Kogan to boost port 10-15 min.

Recharged through app is easily done in 2 min.
Speed is great at home where optus has dead spot

    Happy with it so far.
Will port wife's too next week after one week trial

Smooth-sailing process from Virgin to Boost Mobile.
Bought the 5c Nano Boost simcard from Officeworks. Activated the Boost simcard online, received notification that my Virgin simcard is no longer active in 3 mins. Recharged online. Put my Boost simcard in, all done in 5 mins. No porting/activation/network issues so far, I'm so impressed!

  • Can I use the Boost sim in a Telstra Mobile Broadband modem without any issues? I'm keen on it as a backup purely for the data use.

    • Not a great idea as it only incl 80gb for the year. The value with this deal is with the incl Int'l calls, sms etc?

      • For many a few gigs are sufficient if they only check emails, other accts and do some light browsing.

        • Agreed but $150 for 80gb isnt cheap assuming one was using for this purpose alone and not using for a year of calls etc.

          • @Borg: $12.50 for 6.5 GB per mth for full Telstra mobile data is damn cheap.
Any better long term deals (not intro)?

            • +1

@Cheeper: Fair enough and will take your word for it i.e. is a good "hassle free" deal.

For me I just keep a variety of SIMs on hand from the various suppliers as a backup and has a lot more than 6.5GB included and usually just cost a doller or two (or get cash back). It comes with the hassle of monitoring them though hence not for everyone.

            • @Cheeper: I'd be interested to know if this will definitely work too. The $300 deal for 240GB works out at $25 for 20GB per month. You'd be lucky to get half that for $25 on a data only sim.

              • @wombat1955: The mobile broadband would be a backup for when I'm working remotely and away from the laptop. As my use is inconsistent it's better for me to have 365 day expiry rather than a set amount per month. I can't see a reason why it won't work. But then Telstra have their own 80GB prepaid offer for 365 days as well I've discovered so might just go with that as it's specific mobile broadband and that's the only way I'm going to use the sim.

Just be aware when you recharge and check the plans one by one the $150 link that shows which countries are unlimited is atm wrong and linking to the 20 countries list instead of the 25 countries list.

We just saw this today and nearly had a heart attack when recharging as unlimited to India is not included in the 20 countries list ($100) but is in the 25 countries list ($150).

We have told their staff and it should be fixed by now but just in case anybody gets confused the 25 and 20 countries list is confusing on the recharge page for some of the links.

    You're welcome.

    Thank you.

    • Do you have the new link?

      Thanks

      • You can only access the link when you are recharging.

The link is fine but they mixed up the 20 countries and 25 countries unlimited calls and text list with the $150 plan so it was showing the 20 countries on one of the links instead of 25 countries.

Just select one of the more expensive plans that also do unlimited to 25 countries and it should be that.

Can only be confusing if you don't notice it but most should see the discrepancy between 20 and 25.

Nearly caught me off guard because I was helping a friend recharge and was just under social anxiety pressure and not doing it in the comfort of my own room slowly and properly.

    • for the 30 x countries, is the 1200-minutes of standard calls a MONTHLY limit or is it for the duration of the 12 x months (like the 80GB/240GB of data) ?

      • whole duration so 1200 minutes is for the 12 months.. yeahhh works out 100 minutes per month if you ration it equally

  • Are these for new customers only? I want to get this for my dad but he is already a Boost customer.

    • Should apply to new and existing by the look of recharging from the app

  • anybody know whether the 1200-minutes of standard calls a MONTHLY limit or is it for the duration of the 12 x months (like the 80GB/240GB of data) ?

    • i just spoke to BOOST Mobile via live-chat
and they say it's for the entire duration of the 12xmonths of preparid plan,
i.e. 1200-minutes and SMSs for the entire 12-months.

Package includes: UNLIMTED STND CALLS & TEXT TO 25 SELECTED DESTINATIONS:
I assume you are referring to:
PLUS 1200 STND MIN & TEXT TO 30 SELECTED DESTINATIONS:
      &
PLUS 1200 STND MMS TO 55 SELECTED DESTINATIONS

Good question. I would think those are for the duration as it's an inclusion on the package which is annual and not monthly.

      • yes, i'm not concerned about the UNLIMITED calls/text to the 25 x destinations.

BOOST Mobile Live-chat confirmed to me:
        - 1200 minutes, SMSs are for the entire prepaid duration
        - it's 1200 minutes AND 1200 SMSs (NOT 1200 minutes and SMSs, e.g. 1000 minutes means 200 SMSs are left)

Anyone had issues with Activating the SIM card ?waiting from Thursday evening, still not activated. Contacted three times everyone says , I will be last person you need to contact , Very frustrating experience.

    • Are you porting to Boost or are you getting a new number from boost?

      • Getting a new number only.

        • Should be instant.
          What error(s) are you getting?

          • @CC123: when i try to online it didn't go through. So i've contacted via Chat, all they say yours ate last step of Activating please wait.

            • @praveenars: Give it till tonight.
If it doesn't work let me know

    • The online system never worked for me on 3 different sims: two ports and one new setup and for each occasion, always had to call up by having the sim in the phone and dialing 1258881, which was a waste of time going through the process twice and a bit disappointing so I hope the rest of the service whilst active is worthwhile.

One port was pretty quick but had issues with receiving calls from Vodafone (ex-Vodafone) but not Optus and that took a day or so to work and it now works. The other port took a couple of days over the weekend and is now active. I also did one new setup for a family member but decided to go long expiry vodafone because it's just an emergency phone.

If I could neg because I already made a positive vote I would due to activation issues.

      • Use online chat, took me 5-10 mins to complete the port.

    • I have almost same issue with you, I tried to activate online last Wed(6/3) night but there is a problem, so I tried contacting the live chat on Thursday morning to help me port from Optus to Boost, but up until today(Monday 11/3), my number is not ready yet. Tried call on Friday, Saturday and today, responses are:
      - there is a problem porting out from Optus due to mismatch date of birth, but when I checked with Optus, my details are correct.
      - there is a glitch in the system, so it is stuck and not processing
      - all the customer service representative says rest assured, they have put my order into a top priority, which will escalate my order, you just need to wait 24-48 hours (it is probably already 96 hours?)

seems like my number has lost in a limbo

      • How did you check dob registered with optus?… i wanna check my registered details with vodafone before i switch to boost later on in the year.. just in case i run into mismatch details problem aswell..

        • I just contacted their live chat through Optus app and asked them to check my details

      • Same issue here, although not with DOB.
I started the port online on Mon 4th (Optus to Boost) and it still hasn't gone through. Everytime I call they say it's with back of house / IT and has top priority.
My plan with Optus ends on Wednesday so I'm getting worried that the port won't go through in time.
The first number I ported the day before on 3rd had no issues at all and was done in hours - was with the same plan with Optus, so it makes no sense.

        • Oh gosh, yours is even longer than mine. My number it still not activated yet.

          • @gats: Just got a message to say it's ported! Hopefully they're working on yours next ;)

  • Just swtiched to Boost and BYO number , process has been smooth and network, 4G speed is super amazing ( i was with optus before , they were OK ) with outstanding value for money

  • +1

Mine kogan to boost took 10 min….
But wife's is taking a lot longer…..almost 1 hour and still hasn't happened yet.
Maybe blue Monday making the boost staff work slower.

    • Replying my own post…

Chatted online and problem is the name diff at kogan and boost.

Was under my name, but ported over using wife's.
      All sorted.

Hope this might help others…..make sure name and address is identical from both carriers.

      • does the address refer to the same address when I activated kogan? because I updated when I moved house. TIA

  • So if you've used up your data, there's no option to "top-up data"?

So either you get another boost recharge or PORT OUT to another telco?

    • That is my understanding, yes.

(There appears to be a makeshift option to top-up data using the international call add-on, but that is not an economical solution at 500MB a pop! Better to just recharge, and effectively lose your remaining expiry of calls/text)

  • I and Mrs finished with our 12 months sim only contract with Vodafone last month, since then we were getting calls 2-3 times each week from Vodafone pushing us to get new 12 months contract, glad to find this deal on right time. Absolutely Love the coverage in our area compared to Vodafail and we are paying half for each month.

  • Anyone know if 180p/13/1300 numbers are included? Couldn't find it in the CIS

    • Good question. I would have thought yes BUT………have no idea. Perhaps give them a call or email and ask. Lets us know if you get clarification :-)

      • I asked via chat and their response was it is if the 1800/1300 numbers are registered with Boost. Not sure if I understood that reply. If anyone else has most luck, please let us know

        • I am in a mammoth chat with them too. So far 2 operators have told me that "You will be able to make calls on 13 13xx 1800 however we need main credit balance for that"

They then looked into it further (as I don't believe them) responding with:

BOOST: "We have blocked calls and text to international numbers, satellite and premium numbers"

ME: "you are saying a 1800 number is blocked?"

          BOOST: "Yes"

          • @Danam: When they say block calls to international numbers does that mean for example they dont allow the 1200 minutes to select destinations in the $150 plan

            • @Triton: Its unlimited to 35 destinations and 1200 mins to selected others.
Anything not noted I would expect is blocked so plan is not for everone.
You can see whats incl under both via https://boost.com.au/CIS_25022019.pdf

  • Does anyone have a current promo code please

  • Help … Does anyone has problem using it as portable hotspot / tethering? It can connect but I can't seem to use the internet on my other device. It was working before when I was with Optus. Strange.

    • I had same issue, i restarted both phone and device and it started working

  • Ported from Kogan to Boost. I work in Docklands and the reception is terrible here unfortunately :(. Really disappointed. I should have tested it first before recharging for the entire year.

    • Can I ask where reception is bad? This shouldn’t be the case.
I’m wanting to switch from kogan to boost because reception is bad for me in Docklands (eg. Collins Square and 700 Bourke particularly bad)

      • +1

        Reporting back.
Reception is exceptional in Collins square (727 Collins st)

I can’t imagine reception would be worse for Telstra vs. Vodafone or Optus in this area..

        • 833 Bourke Street and Telstra reception is worst in this building. My colleagues have the same issue.

    • Are your phone bands compatible with Telstra?

    • I also work in Docklands and was thinking of porting from Kogan to Boost - any further info darkeagle?

    • I'm on the same boat. need more feedback pls.

Ported from OPTUS POST PAID to BOOST.

Done via pc on the boost activation website.

Took 15 minutes or so to port. Recharged via app (over 4G rather than wifi)

    Hassle free.

Total cost $150.05 (5c click and collect Boost SIM from Officeworks)

    Thanks for the post

    • (5c click and collect Boost SIM from Officeworks)

      Thanks for the tips

    • Thanks for the 5c SIM tip mate.

  • Coming from never being committed to a Mobile plan, it's a hard call whether to
    a) Pay $150 for 12 months.
    OR
    b) Pay $100 for 6 months
    - More Data 60GB (20GB more compared to 12mth plan) over period but 5 less Int'l "unlimited" countries i.e.Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Pakistan, Philippines & South Africa. These are however incl in the included additional Plus 600 Mins countries.

12 Months seems (to me) a long period to commit to, with the changes in offers these days hence the Quandary and whether to just splash out additional $25 per 6 Months and re-access then. Other hassle with the 12 month commitment is no option to add more Data or change anything. You are stuck for 12 months.
Life is never easy! How many others are going down the 6 month route?

    • Same here mate going the $100 for 6 months option. Essentially getting more data for the $ and not having to commit for an entire 12 months - no brainer for me!

Plus 80GB over 12mth equates to about 6.5GB/m which is similar to my current allowance, I find myself teetering towards/over that limit every month.

      • +1

its 80GB per year so if you teeter over the edge every month you may get 10 months out of it which is $15 a month. Still a good deal.

        • That is true.
I decided on the $100 6mth plan myself and mainly to see what is avail on the market then rather than locking into 12mths. Don't really need the extra incl data (but will have a better idea then). Either are still good deals regardless.

    • +2

It’s really 10GB more data over 9 months (rather than 20GB over 12 months) because you could buy the 12 month plan and use it for 9 months, which works out to the same price per month.

Effectively it’s 10gb per month for 6 months (with the shorter “lock in” period) or 8.89GB per month for 9 months (with the option of rationing the data over 12 months), for the same price per month.

I went with the latter, because my usage is generally less than 8GB, so however long the data lasts after 9 months is a bonus! (Eg. If it lasts me 10 months, then effectively that’s a free month compared to going with the 6th month option)

If you use more than 8.89GB per month, then the 6 month option will be more cost effective.

(You might also factor in time overseas - for example I had 2 overseas trips that were a month long last year, so that would have made the effective crossover point 11.4GB per month for me!)

      • That is another great way of looking/comparing options. Will remember to do this next time around i.e. break it down like this. Nice one. In my case happy with 6 months (and revise at end of that).

        • Yeah, they’re both great deals anyway, so I think you can’t go much wrong either way! :)

And if something better does come along, you’ll be in good stead to take avantage, so I wouldn’t worry about it! :)

  • +5

The plan are also available through Woolworths Self Checkout. Might be worth stacking with eGift Card or Staff Discount.

    • Cheers, do you know expire date on voucher?

      • +2

No idea. Was just checking if they had it in their system. Won't be purchasing until end of next month (when my current plan expires).

    • Can’t use e gift card, last time starter pack didn’t go through

      • I think physical items such as Starter Packs and Gift Cards doesn't work with eGift Card, but recharge does. I've seen people recharge Opal Cards with WISH Gift Cards.

      • I used eGift Card at Woolies to pay for 2x Telstra Starter packs last week with no problem.

    • Just tried purchasing at Woolworths but failed - it's an inactive product (hence the grey icon on the self checkout).

      • Also no luck at Coles.

      • Same today

    • +3

I can confirm you can buy a $150 voucher at Woolies self-checkout with a WISH eGift card purchased for 5% off.

Not sure to use $150 or $300, currently on the 13Gb Kogan 1 year plan, going to expire on Early May.

They don't have something in the middle.

    • +1

Two lots of $100 (6 Months Plan) gives you 120GB.

  • +4

Porting my entire family over from Kogan, the $150 deal is too good to miss.

    • +2

      We are doing the same.

      • +4

Kogan is going to lose quite a number of customers this round.

        • +2

With this and the current Optus offer I thought they would have offered something enticing as well?… but all is quiet.

          • @Cheeper: Kogan has raised the price of their 13GB medium plan back to $300 lol.

            • @Xtreme Detailing: Reverse psychology??

              • +1

@lovepub: If this Boost deal is indeed a permanent offer and they look after both new and existing customers, Eg $150/pa but with say 13GB of data next year and they automatically apply the extra data onto the existing customers, Boost will certainly drive a number of players out of the market.

      • +3

done the same on Thursday and Saturday respectively for wifey and myself. The transfer was done instantly, so no delays or any dramas. Really happy so far ;)

        • Thursday and Saturday

Is it have to be done during office hours to get transfer instantly? How about like after 8pm at night?

          • @superforever: one transfer was done 8.58 pm on Thursday, another one at 11.42am on Saturday (the confirmation email has been received on Monday 8.02am for this one, but everything worked straight away).

  • i Just bought SIM. what if this deal will be off before i get SIM? is there any way to recharge now?
