London from Melbourne $1145, Sydney $1175, Brisbane $1165, Perth $1145 Return (Min. 2 Pax) @ Emirate Airlines via Helloworld

160

Another very similar Emirates deal. No student/youth requirement for this one. Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne is from $1145 return. Sydney & Brisbane extra $20 to $30 only.

Probably not exclusive to Helloworld. Probbaly slightly cheaper with some online agents, if you trust them.

Airlines have to be very careful with these crazy deals, that many don't start to believe these are normal levels. School holidays are probably over twice the price.

Think airline would be much better off saying $1499 & include $350 worth of ANY accommodation, car hire etc. through travel agent.

Obviously Emirates having trouble filling certain flights. They might be better off cancelling certain flights. From big cities they fly 2 to 3 times a day to Dubai. They could easily cancel 1 if they still have 2 others per day.

    Mate, are you real?
The deal is fine but that last paragraph in the description!

      • +4

You are just doing a transit stop there.
        The airlines are totally fine.
Especially your last sentence is racist and totally incredible.
You make it sound like the airlines are indeed linked to terrorism but simply say "nah, they are not".

It is like someone saying that James Smart has been linked to or is though of as a serial killer or pedophile but he downplays that. What would that imply? Would you think this is okay to say about you to your boss?

What you are posting publicly about those airlines borders on defamation in the legal sense!

Source: I am qualified and trained in this field!

          • +1

@JamesSmart: That's bullpoo. I have NEVER been delayed in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, not a single time.
Plus my mum (blonde) and my sister (very pretty, long dark hair) have gone on holiday there together on several occasions for two weeks at a time and they had nothing but respect and kindness from the natives there.
Mate, you are absolutely wrong and racist.
I would be more worried about the QLD hillbillies!
Oh, and by the way - have you recently checked the treatment of women (one indicator is violence against women) in Western countries, including Australia?

              • @JamesSmart: Have you every heard of flying faster?
Passengers can also be rebooked on other airlines.

Mate, stop now. You are digging the hole deeper and deeper and make yourself a laughing stock.

What you wrote was totally wrong, homophobic, racist etc. There is no way around, no matter how much you try to argue your way out.
Say sorry, learn from it and become a better person.

You know there are communities in Western countries that are just the same, in Australia, in Germany, in the UK, in the US - so these are all terrorist countries too and we should not fly with their airlines???

Get yourself some life experience and education or go back to the hills and stay there place. I am embarassed to live in the same State as you as your behaviour which you display publicly might also taint the reputation of the good people in QLD.

              • @JamesSmart: "Obviously, Emirates don't want to take that risk, annoy customers & wear costs of hotels, meals etc. but at times, if it means cancelling whole flight to Sydney or disrupting a few passengers from Birmingham only, the latter will occur. "

Since you already looked up EK414, please tell us how many times EK414 has been cancelled the past year.

If your accusation is correct, that number will be significant.

As for "the passengers from Birmingham" if they meet their connection as scheduled, they will also make the plane. If they are already late, then there is no expectation or likelihood for any airline to hang around for a long time for a late connecting flight.

If there were a large number of passengers, they may, but if not that next flight will continue on as it will for every airline, and the passengers will be rebooked.

          • @JamesSmart: Don’t get stuck in Dubai ? I visit UAE 4-6 times a year for holiday and transit and I love the place, hired cars and driving all around it, it’s one of the safest countries in the world and I had nothing but respect every time. Also Emirates is one of the best airlines in the world because they have money to support the glamour and style that they fly in.

I think the deragotory nature of this post should be removed…

      • I am sorry to say but you are totally filling a stereotype here!

  • Strewth. A business and (im-)moral lesson in a single post on OzB. And to think we only come here for the deals…

However ~$1,150 is around the AUS-LHR return price for quite a few airlines, with some of the China airlines down around $800 return. Emirates is a big ugly corporation that will still be making $$ out of these fares.

      • +2

Amazing how you start with "I don't know", then quote some numbers, make a guess (you could choose to look at the exact taxes - it's in the fare breakdown).

Having "been in travel for many years, a while back" - you instead just guess the taxes and profit margins now. Of course the cheaper ones "might be worse connections", but you don't bother to check.

Back of the envelope expert. Good job. You should be made Emirates CEO with these powers of estimation.

Emirates is a much nicer airline than most of the Chinese ones though. The food is better, the in flight entertainment is probably one of the best and most importantly, they have great connection times on a lot of destinations. So there is some logic in paying a small premium for a premium carrier, even if it is only for an economy seat, 24 hours flying can be taxing on anyone.

      • +2

Paying an extra $300 for 50% less transit time and better food+entertainment is an absolute no brainer.

        • indeed. unless you're a backpacker, then it's all about the money!

From Melb, Royal Brunei, is one of the cheapest & one of the quickest.
But saving $50-100 for a 12hrs layover in Shanghi, no thanks.

    • I’ve seen Syd to Gatwick many times on Emirates website for $1190

  • I fly Emirates Business Class London to Brisbane and at today's price, for the same period, the ticket price is around $600 CHEAPER than the price shown on the helloworld travel website. That's for a single traveler flying when I want to fly, and not a 'special' for two traveling together, a point you forgot to mention, or cashing in my air miles which would reduce the price by a further $1700+.

Our VAT, that's our equivalent to your GST which I believe you meant when you referred to the UK Government Taxes, is 20% compared to your 10% but yet one is able to purchase most goods in the UK vastly cheaper than they can be purchased in Australia - a known fact I think you'll find.

When I've compared air fares between the two nations I've found that those from Australia are, on average, 40% more expensive than those from the UK (same airline, same dates) and so I shall leave you to reach your own conclusions as to why that should be.

Obviously, the prices you have highlighted are a 'special deal' and one that probably won't have much uptake given the restrictions applied.

      • I have to be careful here as your moderator(s) get a little 'touchy' when I correct people, but here goes.

Amongst your guessing games above you referred to UK Taxes, what relevance that made to anything I failed to see, and I was just making a general comparison between the two nations. Whether you pay GST on airfares, or not, doesn't detract from the fact that the average Australian is ripped-off by just about everyone. The fact that you may not pay GST on certain types of travel makes that even worse, and I was pointing out that whilst you might feel that the prices you posted might be considered by some to be a bargain, those of us that live in other parts of the world know differently.

        • I have to be careful here as your moderator(s) get a little 'touchy' when I correct people, but here goes.

Sorry, that's just false. Just don't attack people (e.g. call them an idiot, etc.). Commenting Guidelines. Discussion is encouraged, being attacked by others is not.

          • @neil: Yes, I called someone stupid, or was it an idiot, I can't recall now - obviously a crime with you.

But allowing the OP to voice racist undertones is acceptable to you, I take it?

        • +1

it's been 30-50% more expensive to fly From Aus then To Aus for decades. E.g. When I first when over there in the mid 90's, it was $1600-2000 rtn from Briz/Syd, GBP400-500 rtn from Lon (back when the $1 = GBP0.33-0.40).

        • "Amongst your guessing games above you referred to UK Taxes, what relevance that made to anything I failed to see"

I believe the point was that, in a general discussion, the UK is just one of many destinations in the Europe area for flights from here, where distance and travel time are comparable. However, its taxes are unique in that region and especially high, so worth calling out. In this case, they also take a significant proportion of the flight cost.

          • @odysseus: I'm sorry but it is you that is missing the point.
If one is comparing prices it is based on the net purchase price (one that includes ALL taxes) the commodity costs, not by how much local tax is applied to the products base price (that's my understanding of the American system when I visited the country a few years back).

In this particular instance where we're discussing air fares, an airline's costs are exactly the same whether they are flying into or out of Australia (landing fees, fuel, maintenance, wages etc) so, apart from profiteering, can anyone explain to me why a ticket bought in Australia is so much more expensive than a ticket bought outside of Australia?

  • Back on topic of emirates flights for a moment…

Beware Emirates has just dropped their baggage allowance on all flights in economy booked after 4/1/19.

All Economy flights have dropped 5kg off checked baggage.

    https://www.emirates.com/au/english/before-you-fly/baggage/c…

Emirates was my goto airline for flights to Europe, but for a full service carrier to now only allow 15KG in discounted economy on such long distance routes, on top of their pretty strict 7kg hand luggage limit, is just taking the p…
