This shows how much mark up Harvey Norman does.

But yeah it should be a good deal

  • Mmm just saw the ad on tv.

  • Getting rid of all their old stock I guess.

    • +10

yes old stock not old socks.

  • +1

    Dates please!

    • +42

We all wants dates, but alas, we're geeking it out together on OzB instead of meeting women.

      • +23

I can offer plums and dried apricots, but no dates.

      • if you get lucky, then it would be a Currant Affair?

  • +24

I don't think the words "All" and "Excludes" should be used together in marketing.

  • +13

Pretty good deal. Harvey Norman have competitive pricing already so an extra 30% is great, and the salespeople are very knowledgable and trustworthy. I always get great service from them, and the best prices no matter what I'm buying.

    • +18

Ha ha is this a piss take or haven't you been taking your meds again?

      • +8

Pretty sure it was sarcasm. + from me.

      • +5

Likewise. No one could say this and mean it.
Went looking for speakers at HN once. The guy helping me was convinced that high Herz meant low tones (bass), such that speakers going up to 20,000Hz had good bass reproduction. He refused to believe me when I tried to correct him. This was the guy in charge of the audio section.

    • +5

With a name like lazed, I think he was too lazy to take his medication.

    • +5

Bloody trolls…go find a bridge somewhere and crawl under it. Though, judging by the size of you in your picture, it'd be a pretty small bridge…

    • +4

How are your ASX:HVN shares going?

    • +2

I can hear the world's smallest violin playing…….

  • +2

    too bloody lazy to check!
until i see some model numbers and firm prices i ain't getting my hopes up!
ps netbooks excluded, does this mean netbooks generally have lower profit margins or is it because they're popular?

    • +1

they are popular due to low profit margins & low price, wow i love re-wording.

  • ends on the 15th

  • staticice > (harvey_norman_price * 70%)

    • not for the vaio's

      • I was just thinkin' VAIO. Could definitely go for an SB if they sold one with the Radeon 6630 in it.

        EDIT:
Heres the only SB series on the website:
        http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256975367753/vpcsbgg…

If it's 30% off that price, $1330 isn't bad (It actually hovers above $1800 on staticice, so this could be bloody good) It doesn't have the upgraded graphics, making it a no for me, but it's a very nice laptop nonetheless and close to US Sony store pricing.

        • Just picked one of these up… been looking for a 13.3inch system for a while, PERFECT! Bargain.

  • +2

Might be a good buy for a SONY Vaio. I bought one from HN from 2 years back, a FW series, and its since been a very reliable buy. Works like new still, and is as flashy and more unique and customisable than the current macbook generation. =D

  • Let's not get that down on this sale - the Toshiba/HN 40% off sale a month or so ago worked out well for a lot of people (e.g. my buddy and myself). As above, 30% off Vaio prices is not a bad thing.

  • are the online prices already discounted?
or 30% off what's listed online?

    ooo $625??
it's no i7 but still the cheapest quad core (phenom) and also 1gb hd 6650m pretty good for that price.

$805 makes it pretty comparable to the price of a new android 3.0 tablet.
'specially with the 64gb ssd and full windows 7 home premium.
also 2 touch screens! shame about the 3.5 hour battery life tho =[

    • +6

      SO SHIFTY!
      last night this was $1150!
do not trust these guys =P

      http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:R_45VaN…

      • +1

I wonder if that is illegal. Its definitely sounds like it should be…
edit: I'm not saying that the price now is bad (its actually pretty good), but its just the fact that they are blatantly jacking up the price before advertising a 30% discount…

  • Any idea if they sell Asus gaming series (G53,G73) in any of the Melbourne store?

    • I saw a Asus G73 at the Chadstone store a couple weeks ago. According to whirlpool forums, it's the same model they have at JB Hifi which is G73SW-FHD-TZ017V. If anyone could confirm that they get this laptop on sale, it would be greatly appreciated.

this laptop is awesome for $978
    sandy bridge i7 quad, 1gb 540m optimus-switchable, blu-ray drive etc.
i should replace my desktop with this =D

  • is this 30% off also for touch screen tablets? since its a computer as well, looks like it yes ! :)

  • Just so Canberran's don't waste their time for the Sony, Woden and Fyshwick both don't have stock of the Sony SB18, and the Woden manager said only floor stock that is eligible for the 30% off

  • I heard on the radio that clive peters i having 30% off as well. It also inlcudes netbooks.

  • +3

I suspect they may have bumped their prices back up on their website, so they can knock off 30% in store.

I'm pretty sure the following model Samsung was previously well below $1000 last week: http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256973113902/samsung…
    Now it's $1299.

Compare that to the same model at Officeworks for $799….
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/products/Technology/Com…

Take it with a grain of salt…

    • +1

You didn't think that it would be 30% off retail did you? Oh no, at Harvey's its add 40, take away 30. And they make up a retail price that exceeds the manufacturers recommended.

AND….ring around your nearby stores as notebooks can vary by $200 from store to store due to no price consistency.

The staff at the HN's I visit occasionally have gone from semi-trained middle aged staff to peanut fed, poor speaking, ignorant juniorburgers. They other thing they can't hide very well is how they prey on customers by targeting the ones who look stupid enough to be upsold and not bargain. Just go there one day when there is a mum with 2 teenage duaghters who don't look purchase-confident and you will see the sharks approach while they ignore you with the brochure in your hand from another retailer. It's enough to make you stand in the middle of the department and scream "EXCUSE ME!".

      • You're absolutely spot on.

I was at a HN recently in WA (this is a nation-wide epidemic), looking at power boards for my media room. This kid shows up in no time, couldn't have been more than 20, looked like he couldn't make a cup of Nescafe without ****ing it up.

Just out of curiosity I decide to test him by asking "What's the difference between these two Monster Power boards here?"

He pauses for a moment, looks at me and replies "Well, price for one thing".
I honestly wanted to slap that guy.

Being the idiot that he was, I was able to con him myself into giving me $60 dollars off a Monster AV800 which is normally $150.

Oh Harvey Norman, you have done it again… to think that we could fall to your trick. I have boycotted them long time ago. Poor service, almost always more expensive than their competitor, and most staff are only trained to milk your money but not on what they are selling.

    • The staff do try to hard sell things on top of what you need but if you know what you want and stay firm usually you do get a bargain.
When Clive Peters were having 40% sale on Toshiba I got a L650/0k4 for $700 which is not '40%' off in comparison to other suppliers but still a bargain.
With this 30% off you will probably get closer to 20-25% off i think.

  • A Sony SB18 for $1327 is a very good price!

    • That's exactly what I just bought. Very happy!

    • Very, got a mate in Adelaide to buy one for me since ACT had zero stock! 1327 + salary sacrifice = very happy bargain chappy

I wish windows laptops had high resolution. My HP 15" laptop has a miserable 1366 x 768 =[

Edit. This one looks very good.

    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256975372390/sony-va…

    • I think that's a HP thing, not a Windows thing.

  • is it only laptops? since conditions clearly doesnt state much.

  • laptops, printer and harddrives, just checked at cleeve peeters, might be same for HN too

  • cleeve peeters on sales too?

  • Is this a good buy guys
    http://www.harveynorman.com.au/product/1256976029516/toshiba…
They dont have this model however their ordering the 6gb in for $1599->1119.3?

    • isn't that $200 more expensive for an extra 2gb?

    • Hey jai_jai… I think the better way to go is get the P750 4gb model for $1398 > $978. I went into a Clive Peters and they said they could upgrade to 6gb for $80 or 8gb for $129. $978 + $80 = $1078. You can get the 8gb version $8 cheaper than the one they can order :-) Or get it done at a PC shop and the upgrade would be cheaper again.

      • Thanks for the advice, might go with the 4gb ram model, rang them up…they didnt have stock on any other good laptops.

        • Just do the upgrade yourself, even if you don't normally tinker around inside computers this RAM upgrade is very easy. $46 from MSY for an extra 4GB (http://www.msy.com.au/Parts/PARTS.pdf) or maybe a little more from your local PC shop.

I got this laptop yesterday, haven't upgraded the RAM yet but have had a look inside. There's a small plate on the bottom, which only has one small screw you need to remove. Once inside the RAM just slots in right on top of the single stick already there.

  • I went to clive peters in coburg and tried to purchase a wd essential 1.5 tb external drive. It was marked on the shelf for $84, however when i brought it to the counter they wouldn't relent on giving me 30% on it. (Clive Peters is 30% off on hard drives as well as netbooks…) They wanted to give to to me for 30% off $99.95. $70 for a 1.5tb external not too bad but i was too pissed off to buy it by then.

  • So what are the best buys under $1000 (after discount) from this sale?
