Quickflix* you made a misprint yourself :P

    • +2

Lol so I did, thanks :)

  • +7

    Didn't Quickflix go bust?

    • +12

They were bought out and is now basically run like an iTunes style store, only it seems that instead of changing the backend they just took down most of the content and make trials last until the year 10,000 (I am so glad I don't need to live through the Y10K bug).

    • +5

I remember I had a trial from a shopping docket for this site but they had no PS4 or Samsung Smart TV app and I could only watch content in 480p on my computer through the website. Never even used it.

  • +5

Their content isn't that great… Looking on the quick tour

    • I see at least 6 movies on the front page that are critically acclaimed …. then I clicked on one ….. 😞

      • Can you say the unspoken? Then you clicked one not in the "Bonus Content" section and you get "please pay $5 for this title".

    • +1

Only a madman would dislike Caddyshack.

  • +22

Or I can just download movies without having to give my PayPal details to a company.

    • +2

      Impossible!

  • +28

Nope this doesn't work. You do get access to Quickflix for 7980 years, but you need to pay $3.99 for each premium movie you want to watch. There is a limited selection of free movies though…

    • +23

So free access to a platform to pay to stream movies…

      • +9

Pretty much. There is a total of 41 movies you can watch for free…

      • +8

Basically what it sounds like is their web software couldn't handle pay-only movies, so they needed to make a free subscription to get it to work.

It's a dodgy hack on their subscription software, rather than paying for customising it.

    • Yes, I should have read this before reactivating my old subscription!
The free version of Quickflix absolutely sux and that's why I unsubscribed about 10years ago.

  • +41

    Why 7980 years?

      illuminati busted

      • +57

        Pft, that’s just a coincidence

    • +7

      I see you Googled “7980” too :)

  • +43

Your free trial ends on 31/12/9999, we'll email you later to remind you.

Hopefully it will be compatible with Windows 6,533

    • +2

Maybe Warcraft 5 will be scheduled for a release around then or Supreme Commander Experimentals 2.

      • +3

        Or Duke Nukem forever

        • Heroes of Might and Magic RTS Edition?

        • +2

Old Slashdot user, eh? I know it ruins the jokes, but DNF did actually come out in 2011.

        • +5

          I resent that.

        • +1

          and Star Citizen Open Beta

    • +2

Didn't you hear? Windows 10 is going to be the last version of Windows.

      • +11

Nah, Windows 360 next. Then back around to Windows One

    • Sure we will be on our 100th gen hololens by then
      ..

  • +12

    God no!

It looks like midday movies on FTA 😂

    • +3

      They have Lethal Weapon though.

    • +4

These are the types of movies that i put on to actually put myself to sleep

      • +5

Nothing like watching a banda droogs engaging in a bit of ultraviolence to put you in the mood for some spatchka. Real horrorshow, that film.

        • +1

          A little of the old in-out, in-out?

  • +1

Using the "browse" function I can't actually find anything I would watch that I don't have to pay extra for?

      • +1

        DETAILS
"Jane Parker visits her father in Africa where she joins him on an expedition. A couple of brief encounters with Tarzan establish a (sexual) bond between her and Tarzan. When the expedition is captured by savages, Tarzan comes to the rescue."

        • Jane Porter won’t be happy when she finds out about Jane Parker.

  • +1

    Can't find the android app?

    • +11

Quickflix only runs on Windows 3.1

    • +2

Android has only been around for 10 years, so you can't expect them to have an Android app yet. You will have to watch it on a more established platform such as Windows or Mac.

      • -4

After sign up it suggest to download the android app. So I would expect there is one. Negging as this is more of a way to get your details.

        • awwwwww that’s a shame

        • I didn't get anything about an android app being available. Says PC & MAC when I signed up.

          • @petestrash: Try streaming a movie. I tried lethal weapon

  • +32

It's free.. but i still don't want it lol

    • +1

Like all the non-steam gaming deals.

  • +1

Lies! I always ring at least three times and if I have time I'll try again after doing my run…note I'm a postie and I try to ring more than twice.

  • +1

Good find by OP but I'm gonna pass

    • Does OP stand for over powered? Because this deal is pretty OP

  • Yey clockwork orange!

  • +13
    • +4

      Omg thats just terrible…

      • +8

It's actually much better than I thought it would be. Some Kubrick classics. Some other classic films that have picked up a few Oscars…

        • +1

But it doesnt have the Marvel Cinematic Universe so it's a total waste of time!

    • +4

      Soylent green is peopleeeeeeee

    • -2

It's not as bad as I imagined. They have Lolita.

Oops. Dun report me to the authorities.

      I like Batman begins though

  • Is there no app for it ?

  • Watching old episodes of Desperate Housewives

  • +1

I'd signed up for this if only it were for 8000 years access. Damn tightasses.

    • 9001 or nothing

      • 9000.0000001+ or nothing

    • Don't forget OW price match & cash rewards!

  • +4

So what's an example of the 41 free movies? Are they new/good ones?

EDIT: Just saw Victorious's link above to the free movies. Kanopy is a better option IMO - https://www.kanopy.com

  • +9

Meh, 41 films and only a handful worth watching. Most are on TV all the time anyway. I probably should have checked before signing up, but it's free so whatever.

    Guess I'll rewatch poltergeist.

Edit - Guess not. It requires Silverlight which I refuse to install. Why it even uses Silverlight and not HTML5 shows how far behind it is as everyone else ditched that crap years ago. Heck, even crappy survey sites don't use Silverlight anymore.

Chrome also requires a third party Quickflix player. I was half expecting the site to require flash too.

So much for modern streaming. Passing on this now.

    • +4

Yeah, even Microsoft dumped silverlight a few years back.

    • It's interesting how obvious it is in retrospect why Quickflix failed but what's even more interesting is not only are they refusing to die but they are also refusing to learn their lesson as to why they failed in the first place. This is weird!

  • +11

SBS On-demand has shit loads of good movies to watch if you have time.

    • +1

Site requires a log-in, in contrast to ABC iView… not quite sure why, unless they intend to bring in a paywall in the future.

      • Probably for data collection purposes. (They can maximize add revenue if you're not anonymous)

  • +1

you never really own a quickflix streaming service, merely just look after it for the next generation

    (phillipe for the ozbargainers..)

    • Buy a rolex ya cheapo :D

  • Ah, so this is why Batman Begins is lacking from Netflix despite having Dark Knight and Dark Knight Rises.

    • yeah, but now at least its free without subscription

  • Oh that's Limited, can we set auto-renewal after expired?

    • +4

You will be charged automatically after 7980 years. With inflation, it'll be about $1 billion per month.

  • +3

    Hmm, quickflix = 41 movies, SBS = 500 movies.

That’s a hard pass from me

  • +1

I think I'll just use a 30 day promo link I have for Netflix. Again.

  • +1

Long term investment! A subscribe and hold strategy

  • Doesn't work for me in win10, player just says opening, then closing. Installed the newest Silverlight as well.

  • I now remember why I cancelled my Quickflix subscription 10 years ago!

  • Didn't complete signup the day before.

Got an email yesterday addressed to [FIRSTNAME]. Literally they sent me that placeholder.
