890

UPDATE: Optus chat have advised me that this plan is only available for eligible customers who want to get an additional service. $10 port in discount not applicable, but HN discount can be had.

Not often do I endorse or post any Apple deals, but this seems to be a great price for the inclusions.

No International calls included in this plan.

Similar to this post, but handset fees are lower.

24 month contract.

  • Iphone XR 64GB - $69 + $10 = $79 | After HN discount = $72.1/Month

  • Iphone XR 128GB - $69 + $15 = $84 | After HN discount = $77.1/Month

  • Iphone XR 256GB - $69 + $25 = $94 | After HN discount = $87.1/Month

Harvey Norman 10% discount is only applicable for new services and applies only to the plan fees making it $62.10 plus the handset fees.

10% student discount MAY be added by contacting Optus provided you have a .edu email address - There are couple of posts where users have mentioned that Optus has removed this offer.

Offer expires March 31, 2019.

NOTE: Page defaults to Lease Option & Iphone XS. You would need to change models and choose the "Own" option for the correct prices to reflect.

  • can you upgrade from an optus sim only plan? Thanks

    • +1

port out to a voda sim then sign up few days later

    • No new services only
But you can cancel your existing sim only plan, port out or change to prepaid and sign up for this deal.
Shame Optus aren’t willing to budge on this for existing customers.

    • Actually, it looks like you must be an existing customer, and buy this a new additional service on the same account — on top of the first service.

Available to Optus Postpaid mobile customers who add a new service to their account.

And from the ‘Eligibility’ clause in the CIS:

this plan is only available to existing Postpaid Mobile customers signing up a new service with selected handsets.

In other words, after buying this, you will end up with at least 2 services on your account.

      • I was offered the xr option posted by their disconnections service. Only way to do it was to cancel my existing byo sim only plan, transfer to prepaid and then sign back up again.

no international calls is a bit disappointed

    • +1

Curious why people don't use WhatsApp, etc, for this instead

      • +8

Family back home either have 4gb a month and/or dont even have internet 😂 nana doesnt have a cell lol

        • +6

Yeah indeed, the older folks are not always that engaged with the internet. My parents overseas (both approaching their seventies) have a 500 Mbit/sec symmetric fibre-to-the-home connection, but it takes them 4 days to reply to a Whatsapp. They always answer the landline though. Talk about overkill.

        • 4GB per month is more than enough to include some phone calls each much.

      • Quality is a but unreliable sometimes and my grandma doesn't have WhatsApp, so it's good to have at least some international minutes.

    • can have international calls unlimited from Telstra..

  • that price is to lease the phone, no thanks.

    • +3

Default price on the page is for iPhone XS.
      Change to XR.

      • yeah apologies, couldn't see the tabs on my mobile.

    • +2

It isn’t lease? Definitely own the phone with the $10 a month repayment. Lease is + $0. Also includes unmetered Netflix again which I believe costs extra on other plans.

100GB data too. Mighty tempting to upgrade from my iPhone 8

      • -8

The link given literally has "lease now" under this pricing structure. Owning the phone (the tab to the left) indicates its from $94 per month to own the phone

        • +2

$94 because your looking at the 256gb.. dont be to fast to neg deals

          • -6

@RogueWolf: Nah I was reading through fine print, but didn't realise the website defaults to XS not XR

      • -3

    • -4

      Owining prices are $94 / $109 / $124 (64G128G/256G)
Obviously, this is Not a good deal at all.

      • +4

You’re on the XS. For some reason it defaults to that. Make sure to move across to the XR

  • +1

Quick question, if it's a lease, what happens if you keep it for 24 months? Do you return it or you get to keep it?

    • +2

For the leasing plans, you have to return the device. For owning plans you can keep the device

    • +2

If it's a lease then you don't get to keep it. If you did it wouldn't be a lease.

    • +2

      Lease contract
You lease a mobile handset from us for at least 24 and no more
than 26 months to use with your My Plan Flex plan…..

If you fail to return the handset within
14 days of being required to do so, you must pay a non-return
fee based on the fair market value of the handset (to be
      advised at the time).

  • +2

Apologies! You will notice the XS lease price is also the same. Ensure you change the spec to XR under the Own tab. It is very confusing with the new iPhone naming schematic. Sorry again

  • Will the student discount work with a @det.nsw.edu.au account?

    • +1

There's actually no 10% student discount any more. They've withdrawn it.

  • Would you be able to combine the HN discount with the student discount? Doubt you could though. The deal would be too good otherwise.

  • +1

    IPhone XR = iPhone junior

    • Except the screen is bigger.

      • +1

No, the difference is oled vs lcd, and also apple made Xr more ugly for some reason with thicker bezels on the edge than on xs

        • +2

It's because you can't bend LCD. I personally find the symmetry of the borders (excluding notch) to be fine. Red XR, I'm my view, is the best looking.

You still get the insanely good CPU and excellent battery due to the low res screen.

There were talks that the single shooter performs better than the dual sensor of the XS and XS Max

          • -3

@giventofly: Since when is iPhone screens bent only samsung’s Is. also don’t know how, but Samsung manage to bend their lcd tv displays.

Since when is iPhone screens bent only samsung’s Is.

              Dunno what you mean here.

also don’t know how, but Samsung manage to bend their lcd tv displays.

Those are curved, not bent. Dunno the engineering behind it, but those TVs aren't bent to the degree the iPhone (Samsung supplied) OLED Panel is.

There are actual pixels sitting below the screen that you can't see and then the display drivers are connected the motherboard. This cannot be done with an LCD panel.

              • @giventofly: I mean Samsung have the edge display which is the bent oled, but iPhone X and xs and xr are all just a flat piece of lcd display

                • +1

                  @[Deactivated]: Ah, well - that's just a design choice (which I prefer).

Won't ever buy a curved screen. Screen protectors suck for them.

              • -2

@HaveANiceDay: Nah mate that’s the cornering gorilla. Glass not display.

Nah mate that’s the cornering gorilla. Glass not display.

Incorrect. The brightly coloured area is the OLED. That image perfectly describes it (and is super cool)

                  • @giventofly: Wait what are you talking about, if is xs is oled but if xr is lcd display

                    • +1

                      @[Deactivated]:

Wait what are you talking about

                      Right back at you, lol

The XR has thick bezels because of the LCD panel. I suspect the thick bezels are a design choice to take you to the XS if you don't like them.

                      That's all I can say. I don't really understand what you're asking/saying.

      • Junior = inferior/cheap component.

Maybe the target audience are parents for their kids with cheaper option.

        • +1

Cheaper being $1300 instead of $2000?

Maybe those parents should give their kids an iPhone 8 or something instead? Unless they are happy to shell out $72/month ($1728) for their kid to lose what is essentially a fashion accessory at that age.

  • Can these two 10% stack? I meant if I port in to have 10% and then talk to online rep for another?

    • How do you get the 10% when you port in, cause i’m Doing that next month

      • Harvey Norman 10% discount is only applicable for new services and applies only to the plan fees making it $62.10 plus the handset fees.

        • Can this be combined with the student discount

  • +1

Note 9 on $77.10/month (After 10% HN discount) is a decent deal too.

  • There is an option where you can choose between leasing and owning the phone. If you select to own it, the plan becomes about $15 more expensive (per month)

  • “Optus customers deserve the best”. But they won’t let existing customers update an existing plan to this deal, it has to be an additional service added onto the account. Just like all of the descent Optus deals.

  • +2

This is a variant to the iPhone X deal they have/had. iPhone X with 30Gb for $79 a month 24 months. This time you get the extra 70Gb data but an inferior phone.

If you need the extra data this is a better deal. Otherwise get the iPhone X for higher resell value.

  • Has anyone recently got the student discount to stack? Seems to be rumour at the moment…also, being with an Optus reseller like Vaya is still ok right?

    • I got offered it to me the other day but I hadn't ported one of my existing services out yet

  • -1

Thing is last time they had similar promo with $gift card. U could also cancel after the first month and pay it outright which made it cheaper… I only didn’t buy it as I had to use Hn gift cards and the money had to be through Optus :(

  • -3

Does anyone know if these phones are unlocked?

    • Phones on plans in Australia haven't been locked in years

      • Thankfully. It really was a stupid, archaic process that benefitted nobody. Not even the telcos.

  • -1

how does one get this Harvey Norman 10% discount?

    • Go to Harvey Norman, sign up through them

    • Walk into a HN store and talk to their Sales department about signing a contract with Optus mate.

      • thx :)

  • bugger.. I just signed $84 a Month ago. What a cheap it is.

    • Same plan. Handset fee dropped by $5. but HN 10% makes this deal worthwhile.

  • $2000 for a lease phone and you have to return the phone ??????
    I hate these big companies
Apple has been lost after Steve jobs passed away
If I had to return a phone I would run over it with my ute first

    • +3

You'd be charged a damage fee for returning a phone that's been run over, just fyi xx

  • note-9 is only for existing optus customer adding a new service
    now for new
    confirmed with HN too

had a chat with Optus , they say its for New+Exisiting

will go to a HN shortly and see

    • Only if out of contract. I spoke with Optus.

I am on a contract, eligble for my $99 upgrade but I can't use this deal.

  • previous deal for 256G xs is better, $121 for 200G plus unlimited overseas call and 4G International Roaming.

  • Can anyone confirm of an extra 10% student discount?

  • +1

    HN QV melbourne refused
can only add to an exisiting optus service i.e not for new service

  • Does anyone know if HN can do the re-contract for existing plans using the $99 upgrade fee?

  • Cheers just signed up with 128GB for $77.10 when you take off phone cost it's basically $23/mo for 100gb data, ripper deal.

    • Hey mate.. quick one.. Did you have an existing optus number and add this as an additional service? Optus chat advised me that this is only for additional services.

      • Nah had an exciting account already.

    • Hi Juzzy96, which shop did you get the deal from? Thanks

      • Cannonvale, middle of no where 😁

        • I got a similar situation - ported out my only optus number 1 month ago, so now no existing optus number but have an account. I want a IPXR 128G plan.

          updates:

          24/02
went to Harvey Norman. was told need to provide an optus number. I provided my account number instead. the sale rep was not sure about it so called Optus but waited a long time to get a support rep. I just went away

          24/02
went to Optus shop. my mate works there so asked him straight away. he couldn't find my service in the system so couldn't select this plan for me.

          25/02
Logged on Optus website with my email, navigated to this deal, ordered the plan. it turned out to be a temporary order.

          26/02
No phone call to me, the order was approved and sent out.

  • I’d also like to know if you can do the re-contract deal for $99 for existing contacts with HN for this deal?

    • Harvey Norman can't do re-contracts. Maybe in 6 months.

  • +4

I had an interesting experience with this.

    1) Friday around 1:30pm I opened a chat window to see if I could use this to upgrade my existing plan with their $99 option. Guy on the chat told me no way.

    2) I called later when I had some time to see if I can 'talk' an option. It worked, I was told by the Customer Services Department that I could get this deal and they were adding notes to my system to give me the deal.

    3) Today I turn up in store and get sent away, sorry the notes just say you are eligible for the upgrade but not with that plan. I walked out and called the Customer Services Department, I got on the phone with this lovely women this time. She listened back to the call from the day before, then came back saying I am sorry yesterday you were given the wrong information.

Though before I could question it she said I will issue you a 20% deal on your monthly plan, unfortunately, though there is no 100GB plan. So they put me on a plan $105 a month, with a $10 device cost for the iPhone XS 256GB, bringing the total to $115. Of course, this was above the $94 it would have been.

At this point, they issue a 20% discount, bringing it down to $93 dollars a month. Nice.

Though here is the kicker, they also kept my Uni Student deal (part time study) on there, making it a 30% discount. In the end I am on the following plan.

    iPhone XS 256GB
    200GB Data
    Unlimited Talk and Text
    Unlimited International Talk and Text
    2GB International Data
Stan, Netflix, ABC etc data free

For a grand total of $80.50 a month.

    I feel I won today!

    • +3

      Wow.. a really good result!!

  • Can someone please explain to me how this HN discount works? Thanks!

  • So, you can't get this if you are not currently an optus postpaid customer?

    • correct if you wanted to keep your phone number. The alternative is to port out and then do a port-in back into Optus.

  • I spoke to a HN the other week and they said we could sign up a second service - I am off contract with virgin mobile, and that I could sign up to someone else's account as a second service and keep my number and get the 10% off.

I went to that HN today and they refused to do so (different worker) as I had forgot the name of the worker that I spoke to on the phone originally. I now know it as I found the paper I wrote it down on. He said I can't keep my number - I have to get a new number to do so - I told him I am not an existing optus customer but with virgin so it is 'new' and the other worker told me it was ok but he refused to budge.

He also said the 10% off is only valid for virgin mobile customers who change over to a normal plan, not for anyone who signs up at HN!

Now I don't know what to do in order to keep my number and get the 10% off. Any suggestions please?

    Thanks.
