen protector? Would really appreciate any advice :)
