If you choose number porting at sign up, you should have 12 months to activate. I chatted with support today.

Agreed - I don't really want to authorise the number transfer until I actually have the SIM, but the order process seems to require you to do so.
On further reflection, if you made a typo when entering your DOB for the porting authorisation, the transfer couldn't be completed until such time as you corrected the mistake.

Does anyone know if we can purchase multiple sims to use for sim hopping (using a single ported number)? I tried to do this using a different email address but it appears the promo code is tied to the phone number at sign up! Is there any clever way around this? :)
usually works fine, I just bought it while having another active amaysim number. but it has 30-days expiry from the date of purchase..

Anyone considering signing up for this deal should use a referral. This will give you 3 months for $1 as you get $20 credit when you sign up with a referral.

Just click on the random referral link in the OP and then the Amaysim website will open at the Refer a Friend page. Click on the Buy Now link and then select the 1 GB $1 service. After you sign up and then activate your service, you and the referrer will receive $20 credit in your account. This $20 credit can be used to extend the 1 GB service for another 2 months as the ongoing cost of the 1GB service is $10.

@F1ngolf: I can't remember how it you redeem the Groupon deals. Do they just have a voucher code that you enter at checkout? If that's all then yes I would assume it should work but I haven't tried it. It's worth a shot.

@F1ngolf: It should recognise it. You should be able to tell when you enter the voucher code if it the cost changes to $0. (You can test this out now without even going through with the purchase.) Then when you login to your account it will tell you what plan you are on and if done correctly it should say you have an 8 x 28 day promotion deal.
If for some reason it doesn't go through correctly then you can contact live support and they will help you fix it up. I have successfully redeemed a Groupon deal via live chat with a sim starter kit I had bought as I did not want to wait for it to be delivered to me.
@Rodo: Thanks, mate. I've already tested it with the voucher code and it seems to work. But still have to wait to see if the 8 x 28 days promo shows up after my activation.
