not much excitement in the discussion though

The ACCC really needs to crack down on the use of “refurbished “.

ACCC needs to crack down on comments without substance or detail.

        Ironically, yours? (And mine).

        without substance

Seems clear to me. What has been done to these? New shell? New battery? Factory reset? Spit cleaned with a dirty rag?

Was any refurbishment actually completed, or is it just a fancy way or saying second hand.

Least with offical Apple refurbs, you know you’re getting quality.

        • Unfortunately Apple doesnt seem to sell refurbished iPhones in Australia

          • @Riker88: Correct. I was referring to Apple refurb in general.

        • Agreed. Considering a lot of phones battery lives diminish a lot after 1-2 years of use, they really do need to narrow and define refurb properly so sellers can't exploit with this.

    • I think “refurbished” is fine as long as it is sold with the original warranty period and is free of cosmetic defects. i.e. 1 year.

If it has no warranty (or a limited one) it should be second hand.

      • with the original warranty period

        This doesn’t.

    • Also, at what point do shops need to hold a second-hand dealer licence for goods offered for resale. https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-second-hand…

Are they old stock, shop demos, returns or used/warranty claims?

Is the 1Yr warranty from Apple or Aldi?

Aldi. These have nothing to do with Apple. Wouldn’t be surprised if they’re not even AU stock.

Do these even work after apple was sued for knowingly slowing down old iPhones?

    https://www.cnbc.com/2017/12/22/apple-sued-after-it-admits-t…

    • Why would these stop working if the company gets sued?

  • Yeah if the battery is original I would steer totally clear.

    • You mean if it isn’t?

Apart from that it’s rather an old phone and I’m sure you can feel it using the newest iOS. But hey, you can still use the newest iOS and will probably qualify for this year’s update too.

I returned the one I purchased from aldi yesterday (60 day return policy), it actually was 128gb and a US model, the battery life was shocking. With the money I got back plus the $200 JBHIFI voucher I purchased an iPhone 7 (128 gb)

Anyone bought one of these and can vouch for the condition? Any scratches etc?

Apple Genuine Refurbished are indistinguishable from new except for the plan box (as they replace the battery and chassis)

    • No scratches on the one I just returned, it was near new.

      • What was battery health percentage? How do you know it was US model?

        • I googled up the model/serial number of the phone and the battery was indicating 82%.
Every time I had to update a few apps, I could see the battery percentage count down in front of my eyes.
Also to point out I was given a 128 gb model as oppose to 64gb advertised one.
