  • Does anyone know how easy it is to reduce the credit limit on this card? Can this be done by the customer themself through Bankwest internet banking or do you need to need to write to them to ask them to change it?

  • +2

There is some crazy weird criteria you need to satisfy to get the world MC card here… I've tried a few dummy applications but no luck unless you have some outrageous amount of savings in cash like $1m+++

    • I found the same doing fake applications. Next to impossible to get the World Card.

    • same here. wonder if anybody has had more luck applying over the phone rather than using the online form and it's weird calculator

  • Does anyone know the minimum income requirement for the Qantas platinum card?

  • Anybody been successful?
If so, mind posting a rough financial situation used for the application?

    • same, got denied when there really shouldn't be any reason I should be.

Was also confused with the mortgage owning since it's a joint account. I feel like I would have gotten more success by calling instead.

    • Applied for the world, approved for the Platinum. Asked by email why, let's see what they say.

Reading other posts here it seems to be almost impossible to qualify for the world.

      • I got approved for World. I bank with Bankwest though, not sure if that helps.

  • What a useless bank, applied when this deal was posted, approved and sent all the documents but yet to hear back. Despite three calls to them.

    • Approved? Wouldn't u be just waiting for card arrival?

      • Partially.

    • @nadan - they told me apparently they’re swamped with applications and there’s a 5 day back log. You’d think they’d anticipate demand better.

  • How long does it take for the 90k bonus points to be credited after meeting the spend criteria? Really impressed with how NAB does this (within days of reaching the threshold), irrespective of payment cycles.

    • Within 5 months:

Bonus Qantas Points will be transferred to your account within five months of account opening.

      • I saw that, but that's just their minimum standard. NAB's position is "Points will be credited to your points balance within 3 months of meeting the spend criteria" where the reality is within a week. Hence my question to the community to see what everyone's experience is with Bankwest.

  • Been nearly 1 week and still no update. But disappointed because I was hoping to use the card when travelling in a few days, if I was approved.

I would have thought BankWest would be quick to action as they’re owned by commonwealth bank.

    • Still no update from BankWest.

Called them yesterday and was told it will still be potentially another week for an update. Very disappointed that it could take them up to 2 weeks to assess a credit card application. Every time I speak to them they tell me someone will contact me within 24 hours but I don’t hear anything.

I ask to make a complaint and get told to just do it when the person finally contacts me.

I thought between BankWest and St George, that BankWest would be the faster option. Looks like I was very wrong.

      • Did you not sign up for the offer you posted? https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/461896

That's the one I signed up for and was approved on the same day.

        • @unity1 - I was going to but read a few comments from others saying St George was slow. So I thought BankWest would be faster.

          • @StonedWizard: I suppose it depends on how mainly applications they received. Going by the number of of votes, it would appear more people applied for the BankWest offer.

This was approved without any call or follow up, all on the same day.

            • @unity1: @unity1 a BW finally got back to me and approved the card. They’re express posting it to me.

Very happy with their service today, took them a while to reach out but when they started auctioning things it was done ASAP. Was also surprised that all of it is done in WA. Meanwhile the digital login and card details I received within 10 minutes.

Assuming you get your application in early or you don’t mind waiting, I’d recommend BankWest.

              • @StonedWizard: Glad to hear. They are all the same to me. If they credit me my Qantas points then I'm happy, then time to move on.

  • A very incompetent bank to say the least, I was conditionally approved. I rang several times to find out, got told it takes two business days. The two business day has turned to two and half weeks.

I called again and got asked about a few other cards and confirmed the details, got told no more confusions and that a decision will be made in the next day, this was last Thursday.
I called again yesterday and got asked the exact questions about the existing credit cards, told them the same thing. However still no updates.

    • i applied on the 28th May. Still awaiting "credit checks" and "current cards"

      • This puts me off from trying to apply

    • +1

@nadan - I’d definitely ask for it to be escalated.

I made a complaint through BankWest complaints area and that seemed to get things escalated. They also respond within 48 hours.

      • Thanks, I did end up escalating it, I have now got the final approval. Waiting for the plastic to arrive.

However don't recommend backwest, they are terrible.

I’m currently in Singapore using the card and so far the conversion the cards giving me is the same as what comes up in Google. Hope this helps anyone thinking of using this card overseas.

I’ve previously used Macquarie bank debit card and found the rate better than what was on Google.

  • +1

    What a joke,

Only got offered the lesser card

    100k plus income
    No debt
    Current 15k credit card limit
    Credit score 930
    over 200k in savings

Mate with much less savings less income and has a car loan got approved

  • +1

Approved - World M/C. Yes lots of hurdles but the staff are quite approachable.

    • How long was your process? Just applied yesterday (conditionally approved for Platinum, which is what I wanted) and wondering how long the doc check takes.

      • close to a month :O

        • Damn, going overseas next month and it looks like I've left it too late to get the benefit of the card :(

          • @epicfacepalm: Going interstate next week and was hoping to use the card for holidays… ah well (applied yesterday evening)

            • @deadlast28: Called them up and apparently income validation following conditional approval is taking around 6 business days because that team is behind on their workload.

              • @epicfacepalm: Cheers for the info!

              • @epicfacepalm: This info puts me off from applying it. Prob will wait another week or two and making sure I have the points credited from the Citibank before I try my luck on this card

  • My Westpac Altitude Black & AMEX are due to hit the 1yr mark by the end of July so I'm looking to switch.

To improve my credit score, should I cancel them before I apply for this? Hmm….

  • Their internet application is dodgy. I just went through the whole process and was approved, and then while I was entering balance transfer information the page must have timed out or refreshed and took me back to the beginning. I tried to retrieve the application but couldn't. I tried to apply again and it rejected me (presumably because of my previous application).

I wonder what that's done to my credit history now and if it will affect my next application.

    • +1

Did you get a reference number? You can call them up. Something similar happened to me. I had to really hassle them to get the whole thing sorted. I actually had to redo the whole application on the phone with them in the end.

    • +1

As mentioned call them with the ref number and they will be able to find your other application. I got told I had done 3! Didn't realise getting to step 4 where they suggest a card was considered an application

      • I will have to call them. I didn't get a reference number (that I saw) and couldn't retrieve the application using my email address band DOB, but I did select the card and went as far as entering balance transfer amounts. I didn't get an email though, and the card doesn't show up in my online banking.

      • Two calls later, I have an application reference number, and have been verbally assured by the call centre staff that my (first) application is being processed, I just never got any communication from them that it had been received.

I think their system might be a bit flaky.

  • I applied on the 24th, as of today, they are apparently working on applications dates 20th onwards, so they are behind..

    • June or May???

      • June, they are a week behind their normal schedule was what I was told.

  • FWIW… I applied last night.. Got a missed call today and email asking for some additional information and verbal confirmations. Gave them a call back, answered all questions and 10 mins later I got an email saying my card will be here in 5-10 days

  • Just wondering, at what point through this application will it impact my credit file?

    • When you hit submit application.

      • So is this before or after they advise which card you are eligible for?

  • +2

I applied for the World Card though was offered lower Platinum card after the online approval process, which i accepted anyway (50K pts is better than nothing).

After getting a call to provide additional info, i asked the agent if my initial application for the World Card could be review, which he said he'd pass back to the applications team.
BAM! Next day approved for the World Card.

    • Same here. Applied online for World, instantly rejected and offered platinum. Sent them the payslip and in the email asking them to reconsider my application for the World. After a few phone calls within a week, got approved for the World.

The application process was longer than usual, but the staff on the phone was very friendly and helpful.

  • I currently have the Bankwest Zero (not Qantas) MC. Do I qualify for the Qantas points if I cancel that and (say 1 month later) apply for this?

    It says:
The 90,000 Bonus Qantas Points promotion is only available to new Bankwest Qantas Mastercard customers who apply for a Bankwest Qantas World Mastercard credit card…..
You are not eligible for this promotion if you upgrade or vary your existing Bankwest credit card to a Bankwest Qantas World Mastercard…

Does it count as varying or upgrading by cancelling?

  • Worst bank ever. Taken 2 weeks and still no contact. I sent them my payslips straight away. Even hsbc was quicker than this

    • Same here! The wait to speak to someone on the phone is also very long.
I went into a branch and they were quite useless. I'm thinking if I should just pull my application.

      • 5 minutes after writing that I got an sms saying someone is looking into it. I logged a complaint 2 days ago but and asked for escalation

    • Yup. Worst ever. Been 3 weeks for me.

I've sent them my payslips immediately and did the ID check in a branch the day after I applied.

2 weeks later, I got an email asking for my bank account statements and a photo ID.

Why couldn't they just ask for everything during the application?

ANZ approved my application in 60seconds (I do bank with them though)

      • Worst Bank ever! Been 3 weeks and still haven't heard anything. Gave them a call and finally got through after a long wait. They told me my application has been declined and a mail will be coming through the post shortly. Thanks for the phone call?

First time ever that I got a credit card application declined with any bank. I have a clean credit history and always pay off my card on time.

Avoid this bank like a parasite!

        • Finally, my card has been approved.

  • Does anyone know what day of the month earnt QFF points are transferred with Bankwest? Thanks in advance.

    • +1

I’m interested too. Hit my minimum spend mid July so will report back when points have arrived.

      • Did you get your points yet?

        • Yes, i received my points at the start of this month, after my 3rd completed billing cycle.

  • +1

Hit minimum spend before the 2nd statement was issued today, no points credited yet. (Hit the spend about 3 weeks ago)

    • Same here. Don’t see any points in my QF account

      • +2

After reading the full terms and conditions, the account has to be active a minimum 2 months AND may be credited anytime over a 5 month period…

        • Oh that’s a long time for the points to come in!
          Thanks for the info

    • Same here. Nada no bonus points yet….

Most other cards are instant from the 1st statement.

  • Finally got approved for the world card. Took (profanity) ages.

  • Applied and sent payslips on 2 August. Called up on 9 August for status, was told that they have received my payslips and should get a call on 12/13 August. All I've heard is crickets

  • Do you earn points when spending in foreign currency?

  • Update for anyone waiting - the verification team is currently working through applications submitted around 1st August apparently

  • Just got my email the card will arrive in next 5-10 business days - I applied on 02/08 - I had to chase them up couple of times via Email. Got the platinum, not the world

    • How long did you have to wait for the approval email after getting the phone call from Bankwest?

  • Has anyone got the points yet from this offer?

  • Re: When Qantas Points are credited:
    - My first spend was on 12 June
    - Made the minimum spend criteria $5,000 around 28 June (a significant car tune up and a few work expenses got me there quick)
    - Contacted Bankwest support via app - couldn't provide an estimate
    - As of 23 August still have not received the bonus or the points from spend accumulated so far. Given the 5 month estimated timeframe from the website I guess it's not unusual to be waiting this long

    • Oh dear. This in't really what I wanted to hear….

What about your general earn points, are they being transferred monthly?

      • +1

Not yet - it is currently within the timeframes as stated in the 'Things you should know' section at the very bottom of: https://www.bankwest.com.au/personal/credit-cards/qantas-fre…

Not ideal but still within the T&Cs as stated publicly on the website

        • Great. Thanks for this info.

      • +4

If it’s any use, I contacted them a few weeks ago about this. I’ve had my third statement (as of 18/8), they said points would be transferred around 5/9 for me and then on 5th of the month going forward (which incidentally is the same day the transfer the points for the transaction account). So looks like after the third statement for the standard points. Within 5 months for the bonus, but they did confirm I’d met the criteria, so I’ve kept the convo in case there’s any issues, but hopefully there won’t be…

The 10k signup bonus from the transaction account last year took a few months to post, but it did turn up without prompting, and within the advertised timeframe.

  • +1

Finally got the 90k points ‘mentioned’ on today’s statement. However, they’re not paying them out just yet:

    Opening Balance: 10,xxx
    Accrued this month: 92,xxx
Credited to your QFF account this month: -12,xxx
    Closing Balance: 90,xxx

A bit frustrating but at least I can stop using this card (except for overseas transactions) and move on to the next.

    • good to see at least it's starting to come through.

Does this mean you have to wait another month to get the bonus points into the QFF account?

      • I think so, although it could be that they’ll really let us wait the full 5 months as per the terms.

    • I just checked my statement and mine is also showing the 90K points now too.

      • 3rd statement?

        • +1

4th statement but my first only covered 3 days of spending. Reached the bonus points spend threshold in the period covered by my 2nd statement.

          • @bozbargain: Yeah same as me, first statement only covered a few days.

    • Same. 4th statement issued 14/09/2019 and the 90k bonus 'credited' to my account. I suspect it will be paid out like my 'regular spend' points were around the 4th or 5th of the month.

      • @bnoz - I can definitely see them taking their time paying out the points.

I hit the minimum spend in June and still haven't received them.

      • I'm on my 3rd Statement and I've had 0 points credited officially, are you getting Standard Points but not Bonus Points?

I hit Bonus Points before 2nd statement was issued.

        • @deadlast28 - I received my 3rd statement and my bonus points are showing on that.

Bankwest said it will take 21 days to show up in my Qantas account.

          • @StonedWizard: Cheers, I'm probably a month behind you as I got my 1st statement 2 days into having the card…

  • Just recieved my 3rd statement. I met the spend requirment within 2nd period.

No sign of bonus points or of points being transferrred to QFF account.

    Pretty disspointing at this point.

    • Same situation here.

Any update on receiving the points?

      • I've had the general spend points credited but not yet the bonus points. I'm expecting them around the 5th of November.

  • My points finally arrived in my Qantas account today.
