MacBook Pro 15" 2019 with Touchbar 9th Gen 8-Core I9, 512GB $3645.03 + Delivery @ Megabuy (Pricebeat $3462.90 @ Officeworks)

211

Missed out on the 10% off JB-Hifi yesterday and the Good Guys don't seem to stock the 2019 models so no good there.
I went on my very own hunting expedition.

Found out MegaBuy Technology Superstore are authorised Apple resellers selling the following products that appear to be in stock.

I went ahead and tried out the Officeworks pricebeat, called them up. Took 15minutes but grab an additional 5% off and I officially got my confirmation order receipt here

Great for tax time and good if you are going overseas like myself to claim that additional TRS

Also found some iPad Pro that MegaBuy has in stock for pricebeat.

*Apple 12.9-inch iPad Pro Wi-Fi 512GB - Silver - $1,890.15 - with Officeworks Pricebeat $1,795.64

*Apple 11-inch iPad Pro Wi-Fi 512GB - Silver - $1,628.07 with OW Pricebeat $1,546.67

There are other stuff there too but I'll let you guys hunt as well. Let me know so I can update post if I made a mistake

  • Is the i9 variant even worth spending the extra moolah for? Considering how badly it throttles…

    • Probably not but I gotta spend my moolah.. ha.
Its definitely better upgrade then my 13" pro

      • Oh, absolutely. If you're in the Apple ecosystem, you have no choice if you're looking for a portable powerhouse.

You replied just when I was adding the video showing that they did patch it and the performance has improved.

        • Dave2D's video you linked was about the older 2018 model. While the performance did improve after the patch, it just reduced the problem rather than eliminating it. The Macbook Pro lineup is still heavily limited by a cooling system that simply isn't up to the task of cooling high-powered processors.

Dave2D has also done a video about the 2019 model, and he's recommended against buying it for that reason (and the dodgy keyboard).

Depends on your intended workload. The i9 will out-perform the i7 in short bursts, assuming you give it time to cool down in between. But under heavy repeated or sustained loads, they'll both hit the same thermal limitations and give very similar performance.

If your intended use requires heavy workloads for longer than about 5 minutes, you're better off saving your money and getting the i7 model. Or if you want genuine portable computing power, buy a thicker laptop with proper cooling.

  • Thanks OP!

it baffles me that i purchased a 75" Samsung TV and an i7/512GB SSD/16GB RAM Laptop for $150 less than the i7 macbook….

Specs are cheap to sell. Quality is not.

    • +5

You do realise that you are talking to people that are prepared to pay $1500 for a display stand?

      • cmon paintoad said… Quality is not cheap… apparently it's exorbitant lol… @mortgage its apple products dude :) you pay a premium an its a hefty premium .. it is what it is.. iPad's being cleared out is about as far as i can go with apple stuff …

Imagine all the cars you could buy instead of a new Mercedes? Do you get baffled a lot?

    • Surfacebook2 models with i7 processors can be as high as $4800

They didn't become the 1st trillion dollar company by offering value for money.
Full disclosure; I still use my 2013 MBP and after disabled a whole bunch of launch demons and agents it's pretty snappy on Mojave… still gets hot enough to cook my nuts while watching youtube though.
I wouldn't buy another MBP, or anything else from Apple now.

This company has a terrible reputation for misleading advertising and some of the worst customer service around.

For anyone who doesn't know about megabuy yet, checkout feedback from their customers before you consider placing an order. A couple of links to get you started.

ProductReview feedback (Sudden rush of 5 star reviews recently and some are sceptical of the authenticity. Make of that what you will)

Wow. I think you miss the point.
      Go to Officeworks and pricebeat.
      Don't buy from MegaBuy dude.

      • Didn't miss the point champ. Pricebeat isn't a deal.

correct Whirlpool like for my previous comment

          Sure if you say so.
So long as this deal is offered by MegaBuy, then Officeworks will be forced to pricebeat and honour it.
Plus I get free delivery and the Macbook is coming tomorrow.

    • I've used Megabuy heaps for work stuff. Some of the stuff I buy is obscure barcode scanners etc too.

While I would't say they're perfect, and certainly not my first preference, they aren't nearly as bad as whingepool makes out, especially in the last couple of years where they seem to have picked up their game a bit. We have had long delivery times on occasion, but have never been ripped off.

They're cheap.. below average service is par for the course in this area (see MSY, Umart etc).

  • Missed out on the 10% off JB-Hifi yesterday

don't jbhifi price match as well? so get them to price match officeworks when they eventually match megabuy permanently by beating them $0.05

i have jbhifi gift cards is why i ask (and others might too).

    • I think they don't won't do that. To get the officeworks pricematch you need to pay on spot

      • +2

I think he means wait until OW update their regular price to beat Megabuy's, then go to JB HiFi and get them to price match OW so you can use JB gift cards… not sure OW will move to price beat Megabuy though, guess it depends how many people start calling up to PB it!

        • this.

they will because for a while they had themselves at permanently 10% off when jbhifi had a sale to stop people getting a further 5% off.

i'd order but i haven't got flights booked in the next 2 months :(

  • Just ordered over the phone - thanks for this!

Note- if they can’t find it tell them to search for the Apple product code.

  • Thanks for this! I might get one tomorrow

Went to Officeworks at Highett and bought their last 13" one, funnily when I rang up to do a pricebeat they didn't have any, later on in store I casually asked for one and they had stock. Waited till they brought it out and then asked them to pricebeat.

They didn't appear happy about it but hey it's their advertised policy plastered across their front sliding doors. Can't see them getting out of this one.

  • Apple MacBook Pro 15" 256GB- $3,111.76 - with Officeworks Pricebeat $2,596.12

    This is a mistake right? 2956 not 2596 :-P

Also, I believe Apple do a price-matching of up to 10%. Perhaps give a call and see what they offer.

    • Yep - just edited the post. Was a typo. Thanks for the pick up

    • Also, I believe Apple do a price-matching of up to 10%. Perhaps give a call and see what they offer.

I called them up. They only offered 10% off their own price. So 3499 -> 3150.

      • That’s awesome! I might return and do the same!

        • But why? You are getting a better deal from Officeworks. Do you want the extra services Apple offer or?

          • +1

@bamtan: oh my bad. I misread, I thought you said they gave you an additional 10% off.
So buying from Officeworks is actually better.

  • Officeworks pb for mega buy is a cracker! Thanks OP

    • Glad this is still working. I am definitely going to reuse this method to purchase apple products in future.

  • I called them up yesterday. All MacBook Pro 15" 2019 with Touchbar are sold out and they cannot do pb

    • Only works if stock is available. Maybe check with MegaBuy to see when they replenish stock?

pricebeat still working as of today.
