    Is there a whipper snipper

    • Yes but it's part of a "5 in 1" for $200.

  • +13

Note: it's an electric starter on a petrol mower

    • Reported Title - now modified to "20V Battery Start Petrol Mower "

  • +7

    mower is petrol not electric

only use 20V battery for startup

  • +1

    Bunnies Equiv? on the mower?

    • -1

Knowing Bunnings it will be a crappier equivalent

    • +1

      There isn't a Bunnings equivalent.

    • +1

The bunnings equivelant is a bag of cow manure. I found the previous version pretty terrible. Stick to a decent brand you can get from bunnings.

Althought others seem to think it was ok so ymmv….

      • nawww someone precious didnt like me calling their Aldi mower a bag of poo. i did say others find it ok, a neg from my real world usage opinion on the product, good work….

        • Upvoted - Thanks for the review!

          • +2

@zappa: lol thanks. thought people would have good laugh comparing it to a bag of manure but hey there are some touchy people in the world!

  • +4

Anyone got this mower before - how good is it?

    • +1

I want to know too, please share yourr reviews. Thanks.

    • I got the one in early 2017, I mow the yards every 3 weeks without a problem.
I'm no lawnmower expert so I don't know how this compares to the more expensive ones out there, but all I can say is that it works well and is easy to use.

Mine only came with a 3 year warranty, this deal has 5 years.

    • +3

I also got the previous version. Used only 2 mowers in my life. So, no much experience.

Electric start is a lifesaver. No more back breaking pulling codes.
Self propelled works well and didn't have any issue up to now.

This is BIG. Bigger than anything i have seen in Bunnings. Not gonna fit in to a smaller yards or for tight corners.
Turning is difficult due to the size. Highly recommend to see it before buying if possible.

      • +2

        Bigger than anything at Bunnings?

According to the catalog it’s an 18” deck that’s pretty standard for a mower. The Honda I bought from Bunnings last week has a 21” deck.

        • Sorry mate, my bad. I got 21" and not a mower person. :)

    • It's best investment I did in mower, working superb for last 1 year. Electric start is life saver!

    • I got it last year and it was terrible.

For starters the thing was so heavy, definitely not what you want if you want to zip around your yard and get under or around things easy. Mine the starter broke after first push so everytime you let go of the 'Go' bar i had to pull start it.

Then there is that stupid slef propelled 'go' bar that you hold while you use it, it means the wheels are always spinning while you hold it so its a pain to manouver how you want e.g backwards. When you let go of the bar the engine stops. Again if you have to do some manouvering that usually means letting go of the bar (surprising how much you actually do until you have a mower that stops when you do). Having to hold that bar just isnt natural when mowing.

Mine the catcher also didnt latch properly and it shot crap at my face every second. Was the biggest buyers remorse i had in a long time but lucky with those two problems it had i took it back the next day! Good ridance and spent my money on a decent mower from bunnings, nice and nimble, high quality with no fancy crap it doesnt need :)

      • The one advertised isn't self propelled though. But at least with the Aldi warranty you simply take it back for a refund if it dies within the 5 years?

        • I noticed it didnt advertise it as that but it has the exact same bar that you pull up and hold (second bar under the main bar in the picture) that make it self propelled. Maybe its a bar that just keeps the engine on on this model which again would be annoying. I suppose if its just that you could use some sort of tape/cable to keep it on all the time instead of it stopping everytime you let go. Definitely not for someone that gets sore hands easy i.e arthritis

Yup can always take it back but in my case the weight of it made returning it just as much of a pain in the @ss as the experience it gave me. Hopefully this version is new and improved.

          • @worthy1: You're probably right - a google search shows gardenline mowers to be self propelled, I guess the weight is the giveaway.

Vacuum sealer bags aren't really a great price - I get them from Amazon now, 10x rolls for ~$45 - https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B0776V5X7N/ref=ppx_yo_d…

    • How's the quality on them?
Someone in the past vacuum sealer deals said aldi ones were great for their price.

      • Exactly the same, I've found no difference at all between the Aldi ones that I used previously, and these.
Just comes in a box that less fancy.

        • Thanks for your input!

    • Do you get a lot of wastage with the bags over the rolls?

      • Ah, I meant the rolls actually. I've tried the bags, but you're spot on, lots of wastage. Bags are far more flexible sizing wise.

  • +1

Backpack blower 51cc for $169 looks OK. Unfortunately it's still two-stroke.

    • Don't know why you were downvoted. What's better about the Aldi one vs the Kmart?

      • I've had the kmart one for a year and it works but barely . I've tried a few different sealing bags and you have to seal it numerous times to get a secure seal . I'd rather pay more and get a more reliable machine .

        • +1

          Aldi one works well

        • +1

I bought a second-hand Aldis one and I have to frequently double seal or I get leaks.

      • Looks like the Kmart one only comes with 5 bags. Aldi one comes with a whole roll.

First time I have seen a bull/roo bar on a mower. Obviously made for Australia.

  • Will this lawn mower be sold Nation-Wide, I am near Castle Hills/ Baulkham Hills area in NSW.

Does anyone know, if this is any good from past experience, also is it self propelled?

    • Hahaha good pick up

    • Most self propelled Honda's have it

    • All good

    • I don't think they are self propelled since this must be a selling point in the brochure title, if any

    • where else you could put led light bar and radio antenna?

  • +1

Thanks for posting the new catalogue OP! :)

    • +1

      Ditto!

  • Hmmmm, 199 5in1 which includes an edger.

    • Also was really really hoping for the lawn scarifier again.

      • when did they have the scarifier last?

  • Wow the mower is 40kg and not even self propelled, that is seriously heavy for a non-self propelled mower

    • 196cc 4-stroke.

It would probably be best suited to a few hundred square metres of open lawn, not your average fiddly suburban back yard.

  • The lawnmower has a bumper bar for mowing the lawn drunk..

  • After getting the electric battery mower from Aldi I can't say I'd ever look back at a petrol one. I was surprised at how good it is - No messing with fuel/oil, weighs nothing and seems to cut better, probably from the higher torque.

    • How long does the battery last on those things?

      • My yards about 400 m2 on a slope. Takes about 20 minutes to do and finish with about 20% battery left so maybe 30 minutes worth of power?

You can always just get more batteries.

    • That's surprising to me. I bought a battery wippersnipper from them and its garbage. Can't reload it, has no power to cut anything, and it's so damn heavy to use. I won't even resell it because I couldn't do that to someone.
I just gave up on it last weekend and bought a cheap petrol one from bunnings that was ex-display (missing about $20 of parts).

      • Weird. I'd expect the electric motor to weigh a lot less than a petrol.

When you say can't reload do you mean the battery cant be swapped? if so, wtf!

Aldi usually take back and refund anything without question.

        • No reloading the actual line is so hard, it just unspools inside the head and snaps off all the time. If you use just a small length then it holds better but getting that bit tied in is so frustrating and it takes ages. On a hot day, I find that more exhausting than the actual day of gardening..

  • Multi Garden Tool is really good value. Just spent over $500 for Rover one with 4 attachments though. Wish I had waited for this one.

  • +1

    I have the original prototype/final product; 190cc / 196cc back from 2004.

    Released as the 2016/17 model.

Still roaring even with using it as bait for theives/criminals tampering with it. Just had the lower handle replaced from aldi for $23 including freight (Turkish boat person cut and re welded the handle without permission showing his “skills”).

Made $2000 from cutting grass with it on odd/recurring jobs over the last 5 months and that’s not full time and every 2-4 weeks a few jobs.

It’s aldi, you beat the middle men from mower shops and Bunnings, made in China products were possible and the rest is altered/off the shelf products (my mower is a Briggs and Stratton 190cc reconfigured motorbike engine for mowers).

Fewer workers, freight, storage warehouses, dodgy sales + manufacturing + import teams = aldi prices. You only lose at their trading hours, interval sales and having to wait a week for a part from 2.5 years ago. Insignificant items under warranty is a replacement if available or refund.

Those are bloody good odds. Worked with all the giant small engine manufacturers, someone along the processing line is an idiot out to get your dollars.

    • Want a cheaper price for the products? expect aldi to go bust, sell you the cheapest Chinese manufactured items or no warranty for your purchases.

    • So it's a Briggs and Stratton engine? You wouldn't think they would keep that a secret. Why are Aldi so abysmal at providing detail and specs on everything they sell?

      • Re-read what he said - he said his mower, which is from 2004 is a B&S engined model - this one isn't - personally I'd expect the engine on it is by Loncin (who make a 196cc engine), who supply engines to a lot of brands - and they're well regarded engines.

  • Food sealer recommended?

  • +1

I've had some of the extended shears for a few years ago, they work well for a cheap, geared unit. Might get a new set as a back up!

  • Seems the bulk trimat powder is alittle more expensive than previous years

    • $1, but it's worth it

  • Anyone got this 5-in-1 multi garden tool before - how good is it?

    • would also like to know

    • Yes I had the previous year green one, the fuel reservoir leaked slowly, the fuel hose also came off and caused a few days of swearing. Took it back. I used the chainsaw on a stick thing - I now use a hand saw if thats any indication.

    • Also the whipper snipper is straight, no bend so the angle of attack is horrible
