Patience pays it was posted on OZ for $328 only 2 days back at both HN and OW

  • Does this tablet support java? The laser ones didn’t

    • Java? I wouldn't expect it to

  • Got one, thanks.

    • +1

      This one or Lenovo M10?
Is it good for video calls?

      • +1

This one for sure unless you go for Lenovo P10.

        • Aside from the increased storage and extra RAM, what's the difference between the M10 and P10?

          • +1

@LlamaLlamaLamp: P10 is thinner, lighter and probably better build quality. I also think the p10 has 4 speakers compared to the 2 on M10.

          • +1

            @LlamaLlamaLamp: P10 has better cameras (8MP & 5MP vs 5MP & 2MP) and bigger battery (7000 mAh vs 4850 mAh) too.

      • +1

I returned a Lenovo M10 I bought recently as the kids mode was so terrible, and have been waiting for a deal like this

  • I will wait until 25th March when apple announce the iPad 2019, price will be around 400, and you can get the iPad 2018 at around 350. Much better screen and processor

    • +39

Yeah. But it's an iPad :(

    • Where can you get an ipad for $350?

      • +4

I think it is an assumption that the current model will reduce in price

    • Oh nice.. I have been thinking about getting an iPad since there is still a lot of apps exclusive to the Apple ecosystem.

Some old favourites are stuck behind the Apple ecosystem but I wonder is it worth $250? (my ideal haggle bargain price.. I mean I could probably get one to $150 AUD if I tried off of ebay or gumtree.. I have done so before with other electronic items xS)

  • Was looking at xiaomi mi pad 4 plus…but its Round $500+ now on Ebay.

Is this considerably close spec'd to mi pad?

    • +2

The Mi Pad 4 plus is more powerful: more ram, more powerful SoC (and GPU).

However whether it is worth and extra $100-200 (depending on sales and exchange rate) is debatable, it depends on what you want your tablet for. For under $300 this is a very good buy.

      • Play some music, watch some YouTube and movies,
And use READING EGG on it…..

I am surprised my iPad mini (very first gen) couldn't run it smoothly….takes forever to load.

        • For media consumption, the Galaxy Tab A is probably sufficient. Whilst it is a lower mid range chipset, it is still considered a current generation chip so it should be quite good.

The speakers on the Tab A are also likely better (Quad speakers with Dolby Atmos, for what it's worth on crappy speakers :p) compared to the mi pad (2 speakers but oddly both placed on the bottom of the tablet).

          • @Fiximol: the snapdragon 450 in the tab A is a lower range chipset in 2019: https://www.notebookcheck.net/Qualcomm-Snapdragon-450-SoC-Be…

the snapdragon 660 in the mi pad is mid range, which has "big cores" that are twice as fast, but more power hungry

the top range chipsets in 2019 have "big cores" which are around twice as fast again, as compared to the snapdragon 660.

so things have been moving quite fast in the space in the last few years

having said that for basic media consumption the snapdragon 450 does just fine and even has great battery life. you can also check out other china tabs like the teclast t10 or the alldocube m5s which performance similarly but are cheaper.

            • @abctoz: The 450 is still current gen; it's basically a downclocked SD625 (1.8ghz on all 8 cores instead of 2.0ghz and 600mhz on the GPU instead of 650mhz), the mid range powerhouse of the last generation. So in my mind it's still a mid range chip.

              • +1

@Fiximol: well my 4 year old $50 y550 uses the snapdragon 410, which has the same a53 cores just fewer and lower clocked. the 625 was never a power house it was just efficient.

note: i'm not saying the tab A is a bad product, i just can't stand it when people say the snapdragon 425 is mid ranged, that is an outdated.

    • Mi Pad 4 Plus is much better. If you know your way around custom roms and such the Mi Pad 4 Plus is unrivaled, the community supports Xiaomi devices get is insane.

Also the battery life on the Mi Pad 4 Plus is insane!

      • +2

any number for the insane battery life?

        • My mi pad 4plus would last me 4-5 days. I dnt use it too much i guess, just a hit of browsing for work and at home, and some ebook reading.

I dont use sim ,as i just connect it to my phone for internet or wifi at home.

Snappy as well. I have used my sis galaxy tab from last year, mi pad is just as sleek or better.

U have to know ur way around miui tho, as some permission u have to manually tweak when installing apps. But u can google if u encounter problems when installing or tweaking it. still in chinese rom mine but just changed it to english language.

Got mine from joybuy but for $400 from joybuy including $35 import tax n also shipping.

  • +1

    But it doesn't fold …

    • +21

You can probably fold it, it will just stop working when you unfold it.

      • Xiaomi Fold I am calling it.

    • +1

      Not with that aattitude.

  • -2

Did not follow tablet market for years. This is still fullHD for a large screen. While nowadays smartphones got QuadHD on small display!? Wth

    • +10

this is 280 bucks… a phone with quadhd is 5 times the price.

      • good point :)

      • A lot people wpnt need more thsn fullhd really. Just depends how fuzzy u r.
2k or more are not really good for battery life as well.

        • -1

          Errr what ?
Can anyone help this guy ? Looks like he's been disemvowelled..

      • check out le eco .. i forgot the sub model name but they had some crazy specs in a cheap nice size form factor but something was wrong with them I forgot what now

  • wonder if HN will match the ebay price.

    • never

  • +1

Wish it had S Pen support. But yeah wisoon) waiting for new iPad.

    • I thought all the A series come with SPen

      • +1

I was under the same impression but I can't find S Pen support anywhere for this. Also recently I went to telstra and they had this with a S Pen next to it, it didn't work, I went into settings and looked for S Pen, nothing.

The Tab S4 was nearby too with its own S Pen that was fully functional and I could find an entry for the S Pen in settings.

        • +1

Thanks buddy. Things are definitely changed on the Samsung department. :D

  • Is the screen IPS?
No color distortions on different angles?

  • Anyone know if these tablets are good for a POS system eg Kounta?

  • -1

It is one of the heaviest, if not the most heaviest tablet in the market. Very uncomfortable.

  • +1

Won't run Fortnite. The kids won't want it ;-) I can buy it for me! Muhahahhahaha

    • -4

Kids won't like it as it is way too heavy for them to hold. Try to hold one yourself in-store and you will know how bad this heaviest tablet ever created by Samsung really weight.

      • +4

If you or your kids can't hold 550 grams, please get them (or you) a gym pass.

      • My kids love them

  • anyone know of a good value secure desk mount for it ?

If it helps any one, my wife has had the 8 inch galaxy tab a for about 6 months and has complained since new that it is slow and sluggish even when just browsing the web….should have ponied up for a Lenovo or and iPad imo but ymmv

    • it's a different model completely. Not sure which generation of Tab A 8" WiFI version your wife has but it only has 1.5GB ram instead of 3GB.

    • If she is like my MIL that leaves open ten thousand apps and fifty million tabs on her browser, any amount of ram won't save her.

  • Hi all,

Is it possible to get GST receipt from the GG on ebay?

    • +1

Yep just got mine, invoice is $349

      • How did you get this I got an email saying processing do they actually send you a pdf of some sort?

        • If you choose to pick up the item, they print out a tax invoice receipt upon pick-up. If you choose delivery, they will send you a printed tax invoice receipt with the item. You can always send them a eBay message requesting a receipt if you didn't get one with the item.

  • Will i be able to claim TRS back when i am travelling oversea in 14th May?

    • 60 days window so probably no

    • Buy the tablet tomorrow and request a delayed delivery or call the C&C Store and request to pick up the item in ~a week. I am pretty sure they print the invoice with the date of the day you pick it up on. Claim TRS - tax invoice will show $349.

      • Ah, if only i knew that earlier. I already picked it up as the store is nect to where to work :(

        • Bugger! Sorry mate.

  • Would the Tab A be a worthwhile upgrade from a Lenovo Tab 2 a10-70f (Android 6)?

It's my wifes' primary device, but getting chuggy, thus after a nice 10" tab for browsing (with quite a few tabs open), email, word/puzzle game, YouTube… but I'm unclear how much difference this might actually make…?

    • +3

if you want buttery smooth or more future proof performance, i'll suggest you to buy an ipad or tab s3 as an upgrade. otherwise, you may want to reset your old tablet and install the apps again.

  • I have an S2 9.7, very happy with it but is after a tablet with a stylus/S pen, I know this tablet would be a downgrade but tif it comes with an S pen maybe I should consider it for under $300? Use tablet mostly for movies, browsing and note taking. Or should I upgrade to the S4 listed in the other post or just the S3 will do, which cost much more, dilemma

    • but if it comes with an S pen maybe I should consider it for under $300?

Does it? I couldn't see any mention of a pen anywhere in the Tab A listing…?

      • My bad, I thought the 10.5 has S pen included.

  • So after a tablet for predominately Netflix, Youtube & Movies. I know every person on here keeps bringing up the Mi Pad 4 Plus but for what I'd be using this for how does this Tab A stack up. I have a Samsung phone & TV so I like their products. Can I get Neflix in HD on this thing?

    • +1

      Yes you can.
My kids both received this tablet for xmas.

  • +1

Any recomended case for this tablet please guys?

    • -4

Adding a case would make this even heavier. I hate this tablet everyday as it is just way too heavy to hold. It definitely weights much more than the 550g Samsung want you to believe.

      • +2

We get it, you think the tablet is heavy

  • I alreay did 3 transaction and want to get this for my wife..how do i do that ?

    • -1

Check out as a guest or make a new account.

      • i made new account. i put my current address and it wont accept the coupon.if i change the address , then it would..however when i pick up the order they check the driving licnese so they might say my address on DL is different to what i put in ebay ?

  • Would be good if Samsung announced when the S5e tablet would be available in Australia, suspect a bunch of price drops when it hits and don't want to buy now and find out in 2 weeks…
