  • Is this the cheapest its been?

    • +2

Dyson V7 for $279 was better option and cheaper last year in November.

      • Should I wait for the V7 to be cheap or tolerate the V6? How often does v7 get close to $300ish?

        • +3

TBH, I dont like V7. My 4 year old Dyson DC59 Animal had better suction than V7. Only good thing about V7 is that it is quieter.

          • @EnALup: Reckon I'd get away with the standard v6 head?
Have carpets mostly, a bit of lino and tiled bathrooms

            • @jmu93: Yes, I would say to wait for a good deal on V8. This is not a good price V7 even and have been cheaper in the past.

If you want great battery and suction, V10 has got good reviews, though more than double the price.

              • @EnALup: Thanks - what has V8 gone for on sale usually?

                • +1

@jmu93: not sure mate. Search Dyson V8 here on Ozbargain and you can see all old deals.

                • @jmu93: Purchased a Dyson V8 Carbon back on 14th March for $549 delivered (inc eBay 10% off), though Dyson eBay. More than happy with it.

          • @EnALup: V7 is a throttled down V6 to increase battery life. Powerful enough per se. It's great on carpets. Not so good on hard floor

I bought a V6 animal version for $320 2 years ago which I remember comes with a lot more heads than this base version. I'm pretty sure at that time, the base version could be had for $240, but the extra heads are very useful and justify the difference.

There's a comparison chart in this link for all the versions available.

      • +1

That’s a super helpful comparison, thanks!

"Digital Motor" seems likes a stretch, bit of misrepresentation, or blatant quackery

    • +3

It's a reluctance brushless motor so it is digitally controlled.

I’m reluctant to use misappropriations of language

        • +1

I dunno why they don't just say brushless motor, and everyone would say oh that's really good. Crao like "digital motor" sounds like an infomercial

    • It works by turning on then off. On, off, on, off?
Yep, very dodgy BS advertising. Digitally controlled at best

    • +1

You use your digits to control the trigger!

Just highlights how ridiculously overpriced these vacuum cleaners are

    • +3

Unfortunately, there's pretty much no alternative when it comes to vacuum cleaners that are portable, battery power and actually good at sucking rather than just making noise.

  • which one is better V6 animal or the V6 or they both the same thing. I saw someone mentioned Myer was selling it cheaper.

    • Posted a comment above with this link that has a comparison chart. Myer used to have the animal on sales in the $300-$350 range I think.

Get a V8 or V10 if you can. V6 has a lot of poor design decisions

    • I probably should elaborate.

The dustbin emptying is kinda difficult. I've had mine for years and still struggle with it.

The contact pins that spin the motorhead get clogged with dust (because they're at the lip of the dustbin) and stop the motorhead from spinning. Requires regular cleaning.

Engine is ear-piercing loud on high (as opposed to my mum's V8).

    • Yeah, I've had the v6 for a few years and envy the newer models.
The air flow is really improved on the v10. The v8 has a better battery.

Mine hardly lasts long enough for a small room. No joke it runs out of charge after 2 minutes it feels like. I always wonder if it's broken but even new they don't last long while the newer models improve in this.

I had a V6. After 1 year, the battery died. I received a battery replacement, died in a couple of months. Received another one, died after warranty.

    • +5

Our v6 is a few years old and on the original battery, still goes fine, we use it every day

      • +2

        Ditto.

        • Have a ditto from me too

    • Wow… Either you have very bad luck or you didn't take good care of the battery. I have 1 for 2 years and the battery still goes for at least 15mins on a full charge. I keep using it in short bursts of 10-20s, up to 30s max, let the battery cool in between, and leave at least 10mins before plugging in after heavy usage. Avoid the turbo mode unless absolutely need to.

    • Sounds like you had terrible luck or there's an issue with environmentals or perhaps your charger ?

We've still been using the original battery 3 years later and it is still working well (on 2 different units - a DC58 and a V6). Would love a V10 but can't justify the purchase of an additional unit (at the V10 price!) as the V6 has been getting the job done for years now..

    • Just cos your warranty's over, doesn't mean you aren't covered. Australian consumer laws!

Why not buy the LG A9MULTIX that was on offer a few days ago?
Or the Xiaomi dreame or the Xiaomi F8?
Way more powerful than the V6.

They are even more powerful than the V8. There is a video on Youtube.

    Days of Dyson are over.
I will be buying the LG A9 series during the EOFY sale. Skeptical buying the Xiaomi because of the lack of support/parts compared to LG where I can just go to the store (JB, HN or GG) and get it replaced.

    • Thanks for the recommendation, will look into it!

EDIT: I tried to find the LG A9MULTIX on ozbargain's search to no avail, could you please link the deal you were talking about?

      • I could not find it either. I am pretty sure it was expired anyways.
LG ones are pretty hard to find on deals compared to the Xiaomi ones. We usually get Xiaomi ones on deals every 2 weeks if not every week.

I am pretty sure LG ones will go on sale during the EOFY sale. Maybe some ebay offers (goodguys ebay etc) will come through with a bargain price.

Just keep an eye out on the ozbargain

        EDIT: Found it: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/442882
Expired though. $379 is a bargain for what you get.

        • Thanks man, will definitely keep an eye out for it now :)

Reviews seem mostly positive but few direct comparisons the the dyson v8

  • +1

Sorry for dumb question, but how does it compare to something like this?
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/ryobi-18v-one-stick-vacuum-skin-…

Is it just the wider attachment brush selection, or Dyson vacuums are actually better?

  • Where is the source for Big W selling iTunes gift cards for 15% off?

  • +2

Ended up seeing V6 animal on Big W for $349 - went to buy as was in stock, before my wish giftcard came via an hour or so later it had sold out in Tas.

Actually got the Dyson v6 animal extra which apparently has an even better brush head for $315 delivered (using ebay 10% off 'PULL10' code)

    • Code has expired

Seems to be working now with the Prince10 code

        • +1

          Thanks. Just bought it

  • +2

Got one of these at home and only used maybe 10 times since we bought it 6 months ago. Battery died the other day when I tried to use it. Contacted Dyson and they arranged delivery of a new battery but said it was a consumable so they were only doing it in good faith. Just FYI everyone and a new battery costs $85 from Dyson if you ever need it.

    • Must be luck of the draw. Had mine for years and it sits docked and charging every day. Gets regular usage and it still performs fine

  • I am torn between this or the V6 animal :)

    Anyone can help out? :)

I have hardwood floor downstairs and carpet upstairs.

    • Looking at reviews I got the animal
Animal has heaps more fittings and supposedly should be better on carpets.

Plus can get animal for around $350 (try Dyson AU Ebay Store, Catch of the day or Big W)

  • These will always go down in price as they are depreciating assets.

Typical product life cycle for these is approx 1 year. When the next V11 (or whatever they call it) comes out, v10 will be discounted and v8 and below will be heavily discounted.

    • I bought the Dyson DC25, it cost me $550, only lasted me 2.5 years and it died. I personally dont want to buy Dyson Cordless as their parts are cheap and expensive to replace. I am not even sure which ones I should be looking at in terms of cordless vacc.

    • Every deal on this site is a depreciating asset, and older models get discounted? No kidding. But the V10 is not a clear replacement for the V8, which itself isn't a replacement for the V6. Dyson still sells all three models to cover different price points.

    • BOOM, Dyson just released V11, for a hefty $1099

    Thanks OP, got 10!
