ASUS TUF FX505 15.6" GTX 1050-3GB/ R5, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD $849.15 (eBay Plus), $899 (Non Plus) + Bonus Headset @ Wireless 1 eBay

PAPPY

So I just bought this very reasonable laptop for $849.

You can redeem for free ASUS TUF Gaming H5 Headset worth $175RRP, could probably sell on eBay for $100.
https://www.asusrewards.com/

So really it's $750-$800 for an entry-level laptop.

I have to get an early night. If an admin thinks this is worth the buy please feel free to add the good details.

  • Looks decent for the price.

It is ok but if you are already spending $800+ you might as well save up an extra $300 and get a 1060 6gb laptop for not much more but will add at least a couple of years minimum for the gpu to keep relevant.

Can't upgrade the cpu or gpu (afaik) with laptops so the base configuration for the cpu gpu is important the ram, ssd, hdd even network card can all be added/upgraded later.

      • link to a 1060 laptop for 1.1k? I saw a refurbished one on the dell dfo the other week though!

They come and go but you have to keep your eyes peeled for it but for the avid bargain hunter they do appear every now and then. (if you want GTX 1070 laptops the best I have seen was maybe $1.7k to $2k AUD a few times commonly on sale around the $2.3k mark might get lucky on gumtree but I would be scared to drop that much cash on a risk buy unless I was loaded or feeling gambly)

But yeah I run a desktop GTX 1050 Ti Low Profile and if I had opted for a 1060 6gb instead (albeit different case) then majority of my games would be able to keep at 60 fps 1080p med to high settings with no dips.. a 1050 Ti really is cutting it for decent graphics and gameplay so a 1050 would be low settings 1080p maybe

Having said that this laptop is great value but reselling it will be a pain and not much value depends on your use case I suppose.

It is a great starter laptop for a serious gamer and enough for most kids first gaming laptops.

But if you want to skip that level go 1050 Ti minimum 1060 6gb recommended.. above that and the price becomes ridiculous and you wish you bought a desktop instead monitor/extra ram/extra storage and all.

          • @AlienC: Thanks for your post dude! That first deal was pretty good (cpu is a bit of a downer but a 1060 for under 1k is heaps good even if it was only 3gb)!

            BTW the Dell G3 i5-8300H/8GB/256GB/GTX 1050ti 4GB should go down to $999.20 for tomorrow's PEOFY 20% discount too :)

            • @CVonC: Yeah oh just realized it was only 3gb which puts it close to a 1050ti.

Nice find yeah a $1k 1050ti 4gb laptop is ok.

I got one of those! It was a Dell G5. So happy about the price, performance and experience. Would recommend if you're still keeping an eye on the refurbished outlet.

          • +1

@deliciousdimsim: Yeah you got a great deal, it was the only one I believe. I spent too long thinking about it as I don't need a new laptop atm anyway :P It was i5-8300H + 6GB 1060 right? There's a 15 5000 with those specs for $1279 right now. I think you got it when there was 10% off?

            • +1

@CVonC: i5 and 1060 6gb. Waiting is good! Means you're going to get a faster laptop at a cheaper price. I just didn't want to watch any more laptop reviews. Too tiring.

Yeah I agree, but I know some people who this is perfect for, who would flat out refuse to pay over 1000 out of pure ignorance.

        • I know it is what it is gotta just go for what the budget allows unfortunately I suppose.

    So this model is FX505DD.

I'd recommend to get the FX505DU model. It has better processor, 120hz display, 1660Ti.
Granted it'll be a bit more expensive but worth the extra money. It also comes with the headset promotion.
listed price is $1699, comes down to $1499 with ebay 15% off. With 10% off gift card from Woolies a while ago, it could come down to $1350.

That's not a bit more expensive, that's Different price range. Lots of people are looking for good sub thousand moneys laptop
