      Swing and a miss

      • +2

        Much like this deal?

  • +54

    They've been $1 for a while now… At least a few weeks.

      • +39

I read it here on OzBargain.

        • +20

          LOL! jv just ragdolled tightarse

        • Smack down!

        • +1

          JV for president.

      • +1

It's been the basis of a few Hacks.
        eg https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/449451

        • +2

          Yep…

Here's where I read about the $1 hamburger deal

          https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/449451

        • -1

But it's not a dupe. The titles are completely different deals.

          • +1

@Clear: We never said this was a dupe - but we read about it in the Hack!

            • -4

@INFIDEL: Doesn't change the fact. Should have posted it if you'd known.

              • +4

                @Clear: triggered

              • @Clear: Those were popular & controversial Deals - better complain about so many Ozbargainers then😠

                • -1

@INFIDEL: Reports have been cleared so it's not a dupe. It's all good here with me :) The more hacks we get the better anyway.

                  • @Clear: You replied to my comment "Should have posted it if you'd known."

Come off it - so many people knew. I just commented where I saw it.

                    • -2

@INFIDEL: Was meant to go to jv as that's where I clicked reply to. If I was wrong the deal would be gone anyway.

                      • @Clear: No, you clicked reply & directed 2 criticisms to me (telling me it is a not a dupe - which I never claimed because it's clearly not a dupe, & that I should have posted it as a deal)😠

And then we received all those negs for simply saying where we saw the offer - in a Hack.

So no use replying to this comment - that jv should have posted it - then unpublishing your comment to me😠

                        I'm not jv!

                        • @INFIDEL: Unpublished because no one would believe me anyway as it wasn't supposed to go to you.

                          • @Clear: Well you sent all those to me.

                            • @INFIDEL: Heat of the moment. I'm sorry :)

                              • @Clear: 😀
Was a bit worried about you!
You're usually great at what you do👍

                                • @INFIDEL: Yeah thought I hit reply on jv, then got all the notifications from you and went downhill from there… I'm good at that :P

                                  • @Clear: What - you didn't do it to collect negs (like jv)😉
                                    All good👍

                                • +4

                                  What happened was very UnClear

          • @Clear:

The titles are completely different deals.

The 'hack' requires you purchase $1 hamburgers…

  • +10

Been $1 for ages (months at least) as far as I know

    • The were $1 earlier in the year, then they went back to $2.70 for a few months. The $1 price only returned about 3 weeks ago.

  • +3

Can't we unexpire the last deal. This doesn't deserve a new post.

      Or 11 burgers for free*
      .
      .
      *10 burgers contain no meat

    • Can you provide a little more detail on this hack please, sounds very interesting. Thanks

  • It’s not showing up on the app…

    • +5

      It's not under 'offers'

It's under the regular hamburger section. It's been there for ages…

      • +1

Did you check your app before saying this?

          Here you go…

I've been buying them for $1 for a few weeks now… Got one on the weekend too…

          • -8

@jv: Umm, McDonald's is actually bad for you. You must not know that if you've been buying them for a few weeks now and on the weekend.

          • +1

            @jv: McDonald's doesn't like us taking screenshots.

        • +2

I did and it’s showing as available. It never disappeared from the app.

          • @Nousernamehere: Can confirm this is store location specific. Tried a different store and it’s available

            • +1

@ilovefullprice: Stores have individual control over their app/kiosk menu. Probably when people were doing the 10 free hamburgers hack the manager took it off the app, and have never renenabled it. Just ask in store for them to turn it back on.

  • +4

Ye been $1 for months they just don't show it up on their boards for some reason.

    • +1

So how do you order it

      • +7

you just go can i get a hamburger lol. i generally ask if they still are a dollar and they are like ye

    • +1

Not in Victoria. Only just came back recently

  • +3

These are crap without cheese. How much do they charge for a slice of cheese to be put on a $1 hamburger?

I miss their McDoubles for $1.50. Two of those gave me a 4 patty cheeseburger with double cheese for $3.

    • +4

Actually I quite like them minus the cheese :)

    • +8

      These are crap without cheese.

      I just bring my own.

Back again for a limited time.

    But it was never gone.

    • +1

It was gone in Melbourne, VIC for > 2 months. Only came back 3 weeks ago.

    • It wasn't available in Victoria until a few weeks ago

  • A guide how to use the deal:

    • Sorry hero, neg's going soon.

    • +3

Just like Melbourne… All people living in Melbourne are not named Mel, hence the name Melbourne is misleading.

      Silly logic, isn't it.

    • +7

100% agreed. I was fooled once when I bought frankfurters and discovered they aren't actually made from Frank. They're not gonna fool me twice!

      • They were created in the city of Frankfurt, so it is entirely appropriate.

        • +1

I wonder if Hamburg is known for anything.

    • +5

Ham radios are not made from ham.

Baby Oil isn't made from the oil of babies

      • You sure about that ;)

    • So if someone told you they are selling a beef burger but its made from dog, you wouldn't have issues?

      • +2

Have you heard of this German city? They're known for a certain food item. :)

    • +3

Cottage Cheese isn't made from cottages either.

      • It was traditionally made in cottages? It doesn't to be just the material but can also be a process, location etc.

          location

          In that case…

The Oxford Dictionary defined a Hamburger steak in 1802: a sometimes-smoked and -salted piece of meat, that, according to some sources, came from Hamburg to America.

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hamburg#Cuisine

          • @Hybroid: Yes, good try. The hamburger MAY be a deriviate but cannot be certain. Also note from the same source (which you have somehow omitted). "sually served with potatoes and vegetables like any other piece of meat, not usually on a bun"

Last time I checked a steak is not a burger. A quintessential component of a burger is the buns much like how a brain is vital for a human being.

I appreciate you trying substantiate your claims with some logic and evidence, unlike the many here.

            • @nahi11:

Last time I checked a steak is not a burger. A quintessential component of a burger is the buns much like how a brain is vital for a human being.

Ahhh yes but a steak sandwich can be a burger. After all Maccas in the US love to refer to their burgers as 'sandwiches'. ;)

            • +1

@nahi11: Burger is derived from the word Hamburger. Hamburger is not derived from it's abbreviation Burger!
1930s (originally US): abbreviation of hamburger

Strange you think the term "burger" has nothing to do with the original Hamburger Steak, which had its origins from Hamburg & brought to USA by Hamburgers (people from Hamburg).

The original Hamburger (Steaks) never had bread or buns! People sat down to eat them in a less hurried time.

But, those "steaks" were made from ground beef - just like beef patties! We wouldn't call those steaks today!

Food evolves with people's needs & tastes.
Looking back & saying those weren't Hamburgers by today's common use of the word is definitely not useful. Hamburgers in restaurants today are still made with minced meat, but may not necessarily be served between buns either! The bread is just for convenience, not what defines the food.

The development of the hamburger shows the influence of work on the need for quick convenience foods, rather than the previous slow sit down meals of popular Hamburger (Steak). An influence with us today.

"While the inspiration for the hamburger did come from Hamburg, the sandwich concept was invented much later. In the 19th century, beef from German Hamburg cows was minced and combined with garlic, onions, salt and pepper, then formed into patties (without bread or a bun) to make Hamburg steaks. These early burgers were considered gourmet and were quite pricey, given the quality of Hamburg beef. When German immigrants began arriving in New York and Chicago, many earned a living by opening restaurants. Menus frequently featured Hamburg steak, an Americanized version of the German offering. It was often the most expensive dish on the menu. During the Industrial Revolution, factory workers were served Hamburg steak from food carts. They proved difficult to eat while standing, so one creative cook sandwiched the meat patty between two slices of bread (the culinary innovator’s name has sadly been lost to history). The Hamburg sandwich was born, an evolution that boosted this food’s popularity" https://parade.com/61481/toriavey/where-did-hamburgers-origi…

"The first known “Hamburger” was made by Charlie Nagreen. He introduced his “American Hamburger” at the Outgamie County Fair in Seymour, Wisconsin in 1885. His “hamburger” though wasn’t on a bun" https://www.todayifoundout.com/index.php/2010/09/why-a-hambu…

@INFIDEL: Great novel, I look forward to the hardcover release 😂

                • @spackbace: I'm thinking of bringing it out between 2 buns 🍔 - easier to digest😉
A tasty morsel of history 🍴

https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/440933 <- Duplicate of this… However I can assure you that the deal has not ended, and is a "semi permanent" menu addition.

    • +1

and is a "semi permanent" menu addition.

Therefore not a bargain, as it is normal price…

      • +9

That's where it gets a little bit grey… Normal price at my store is $2.15.
Discount price is only valid between 10:30am-Midnight.
McDonald's Australia Pty. Ltd. uses the term "semi permanent" when they do not know the promotion's expiration date is going to be. Therefore, they use the term "semi permanent" so it can be withdrawn at any moment. Ozbargain, take of that as you wish.

Thanks… Can I have fries with that?

          • +2

            @jv: That's not a bargain… They charge minimum $2 for a small, when I'd honestly prefer the 2 Hamburgers.

            • @burgermaniac:

They charge minimum $2 for a small,

I got large fries for $1 on Saturday…

              • @jv: I'll just see myself out…
The regular store pricing (without the app) is (minimum) $2

              • @jv: That was a one-off MyMaccas offer.
